  • I did not know that it was in Norway. maybe I should join :D

  • Man, this reminds me of Tae Kwon Do!

  • Where is the kime? I dont like it... They have no fighting spirit.

  • @TheStifler1992 How can you see focus on a video?

  • Where the hell is the kime in this? I dont like it.

  • There Was One Girl Told Me That She Does Take Martial Arts In Norway Its Called Muay Thai Kickboxing In Norway Her Name Was Bianca Helene Or Camilla Helene Leversen I Don't Know Which One Is Her Real Name Is

  • It's all about the fighter not the style. Shotokan saved me from getting beaten up and easily fought off 4 people. my instructor was amazing and the way it is taught and every move explained is key. i now do some boxing but it doesnt teach you how to strike with the bare hand. punching the way a lot of boxers do without gloves would break fingers hands etc. The only thing karate maybe guilty of is the pace of teaching. its slower than most but the basics are essential.

  • D8 that remind me a pyon nang (kata) of soo bahk do

  • Ask chuck liddell how useless karate is! He is a black belt fagget!

  • @OoRaHDaWg21 Did you call chuck lidell a faggot? You spelled it wrong and no, chuck is not one of those.

  • @Ronin6575 Uhhhh no I didnt call him a fag, I am a chuck liddel fan...I was talkin to the other person that was hatin on karate so I said ask him how useless karate is cause he started off in Karate and he is a blackbelt. So I was defending Karate cause I take Shotokan. I spell fagget that way...my personal choice.

  • You can't compare an MMA guy with a traditional Shotokan guy because there aims and training are so different. A Shotokan guy fighting with MMA rules will have a disadvantage as would an MMA guy fighting with kumite point scoring rules. Chuck'em into a streetfight and who knows really... but Shotokan has got a few dirty tricks up it's sleeves! ;) Then again a lot of these MMA guys seem to have come straight from a bar fight where they gouged someones eye out with a bottle...

  • Nice posing.

  • I think Bunkai is the most usefull thing in shotokan karate

  • Well if you are able to do shotokan I think you have advantages (kickboxing, boxing) because you have defense and attack

  • theres a few thing there missing a good kei and a heavy suit spes for kata to get the snap theres no power in it!!!

  • I agree with YajimaKenji, black belt just means you know the basics- you know the curriculum. Black belt is just the beginning so in my opinion black belt = beginner. It's really from black belt forward you start to understand the bunkai of the kata and you really start learning to fight.

  • @kickerwithkick2 Yes and that is why the silk black belt turns back to white as it ages. Full circle.

  • "Black belt is just the beginning so in my opinion black belt = beginner."

In Budo, you are not even considered a student until you reach black belt.

  • @patio87 really??!! that means the 10 years it took to get to black belt for me means i am still a beginner?! i dont think so. my instructor had no urgency in giving us belts unlike some classes i went to when i was purple belt and the black belt could hardly throw a punch. the more i look into it the more privelaged i feel that my teacher was as amazing as he was. unfortunately i am not able to train with him anymore and finding a good instructor has proven very hard :(

  • gay

  • your dads gay.

  • @ptboyindenver, that is so true. I also noticed that they never end the it with a "snap". I was teached by someone else, but he was a good sensei (although, not trained in karate..)

  • Karate Shotokan Consists from three very seperate and yet connected parts. If Kata is performed, then it must be performed by the traditional way, knowing the meaning of every move, and its right route from the begining to the end, and there is no way for interpretation. Even theese blackbelts need to check again how seperate moves are performed. cus otherwise kata poorly performed, looses the meaning.

  • I think we should allow these students to develop at their own pace and perfect their techniques in their own time. The esthetic value of kata form does not and will not save your life in a life or death confrontation anyway.

  • Drakulezas - Nonsense. Just how does one know the meaning of kata moves until one has performed them thousands of times? No way for interpretation? Then why are katas done differently in every organization? Kata is not just kihon strung together - it is all about interpretation.

There are 3 legs to the karate stool: Kihon = karate theoretical perfection. Kumite = karate vs karate. Kata = karate vs everything else.

  • kata is originaly the fight against shadow, ancient scripture. no place for interpretation there, interpretation and meaning comes in Bunkai the application of kata. Katas done different in organizations depend on the masters that teach the kata, on their knowledge and understanding of it. its debatable.

  • its so shame see black belt .... looks like they buy (bouth my english sux sorry ) the black belt

  • just because you're a bleck belt dosent mean you make 100% perfect and pure techniques, just the opposite, its when your recive your black belt the real training and prefection of your techniques begins.

  • yeah the real training begun on black belt but you need be very good to recive your black belt ... but its ok i dont wann trouble :D

  • Taikum, look. at least post a video of what you are capable of , before bashing others. i checked you out, all i found was video games. take care.

  • @taikum you are seriously stupid, you know.

  • @Drakulezas I can't understand why you judge people without even know their history and achievements! One of them is actually my sensai and he has 5 dan seijinkai. 4 dan-WSI. and severals world cup medals! so know the facts before even judge them!

  • who was that masked master? marry me?

  • well they do the moves right but need more explosion from the punchs and kicks... punch more fast and strong then rest ...shotokan from brasil :D cya

  • Taikum - you are right. Their movements follow good pathways, but they are pushing their technique instead of snapping. There is also no muscle contraction at the ending of technique. Consequently they are lacking in speed and striking power. And they are a bit stiff.

  • I can tell karate came from kung fu

  • nice!

    what's the music title?

  • Ask Lyoto Machida how useless is Shotokan at UFC

  • @robbiart Ask Rashad Evans how useful Shotokan Karate is at UFC.

  • No good!

  • funny finding you here making comments again. get out of Greece and go back home, you Turk.

  • get lost american shithead

  • i like this video, great katas too. you have kept together well.

  • Like Zen, the master's mind is the beginner's mind. And true martial arts is about overcoming oneself and defeating the enemy within. Practice, practice, practice. As Master Dogen said, practice is enlightenment. Life is one big training.

By the way Van Damm began martial arts with Shotokan.

  • I took Shotokan karate when I was young. It is not flamboyant and there are only three belt colors. For the beginner there is rigorous and monotonous training that goes on and on. It really disciplines the mind. After a few thousand punches and katas the mind and body begins to connect. After the beginner is brought through the basics and faces off in non-contact, the techniques effortlessly flow out. At that moment you realize the importance of basic training.

  • i take it to. 3 belts only the hardcore.

  • I dont think they have that much focus in the techniques.

    Yeah it looked weak.

  • I dont like this artform...it looks very unrealistic and basic....

  • The "Hean Go Dan" performance was full of shit - elbows are low, the critical move - the jump was as poor as it can get... I don't know aboud the rest...

  • they dont suit to be black belts.

  • To me also the technique seems a tad weak, the energy inferior to what it should be.

  • Urusai..

  • what is the difference beatwin shotokan karate and kyokushikai karate and allso how come the turnoment is shotaka vs kyokushikai. isnt it 2 diferent styles?

  • shotokan is more like hard n kyokushikai is more like soft i tink, correct me if im wrong ppl.

  • Kiokoshinkai is hard and tough - you could see that in training, tournaments and kata. Shotokan is not SOFT, it has a balance between strong technique and a variaty of kata different moves: from sharp and strong to slow and beautiful - that makes the kata very specific and recognisable from other styles of karate. Strong kumite and remarcable kata - this is Shotokan Karate.

  • "Glavorez" is right, but Shotokan is a non contact sport. Heard a story if a guy that was a Shotokan blackbelt, great sportsman and very good at Karate. One night he was assaulted in a back alley and due to his training with non contact, he threw three hits at the guy but stopped a few centimeters from his face with every punch. luckily he realized it soon enough and hit the guy once in the face. I cant recall what happened after that, but im sure mr. Shotokan got away unharmed.

  • True that shotokan practices non-contact but in our club we also practice combinations with a partner

  • Any karate without contact is like football without the ball,i am shotokan & in all my dojo's its alway's contact and training on hard wooden floor's.

  • Hi great video, this was really impressing! i wonder one thing though, does karate practicioners use the hakama? i see it being used in alot of martial arts, or do you train in your usual dogi?

  • Hi. They use normal dogi or gi`s if you like in training. The judges in kumite competitions often use hakama... Haven`t seen them beeing used any other place. I train shotokan karate by the way: dunno if it`s used by any other karate styles

  • Nice demo, good form, well centered, and you could feel the energy being put in to what you are doing. Kudos

  • no Kime

  • ......

  • Petar Gajdasevic er RÅ!

  • really? the only widowmaker sherdog is coming up with is the 0-1 William "widowmaker" barker.

Since when are martial arts purely judged by their merit in a streetfight?

Ludgidia is right, no martial art is bad, only the practicioner.

  • There is no weak form of Karate, just like there is no weak martial art if you are good at it!

  • Ludgidia you make a very good point, I do TKD (which has roots in S-Karate) It all depends on who is doing the martial art. Ive seen really bad TKD practitioners and really good ones, same with any other martial art. I hate when people put up videos "this martial art vs. that martial art" when the martial arts were created, their founders werent thinking "oh, well im going to make this martial art to defeat this martial art in the future" Most martial arts are a way of life.

  • NO. if your martial art teaches high kicks then you must have the flexibility for it. that style probably stresses more flexibilty speed and agility... doesn't make it wrong or right and it doesn't have to be right or wrong it just is.

  • Hi there, greetings from TExas USA.

Good training, just like I like it.

    Oss

    Keep up the karate.

    Martin

  • no very impressive

  • This really hurts to watch. I'm a second dan student of Master Mikami's and these people really have not been taught true shotokan karate. Look up the JKA or JKAWF. Those are the real organizations.

  • YAY

    shotokan karate FTW XD

  • your han katas are pretty nice, but the block - counterattacks seem somewhat slow. The punch should be immediate, even through the blocking motion

  • i only want to learn shotokan becoz subzero use it to kick other players asses ^^

  • shotokan= sub-zero lol XD

  • When i think of shotokan karate i think of Ryu and Ken in Street Fighter and from the demonstration it looks very effective

  • lol...wats funny is i started shotokan becuz my hero/inspiration was/is ken from street fighters XD i learned sum crazy things from going to seminars from a 10th degree blak belt...

look it up :hidake nishyama or sumthing close to tht:D

  • thats just great ... =) But funny =D

  • oh" can u do a fireball yet lmao

  • almost the same story with me but it was because of sub zero in mkd

  • wooow gærn jooo karate beste for 4 ever!

  • damn this sucks i dont know any good martial arts places near me and i live in Bayonne NJ.

i do taekwondo and really good at it people say but i wanna learn some real martial arts techniques. all we do is just basic kicks and punches.. you should see our forms they kinda are simple until you get to black belt. but i just wanted to find any good martial arts schools in Bayonne NJ.

  • He`s talking about the blonde you know... By the way, the sensei is the tall guy with the allmost white belt.

  • No it wasnt, no you werent, no she isnt.

  • Yes I am talking to you! Relly, what kind of loser do you have to be to bother lying about knowing some random people in a youtube video? This isnt DC, its not a seminar for a bunch of "sensais" and she isnt your "sensai"!

  • Some people are just plain rude. Hehe and it's not like it's impossible that you know someone on youtube i do.

  • omfg u are a snewdy lil fuking piece of dik wad.....when i see my sensai again i will get u a mutha fuking picture of her...god damnit and of course u can kno someone on utube....THEYRE REAL FKIN PEOPLE DIPSHIT....come to newyork i wana kik ur ass so hard right fkin now...take out all my damned troubles on u...fkin dikshit

  • Sure I'll meet you when I come by New York, what dojo do you train at? Same one she teaches out of I guess? Say, why don't you just post a link to your dojos webpage, that way, I'll know where to meet you, and we`ll all be able to see that you actually know these people.

And by the way, learn to spell.

  • ur fkin retarded and im guna fkin kill u come on riverhead newyork ill c u when u actually come bitch

  • hehehehe.....

You got a point ther Hotora86. but..... BJJ BJJ BJJ

BJJ BJJ BJJ BJJ BJJ BJJ

    BJJ BJJ BJJ

  • ...but you're too ignorant to even stop and think about it for a moment. Yeah, keep spamming YT with your crap until you get kicked in the head one day and spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair.

  • hotora is right...face it if u cant take out ur oponent in one move..u suk an u will go down..or get kiked in the head:D hahahaha

  • Search on karate vs BJJ

  • Nice cinematography. Good editing. Well executed forms.

  • Yeah, BJJ is totally T3H PWNAG3!!!1!!11one

I recently submitted 6 dudes, one by one!!! It was kinda painful with the other 5 kicking me in the head while I choked and locked the one I could hold but they all tapped in the end!

Oh, and the one who carved "BJJ fag" on my back while I was rolling really pissed me off! I think I'll do a triple flying salto armbar on him next time! He's bound to TAP!

    (feel the sarcasm yet?)

  • now see? if u knew shotokan u wuldnt b getting kicked in the head cuz u wulda been able to take each one out with jus one move each:P

    :D

  • Search on it

  • kyukushin is much more effective

  • No it's not. It always depends on the practitioner. Mas Oyama did Shotokan before he created his own style BTW.

  • I think shotokan rocks, just like martial arts as a whole. Shotokan is great because it doesn't get too fancy, so it can actually be used.

  • That's a nice observation. Good way to put it.

  • Just so I am not miss understood, yes I am very passionate about Shotokan Karate. But I also believe that we can learn from other styles(from each other).

But to say that Shotokan is robotic and out of dated, especially in the area of self-defense, is just being narrow minded, stupid and immature.

I am not arrogant enough to say that I know all or my style knows all, because the truth is we don't! We never stop learning, and if you do, then that is a shame. : )

  • I think, all the different styles aside, Karate as a whole is an effective martial art for self defence at its most basic level. I for one have practiced Shotokan for many years and it has improved my life in many ways.

  • Shotokan's crisp technique and kyokushin's brute strength would make excellent self defence.

  • word the fux up. your stance is very strong

  • Well you upset? This is strange, you can say what you like about Shotokan Karate and how impractical and old and robotic and shit (to quote you)you think it is. Based upon what experience? But when someone else makes a comment to your comments (and yes a little twisted)you get revert to comments such as ones with in this post. I am glad you no longer do Shotokan Karate.

  • You have no idea what you are talking about, my money is on a well trained Shotkan fighter than a so called street fighter, Hhhm this makes me laugh! Just what is a street fighter, Ha ha ha, Hhhm well I guess he fights out in the street Hahahahaha, this is very funny just! Keep up the funny comments ths keeps for intereting reading, not informative reading on your behalf but for us, very funny :)

  • dude u r retarded, i didnt say i was a street fighter or that i can beat up shotokan heads, iw as just saying for self defense purposes, kyushindo is better.. why are you all retarded on this board?

  • Krav Maga Owns!

  • man i take this exact same type of karate so like the whole movie im goin like i know that move i know that move i know that move

  • yeah u do shotokan karate....the most commonly used type of karate, and the most impractical and old and robotic and shit..u shud kyushindo karate, it is so much better in every possible way, designed for actual street fighting rather than poncy competitions

  • yeah he does Shotokan karate... the most commonly used type of karate, and the most practical and pure and fast and cool... he shouldn't do kyushindo karate, it is so much worse in every possible way, designed for collecting naive people's money rather than real fighting

  • LOL i dont think you even know shit, because shotokan karate is a worldwide competition sport that rakes in millions, wheras kyushindo is a very obscure fighting system, wherby i spend £3 50 for a lesson to be tought by someone who makes a loss on every lesson due to rent costs, but does it purely so people like me can defend myself in fight situations

fucking dipshit learn ur facts before u go off on one pfft

  • LOL I don't think you even know anything, because Shotokan karate was designed for self-defence and is effective, whereas kyushindo is a made-up system, where you spend £3.50 for a lesson to be taught by someone who makes a loss on every lesson due to rent costs, but does it purely because he is too dumb to make any money anyway.

    INSULTS INSULTS INSULTS pfft

  • you dont even know what kyushindo is, in fact the reason he doesn't make a profit is because it is not his full time profession, although he is a 6th dan and has been training since he was 8.

wait, do you really not know what kyushindo is?

  • Dude, you're a laugh. You come to a Shotokan video, write negative comments about it, tell us it's "impractical" and "shit" and then conclude that WE are "retarded". I know what kyushindo is - it's a small hybrid system taught only in England by people who claim it's the best style ever. If you hate Shotokan so much, just stop commenting here because you're getting on people's nerves.

  • asao&)(SAD*ASD_(W_£{ASKDAS@DLK}{WA)RE+_£Q"(R+_AWEOAS@PDOASD{}ASPD+Q")+QW_)ERQWEQWEWQ+E)QWE(QWE

    poo head

  • I've been practicing shotokan for many years now, yet I don't understand why do you call it pure or 'most practical'. Your lack of respect for kyokushin just proves you've never fought against them. Using insults and demonstrating your lack of knowledge of karate doesn't make a good example of what shotokan stands for.

  • Read ALL of the comments, skytale83, because you really got it wrong here.

    1. Nobody said a word about Kyokushin.

    2. broseph127 started the quarrel by offending Shotokan so I *mocked* him with *his own* slightly changed words.

    3. broseph127's style is Kyushindo - look it up on YT.

    4. Look at his last response - he just smacked his head on the keyboard. :P

  • skytale83, przeczytaj WSZYSTKIE komentarze to zrozumiesz o co poszło.

    1. Nikt tu nie mówił nic o Kyokushin.

    2. broseph127 jechał na Shotokan, więc zacząłem go *przedrzeźniać* używając *jego wypowiedzi*.

    3. Jego ukochany styl to Kyushindo - poszukaj go na YT.

    4. Popatrz na jego ostatnią wypowiedź - po prostu walnął głową w klawiaturę i napisał "kupogłowy".

  • I'm sorry I misunderstood. I though you're just referring to kyokushin in general as it was divided into many organizations with slightly different names like kyokushin kai, shin kyokushin etc.

  • Well it is interesting to note, that Mas Oyama sensei started his training in Shotokan and applies a lot of the principles of Shotokan in his style, well he is no longer on earth but his organisation continues.

  • Hva er hovedforskjellen på shotokan og Kyokushin karate ?

What is the main different of shotokan and kyokushin karate ?

  • falta o kime !!!!!!!!!!

  • We can all learn from each other.Look at Kasuya Sensei and Kagawa sensei, training for 35 to 40 years! They incorporate ground work, spinning techniques, joint manipulation, kicking, punching and much more. We should be open to ideas. When you actually get to train with these types of people you soon realize that its much more than just techniques alone! more than heart, more than experience, more than having timing and speed and its much more than having confidence.

  • the chick is hot!

  • Falta Kime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • I do a lot of research on shaolin and wudang forms of kung fu, and many of those people like to think that Karate is incomplete and inferior to forms like Wing Chun and Shaolinquan. But, I have to say, all of these men and women look like formidable opponents in battle. Karate, by the looks of this video, is definitely not inferior, and can definitely put up a good fight. I am impressed.

  • good video. nice technique.

  • shutup! created your own arts,my ass. you're goofy.

  • Nice.. Warm regards :)

  • The crisp and sharp movements of the great Shotokan (JKA) are just beautiful.

  • The ISKF broke away from the JKA due to political reasons. Which is good because the JKA is racist against westerners.

  • As did Dalke and the AJKA, and for the exact reasons you describe.

  • what do you mean when you say the jka is racist against westerners? how is that manifested?

  • Promotions, power, money, all politics. Books have been written about it. Some of us have either experienced it directly, or were students of instructors who went through it. Hopefully the ISKF break (also about politics power and money, but this between Japenese rather than Japanese and Westerners) will result in more equal treatment.

  • i used to train under mr. okazaki also and recently heard of the break from jka but never knew what the reasons were.

  • I know shotokan champions that can kick muay thai fighters asses, so STFU...and I pratice muay thai, BTW.

  • With this technique so I could be black belt... I am going to ask me to move from yellow to black in December, in my review ... XD As I am pleased to have been able to return to my beloved shotokan ^///^ I love SKIF ...thanks sensei

Nielsen, Thank you for teaching me how

  • You guys are good! I miss quitting Shotokan karate now... I only did it for two years...

  • I prefer kyokushin myself, but shotokan is good too.

  • Well, kumite in Kyokushin will end up just like a street brawl. It will eventually resort to brute strength, or if you are lucky you may kick your opponent with a mawashi geri...! Otherwise, no specific karate techniques whatsoever.

  • Any full-contact kumite will end up messy-looking, it's not choreographed after all. That's not to say that the fighters consequently are messy. A good mawashi geri, a good tsuki, they require technique to have maximum effect. Technique makes a huge difference in a fight. It may look like a brawl, but it is no brawl.

  • TUTTIGIU

    YOU ARE A FOOL!

  • well said

  • Jeg har vært på treningsleir i tønsberg med disse folka.

  • Hmmm considering proponants of Shotokan have done extremely well in IKA competitions including but not limited to the Oceanic's and World Champs I would say its not bad at all. No individual martial art is the best, its the person performing it that determines how effective it is. As for respect check out Braedyn Birss- a Shotokan 5th Dan, he teaches and instructs people including Ray Sefu (former Kickboxing world champ) as well as helps TKD students with their form.

  • my last response was for "Gooferdust" btw

  • you seem to lack respect and knowledge; not everybody is studying martial arts to kick peoples' asses. think about that before you type nonsense

  • don't you realise those weak blocs and counters are stopose to not hurt the 1ns attacking, if you attack he blocks you don't see that he's hand is already in a weak spot of your's, you would not be that confident if you would be in a real match with one of them black belts. but i don't train shotokan i train taekwon-do and trained bujinkan ninjutsu. no offense i am just saying that you better not be so confident about beating everyone.

  • doubt that

  • every style is different. i believe shotokan karate has good strikes. not good combinations. but in essence if you study it most of their strikes are meant for single ko blows

  • Not bad. Glad to see there is some descent karate left in EU and Scandinavia

  • Er..I meant "decent". Sorry my bad.
