  • Thank you so much for this video. I recently took a job where i have to stand for at least 8 hrs a day and after 2 months it has really taken a toll on my back. I'm only 26 and in great shape but I have been limping around like I'm 96. I tried different shoes and yoga routines with no relief. I found this video about 20 minutes ago and I already feel so much better. Thank you again!! I can't wait to try out some of your other routines.

  • I watched your Yoga for beginners videos and i really liked them. I am a ballet dancer and have suffered back pain for about two years now. I had to quit dance because it was such a strain on my back. However i do not like being unflexible and not dancing so i've been looking for a way to relieve my back pain so that i may dance again. This video really helped and i will continue to use it daily! Thank you so much!

  • I'm so glad I found this video series. Your technique reminds me of my teacher's, Cynthia Hood. She doesn't have class in the summer, since we live in a remote desert area, and so I will watch these to remind me what's good for me and to improve my practice. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful knowledge and your work.

  • Some of these are used by physical therapists in Norway. Had surgery twice for a herniated disc, and on both knees for osteoarthritis, so I've had my share of PT.

  • Thank you for posting this Esther. You do a good job of covering the movements in a detailed enough way given the amount of time per clip I'm getting into yoga to help a herniated disc injury and after spending a lot of time searching for the right dvds and books that end up trying to force the mental side of yoga onto the reader, on whimsy I decided to try youtube. I'm glad that I did. The routines shown here have helped me manage my daily back pain level quite a bit.

  • Its good that you have posted these excercices but the big problem is you imagine every body has a body like you.

    Now, tell these back pain excercise , for a lady with big belly and bad knees. That would be a big help. Because while doing this excercise those two problems pose a big problem. Thanks.

  • Great vid Esther, I do a lot of weight training and my lower back is always giving me trouble. Very stiff and sore. I'm doing this to help. Where in Ireland is your class? I'm in Galway city.

  • this is really great. i do wish that you actually walked us through the exercises at the pace that you recommend to us so that we can follow along. I found myself wanting to just focus on the movements and not have to worry about memorizing the whole routine. For example when you say hold this for 5-6 breaths but then just hold it for 1-2 in the instructions, this means I can't complete the movements while watching.

  • Esther. I like to thank you so much. I found you on youtube 2 days ago and started this yoga. cos i recently had slip disc and walking is painful for me. I do tractions and physio at the hospital yet recovery was slow.After doing this yoga from you just 2 days ago, today is my third day and I am walking with no pain at my ankle. Thanks to you and I will cont doing yoga from your youtube. Thumbs up

  • Hello Esther, thank you for all your wonderful videos. I suffer lower back pain & am working with a weekly yoga class to try to ease this. Please could you advise as to what I should do if I can't straighten my legs with a belt as in your video above.

  • Dear Esther, you are an excellent teacher.As a chiropractor, I strongly recommend yoga exercises for back pain especially the lumbar trilogy. I always explain and demonstrate them to my patients but watching you helped me refine my way of teaching them... Thank you.

  • Very informative, you explain this very well. These exercises are similar to what my chiropractor gave me a pamphlet of... your video makes it much easier than a simple diagram can. And yes, they do help relieve my back pain, and helped strengthen me again. thanks. You accent is nice with the combo of Dutch and just a tiny bit of Irish pronunciation I hear once in a while.

  • :) It really does work, at my age I shouldn't be getting back pains. I'm only 16 :) so when the pain inteferes with my sports I just do this before practice, and the pain just goes away! :) haha great!

  • Is it ok to feel a little pain in the muscles or tendons in response to stretching? It seems to me the only way I get more flexible is to feel a minuscule amount of pain in the affected area.

  • Thanks for posting this sequence. I have a lot of back pain from injuries and surgeries. I have a good home yoga practice but I sometimes get stuck and can't put a sequence together to target a specific issue. This really helped.

  • I have chronic back pain, due to degenerative discs, and this routine has helped relieve a lot of tension in my lower back.

    My major injured area is L5-S1. It helps relieve the stiffness and aches that run down the hip joint and leg.

  • Esther, I really like this sequence, but when I'm finished the middle of my back between my shoulder blades is stiff (like it needs to "pop"). Am I doing something wrong, or is there something I can add to fix this?

  • sounds like you are over doing the instruction to firm shoulder blades into your back - just try to keep your shoulder broad and relaxed

  • Will this work for slipped dics? I have a herniated dics L5S1 and slipped dics in my L4.
