  • how he does then ??

  • @johhnybeane they are different, yes, but I haven't ever been much an EVH fan, he is an amazing guitarist, but I will always prefer Dimes playing, just his intense shredding, and you are lucky!!! I wanted to meet him, but he died when I was 9, RIP dime, we will never forget.

  • @Steebastince

Dime was a huge EVH fan.

  • @johnnybeane Did you know Dimebag was buried with EVH's bumblebee guitar, because he wanted to have one of Eddie's guitars, but he died, so Eddie gave the black and yellow guitar (bumblebee)... And Dimebag's coffin was KISS coffin...

  • Van Halen played "Hear About It Later" live tonight in Indy!

  • @GreenBayAllTheWay it is actually called an artificial harmonic, or pinch, you can make a " squeal " with either harmonic, natural or artificial, but I believe that Dime was much better that EVH and he always will be, even though he past away, RIP Dime.

  • @Steebastince

    I met Dime in 1995.

    Very cool dude!

He wasn't better than Eddie, they are different.

    RIP.

  • i hate those guitar geek nails..... ffs

  • @saradis1991

    hater.

  • Thank you man ^^ very helpfull (Y)

  • @lalalaa1232

  • What's up with all the dislikes? nice helpful video!

  • @DannyDoomPink

Guess they couldn't get it down.

  • @johnnybeane lol, probably

  • ITS CALLED A SQUEEL AND DIMEBAG DOES IT 100X BETTER

  • @GeenBayAllTheWay

Im talking Eddie here not Dime. RIP.

  • @GeenBayAllTheWay and even dime admitted that steve vai was better lol

  • @GeenBayAllTheWay if you think dime does it good, joe satriani makes dime look like a tool... and no im not bashing on dime!

  • @GeenBayAllTheWay Fine then, where's your video?

  • @GeenBayAllTheWay Hey tard it's called a pinch harmonic, not a squeel (and squeel is actually spelt, "squeal" . Thanks for your great insight! lol). Dimebag was great, so is Eddie.

  • Bunch of arseholes whining about this and that while the fellow is nice enough to spare some time and post this video on how to this! Man, I'm not into Van Halen nor really dig the style, but, hey, thanks for posting this anyway - it sound quite sweet! Actually, I'm going to pick my guitar up right now and try to do this.

  • @waltersmetak

    Thanks man and have fun!

  • okej every fucker who play

ed over a month guitar can play harmonicks,i played it when i was 15 but thanks

  • @cicimbello

    ahuh

  • Cool. I knew that Ed always did it on one of those frets, but i wasn't sure exactly what fret or string or strings he did it on. I had a feeling it was on either the second or third fret and on the g string though. Thanks for clearing that up.

  • @Scoffman5150

    U got it!

  • Whoa, that's sounds so cool, that would be a good way to wake up your family in the morning

  • @DeejayDMJ

I used to do that when i was a kid. lol!

  • vai chupa uma rola grossa

  • a la pelotita cuantas violas¡¡¡¡

  • Johnny Bean Head.

  • @hoboharry91

That's Johnny Beane Head to you!

  • Really love your instructional's and how you break everything down. Thanks for the insight.

  • @CaribbeanLounger

Thank u & thanks for watching!

  • You know, you sound alot like John C Reilly.....Idk I felt somebody had to say it lol.

  • @Blackdragon52k

I think someone did say that on one of my videos a while back.

Also Michael Anthony told me i looked like Seth Rogen.

  • I dont hear it....

  • @MrThatsYe It..doesn't..

  • i love how the string breaks

  • dime harmonics

  • steve vai did that on the song bad horsie and the past away dimebag darrel did it on semetery gate,s song

  • @poseidon26ful

I should look up dime's version. i met him in 1995 and have a photo with him. very cool dude.

  • @johnnybeane ok;-) but woow that is cool he was a awesome guitar player;-) there is somwhere here on youtube where he shows how he is doing it what you are doing but i forgot the name of the video

  • @johnnybeane i envy you

  • @johnnybeane Your one lucky motherfucker!

  • @johnnybeane Dime didn't actually do the horse harmonics, he do some kind of pull off, divebomb grab the harmonic and go up, just on the G string

  • does the guitar stay in tune after stuff like that?

    Is it the evh wolfgang?

  • ok John C. Reilly, we know its you talking....

  • NEW Van Halen single "Tattoo" out next Tuesday!

  • I guess im the only one who can't do it :/

  • @westbohan

    Keep practicing.

The more gain u use the easier it is to do.

  • @johnnybeane I can do it now, my dad teached me..

  • @johnnybeane

A delay effect with a high gain setting makes harmonics much, much easier.

  • He sounds a little like Cleveland from Family guy.

    XD lmao

    but nice lesson man, cheers.

  • i always just hit the G 3rd fret harmonic and used the whammy...of course that was 25 years ago...

  • @Danyerd

With enough gain u can hit pretty much any harmonic and it will ring out.

  • @Danyerd

With enough gain u can hit pretty much any harmonic and it will ring out.

  • nice guitar collection !!!

  • @robert19962010

    Thank ya!

  • sounds like my LITTLE SISTER when i stole her chocolate bar...

  • @dianejazlyn

    haha

  • @dianejazlyn nooOOOOOoooo XD

  • sounds like my cat when i try to grab its tail....

  • @EVERYTHINGELECTRON1C LOL LOL LMAO

  • If you want a guitar sounding like a horse check Steve Vai's "Bad Horsie"

  • @112358miau

He uses a sample in that song.

  • Keeeewl!

  • Breaking strings in 1:20

  • @MrRiky12

    seems like it huh.

  • someone tell me what guiatr is that one

  • @tade123456789

The guitar im using in the video?

That's a 1992 EVH Ernie Ball Music Man guitar.

After Eddie left Ernie Ball it became the Axis which is still available today.

  • Kinda need a girl friend. This is 1979 crappola. Wanna horse? Buy one! Don't over feed it! ;)

  • Uploaded a video last night showing how Eddie stuck picks to his guitar.

See my channel for link in recent videos.

  • i tought that in 1:20 the string had xploded

  • @raphaeljsn

    Kinda looks like it huh.

That's just leftover string above the nut.

  • @raphaeljsn your brain exploded.

  • CUT YOUR FUCKING NAILS

  • @dxvolt

    My toe nails?

  • @dxvolt. Funny as hell cause I was thinking that exact same thing when I scrolled down to this.

  • @dxvolt And all that extra string hanging from your tuning pegs.

  • @dxvolt You're actually supposed to have long nails on the picking hand

  • @dxvolt

Classical players keep their nails long

  • @NickMedobich Yeah that's what i heard too.

  • @dxvolt I heard that people who normally fingerpick a lot of stuff (especially a lot of acoustic stuff) keep there fingernails long, or at least on certain fingers.

  • @dxvolt he might play classical, therefore long nails are a must

  • is it interesting for anyone ?

  • @michekor

    HUH

  • @michekor

people who play guitar, it's pretty obvious.

  • I lold when your string broke

  • @fuckmygeneration

    When was that?

  • @fuckmygeneration I lold when you thought he broke his string and its actually just a string that he didn't cut after he put it on..

  • Steve Vai pwns that horse noise in "Bad Horsie"

  • @Rushguitarist1

He has an actual horse sample in his song.

  • @johnnybeane Yeah but only once when he was soloing. He does it amazing otherwise. Eddie is also awesome at it

  • @Rushguitarist1 Steve and i had the same manager. I haven't met Steve but grew up on him also.

  • @johnnybeane That would've been really nice to meet him. He seems like he's the coolest guy to hang with

  • @Rushguitarist1 I met Satch a while back at a friends Jason Becker benefit and he was very nice, we have some friends in common so was fun to talk with him. I posted some videos from that.

  • I'm watching this ar 1 AM in the morning being sleepy, and now I'm upset.

  • @gnrcr

    I don't sleep till 3AM.

  • Scary.....How Rich are you kid?[Rack of Gibsons etc behind him] I was the town EVH clone and since 84,as Im a lefty, all Ive EVER used[avatar] is an Ibanez RS[Roadstar one of the first....el cheapo] and hacked a hole in it for a Seymour D. Jeff Beck Humbucker.A Right Handed Floyd Rose-Fine Tuner[cost more than whole guitar!]with a Left H. F.R. Nut[The store was sent a Left H."nut" by mistake-Lucky 4 me!]That Guitar has survived Touring All over AU. and is Still great,if a tad "High Actioned".

  • @rksguit

    I have a 1979 Roadster ibanez strat.

    Great guitars!

  • Most guitar players I know call the "pinch" as you put it, a "Squawk"... just a heads up...

  • @skoteeze

    Never heard that one b4.

  • @johnnybeane

Don't worry - nobody's ever heard that term before. "Pinch harmonic" is the widely used term for achieving the harmonic squeal you're doing in the vid.

  • @gaghalfrunt

I googled that term and don't see anyone calling it that.

If someone waned me to "Squawk" on my guitar i would have no idea what they were talking about.

    LOL!

  • @skoteeze I've been playing guitar for over 30 years and never heard it called a "sqwawk." Must be you young punks nowadays!

  • @ApeLikeCreature

Think it's a "Nu metal" term.

  • @skoteeze Back in the day we used to call it a "Squeal".

  • HURRRRRR IM A HOERS

  • that guitar is?

  • @xhixho93

    Is what?

  • @johnnybeane What kind of guitar is it?

  • @xhixho93

That's a 1992 Eddie Van Halen Ernie Ball Music Man guitar.

    Best VH guitar ever made!

  • Did someone call for a veterinarian? I hear Lumpy's got a frog in his throat and the cat's gone horse and can't even purr?... Is that the story? And the sheep...

has gone BAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhd. and what's with all of those aardvark sounds coming out of yourtube, sounds like a barmitzvah on acid... clean that thing out once in a while!

  • lol i do that but i call it the elephant noise

  • Giddy-up.

  • someone's got bank.

  • great horse sound and guitar collection.

  • @assnut1000

    Thank ya!

  • johnny have a nice weekend from the guy who's gonna sing in vh in 2013? :)~

  • NOW THIS IS A FIRST!! A GUITAR TECHNIQUE DEMO MORPHED INTO A DEBATE ON DIGITAL HYGIENE AND FINGERNAIL CLIPPERS..I THINK WE ALL NEED TO GET A LIFE? NO? OK MAYBE IT'S JUST ME THAT HAS COME TO SUCN AN ESTUTE OBSERVATION OF THE ESOTERIC MEANDERINGS OF AVID YOUTUBE SUBSCRIBERS..AND WAIT!! WHAT ABOUT THE EXCESS HIGH E-STRING THE GUY HAS HANGING FROM HIS GUITAR, NOW THAT SHOULD SURELY HAVE SOME OBSERVATIONAL VALUE HERE DONT YOU THINK NOT TO MENTION THE INVISIBLE PARROT ON THE GUYS SHOULDER NARRATING:)

  • @scottfree6

People bitch about my pants in another video.

Too much time on their hands i guess.

  • that white explorer, with the 6 buttons..it looks like my first guitar from sears in ~1983 but mine had a clear finish, brown wood, w/ all the built in fx..

i have never seen one since.

  • @lunarslash779

    Yeah it's a Cort Effector.

I saw a flying v model years back.

  • stop bitching about his fucking fingernail god damn, his fingernails don't matter, are you watching videos to inspect shit in them or for the actual title that made you click? faggots

  • People is so stupid we are here for EVH horse sound and instead you fuck with FINGERNAILS??? really??

  • @Nugromant

Some people need to get a life.

  • Cut your nasty fingernails

  • @dividemynameintwo

    Go play your guitar.

  • @johnnybeane I play everyday, and still have the time for personal hygiene (ie cutting my fingernails) You probably dont bathe either.

  • @johnnybeane yep..dirty guitar dirty nail...clean guitar dirty nails INEVER STOPS!

  • @Bossness123

    It's only rock n roll.

  • @uniformband

    Um thanks.

  • Stupid "Cartoon Yourself" ad

  • @wldntknow

    I never cartooned myself.

    Seemed kinda weird.

  • @johnnybeane Lol, You got my Like on facebook ☝ Rock on man!

  • @wldntknow

    Thanks man! Rock on!!

  • No matter how many times I try this, i've never been able to play this. And I can play every single other lick. lol.

  • @PJHAIGHT

    patience young padawan.

  • do i need a floyd rose to do the sound?

  • @adamtheboyfromdenmar

    Nope.

    Any tremolo will do.

  • @johnnybeane Its just sound weird cause when im trying to do it, it dosen't sound like the "Elephant" noise

  • @adamtheboyfromdenmar

Are you doing the elephant or horse sound?

  • @johnnybeane Sorry i mean horse sound!

  • @adamtheboyfromdenmar

Keep trying and u will get it down.

  • Thanks for the upload. Great efforts on the tricks. Weird camera angle though. It seems that the more use and practice you get out of the whammy bar the sounds you can get are endless, especially with good pinched harmonics. Some of Rhandy Rhoads songs he did some creative whammy bar work as well. Anyway thanks for sharing!!

  • @LEOJ024

    Thank ya!

  • Nice sound!!

  • @mrhurtcool

    Thank ya!

  • "Steve Vai - Bad Horsie" Sounds way more accurate to a horse sound.

  • @yang1tachi

His "Horse" sound is pretty much the same thing but he pulls the bar up and down.

With the bridge flush like on Eddie's guitars u can only push down.

    Steve's bridges float.

  • @johnnybeane You got a very good arsenal of guitars in the background. Anyone of them got a floating tremolo (like a Floyd Rose)? Why didn't you use one of them (if they have)?

  • @MagMar1994

The guitar im using in the video is a Van Halen Ernie Ball Music man with a Floyd Rose.

It''s not floating though. I don't like floating trems because when i play i rest my hand on the bridge and it would sound like a warped record.

  • The elephant and horse sound like they're dying

  • @N9678Q

Eddie said that in an interview in 1984.

  • theres a tutorial of some guy showing eds elephant technique its a pretty insane trick sounds great and fun to do check it out

  • @motleycrue24

    Is it me?

  • @johnnybeane oh i guess it is didnt notice tell now

  • @motleycrue24

    haha.
