i wish i could see your house in person, i love has lighting! but when you said "without blasting the mantle to bits," that brought up a question in my head. what would happen if you lit one of those lamps without a mantl? would it explode or what?
@lilmrbassoon What I was referring to is the strength of the gas mantle thatself....the mantles...particularly these museum peice "new old stock" mantles can be literally "blown to bits" if you do not take care with how you light the gas....Once the mantle is "burnt in" you can chill out...although they can be destroyed by trying to light with a match or taper...one firm touch OUCH...New Mantle needed! One learns to be carefull
