@coolbeans143 lm 555 timer oscillator circuit hooked up to a cheap radioshack audio transformer which is then ran through a Cockroft-Walton voltage multiplier for a higher voltage but makes the charging time longer then the trigger (switch) turns on several SCRs hooked in series to allow up to 1200 amps for about 10 ms. but u MUST have a diode to short the back EMF from the coil.

@sergiypro i did that once with the scooter, i wouldn't recommmend it. took 3 years for the radioactive disposal team to clear it up, caused £3.2B damage to the city and wasnt inhabitable for another 12 years. fortunately i was covered.

I've notice that you have build your charging unit from srcatch, did you use a Darlington paire? can you please list the parts used?

i used a lm386 occilator circuit to drive a small radioshack transformer that was then fed into a multiplier cascade..then to the high voltage caps and a scr as a "switch" for the coil...

so how does a coilgun work? the coil makes a magnet and pulls the bullet forward ?

ya the magnet(energized coil of wire) pulls the "bullet" towards it but by the time the "bullet" reaches the coil of wire the magnetic field is gone..so since the bullet already has the kinetic energy from being pulled towards the coil of wire it keeps traveling past the coil of wire and out the barrel....

well the capacitors r really a must because they are what supply the high current pulse through the coil..were talkin hundreds of amps! and the transformer is a little audio one from radioshack...you have to pulse current to the transformer at fairly high hertz then multiply the output with a multiplier cascade. then let that charge the capacitors..if you have the wrong capacitors they can explode! and have a safe way to discharge it into the coil.. it can be VERY dangerous if not handled right.

ya i just got tired of messin with tha spin.. so i went simple.. :] ummm the frequency... i have forgotton.. but i think it was around 20k hz? i havent really used other ones..? you can try as many as you like... high frequency pulses will probably charge the multiplier faster as long as you can put out enough Mah at that freq...

it multiplies the batteries voltage then the high voltage is stored in capacitors. to be later released into the coil to make a strong magnetic field and pull the metal ball out the barrel
