  • The happy Goodman's had one of the best sounds and bands on any stage.

  • Thanks Mark! I got to see the Happy Goodman's in 1975 in Dekalb, Texas and this is how they looked then. I sure loved Vestal and always wished and hoped I'd get to see her again but never got the chance again. I'm so very thankful to Bill and Gloria Gaither for all of the videos they have made so that Ican enjoy watching Vestal and all of the people on the Homecomings I have grown to love! I love to watch you on there, too! Love to hear you sing and act silly! God Bless You! Mark!

  • Too bad the video was out of sync. Still good though!

  • Sardis, Alabama produced the best harmony our ears will ever hear.

  • This is GREAT stuff! I grew up with this and LOVE it!

  • This is from 1974.

  • @80jasey , that's right! that's when the 'clear' see-through drums came out!

  • there is a recording of Howard talking about his father who was a minister, talking about them coming out of the hills and all around. Does anyone know what the name of it is. I would really like to find it for my brother who heard it and loved it now he cannot remember the name of it but would love to have a copy of it just to sit and listen to it. thank you

  • @jnonnieo3 It is called the Goodman family story and was spoken with the song Precious Memories. I hope this helps.

  • What great memories. I remember as a young boy sitting off stage watching them. My dad was the bass singer for the Tall Men Quartet and Plainsmen Quartet, and I grew up watching these gospel treaures perform! Thanks Mark for the memories!

  • Thank you, Mark. I sure do miss them...my grandpa has a record of them from back in the 60's....that's what I grew up listening to. I am 24 now, and I want my children to listen to them too.

  • Thank you Mark! Oh. how I miss them!

  • Best Southern Gospel Music Group EVER!!

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Wonderful song.

Can anny one tel me the name of this song?

Bles youre hart fore finding the answer.

  • I won't turn back now is the name of the song.

  • @sterk3 Too Near Home

  • What a beautiful blessing! Thank you Jesus!

  • I just LOVE the Goodmans!!!

  • Yes so true, we use to stay up all night in Waycross,Ga at the sing my Dad and Mom loved them

  • Lots of memories of when they came to our town. I used to play their albums over and over. They are still truly a blessing even though they have made their journey!

  • The late Rusty Goodman has a long list of soul changin songs he has written and performed. He is one of the greatest songwriters of our generation and beyond. The number of souls in Heaven has increased due to this richly talented singer songwriter !!

  • What I wouldn't give to be able to go back and live in that era...simpler, happier, wholesomer time

  • I can't tell you how many times I had to play this at church!

  • "Had to" or "got to"?

It's a privilege to be able to bless God, and to help others to bless Him.

And ANYTHING Vestal sung is worth playing till the record player breaks.

  • Bro. Mark I am so glad to see you posting some of my favorite groups of my youth. I also enjoy all of you stuff serious as well as serious keep up the good work

  • Vestals voice listening here, and in more recent years....just got better and better with age. Amazing! No one can touch her. I grew up going to the "all night singings" in Jackson, MS at the City Auditorium and would take nothing for my parents passing down that heritage to me. Even my hubby loves it now as much as I do and he never grew up hearing this. God bless.

  • There'll never be another Vestal but I heard a group recently called The Diplomats that has a lady that is a close runner. She has some kind of voice! God still brings some on the scene to carry on, bless HIS NAME!

  • This looks later than '69...more like '71 or '72. Humble opinion.

  • 1972, very good

  • Howard and Vestal are truley missed everyday but, I know they are Ringing The Bells of Heaven. Love all their music they recorded.

  • mark what dvd is this from thanks for posting God bless you

  • Vestal's "bee-hive" hair do didn't make her "stand tall"...it was her most unusual high pitch unmistakable voice that made her stand above all others!

  • If I'm not mistaken, the name of this great old song is, "I'm too near."

  • the name of the song is "I'm too near home"

  • Who knows the name of tjis song?

im a gospel singer from holland and im looking fore the name of this song.

    Norman Herkul.

If got one song on youtube to try out this medium soon more songs.

    Good luck every one!

  • Great music but horrible theology! Love their sound! 1Timothy4 "He is the savior of ALL men especially those who believe."

  • GREAT singing!! FIVE stars; I LOVE the Happy Goodmans!! God rest their souls; they now sing in Heaven's Choir!! And Heaven's a lot sweeter because of it! :)

  • when my grandmother passed away, when they took her hair down, it was longer than she was tall. So I know what Vestal went thru to keep it looking like that, that was a job in it self

  • Thanks for sharing. I've been a Happy Goodman fan since I was a child.

  • It's a wig.

  • haha! No it's not my grandma said her church family used do their hair just as tall as that! She said she met her a couple of times and it was all real! lol!

  • In fact, it was 2 hair pieces stacked....read her book. It's fascinating.

  • You're right..in her book she said it was two hair pieces pinned together...

  • No its not. It's her real hair . . . honest.

  • I love Vestal!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could do my hair like hers, it long enough!!!!

  • The higher the hair, the closer to God...

  • IT'S LONG, BUT STILL WORTH READIN!

Boy, people really did some commenting on her hair...I have fixed that do many times!!! Oh, by the way, I LOVE that song (i'm a BIG Goodman fan, & Naomi Sego) but I could tell you edited on the first verse and it caused the film to be delayed (as if u didn't know) but I enjoyed it anyway! ~ Thanks - Oh!!!, I am called Happy as a nick b/c I can play & peck that pianer JUST like Howard! • Thats not Vestal...thats the Bride of Frankenstein. LOL! Sorry...couldn't help myself...carry on. Great song btw.

  • The higher the hair, the closer to God! Don't forget it! Where's my Aquanet?

  • Loved it! Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to meet them in heaven!

  • Hey Mark, is Vestal wearing her hair the way Mrs. Barth did?

  • Good gravy! Vestal's hair!

  • awesome drum set!

  • Oh wow! How COOL is this?!

  • This was actually 1974, not 1969.

  • Oh, my goodness - did that ever take me back to when I watched the Goodmans on Sunday afternoons after church. Of all the things you could have posted to 'take me back' this was it. (I don't remember Sis. Goodmans' hair standing that tall - smile)...Thank you for sharing.

  • Isn't cool to see how people dressed when you were 10!

  • I loved this and thanks Mark! Now I have the music (Jubilee, Jubilee, your invited to the Gospel Jubilee) going through my head where I first use to watch them a long, long time ago.

  • I love her hair!

  • Oh, my, Vestal can sing up a storm, but can you believe her hair in 1969? She's sportin' quite a stack of it!

Thanks for sharing this, Mark. I love songs like this that weave the parts in and out and never leave a moment without something going on. That's why Stamps & Baxter was one of my favorite song writing teams. They wrote like this.
