Berl Kutchinsky (a Danish professor of criminology) studied the matter extensively and found that rates of sexual violence had not increased either for Denmark, Sweden or West Germany. Even the USA where rates had risen, the increase was very closely correlated to non-sexual crime and thus could not be explained by pornography.

Dr. Kutchinsky actually said in his paper that he has found that there were unofficial changes in how police handled sex crime that remained, which also reduced their 'reported' incidence, futher distorting the problem or illusion decreased sex crimes.

It's easy to dismiss alternative views as being in "denial" but that only reflects your own prejudice and opposition to pornography. @TangoAlphaDelta When mention Milton Diamond that is in the fringe minority saying that porn is harmful. There is research by Dr. Victor Cline, Robert Peters, Jennifer Schneider, Leslie Cross, Dr. James Dobson & others that shows that porn is harm, that it promotes violence against women, especially the violent porn, it also create hostility toward women among other things. The evidence isn't on your side.

@bigmike5989 I was unaware that science was a popularity contest. The psychologists you cite like to embrace the idea of "sex addiction" which is a load of populist nonsense. There are a small minority of people with actual disorders (eg. paedophiles) but this does not represent the public at large and viewing pornographic images does not make a person a sexual deviant. Fact remains epidemiological studies of nations which have liberalized their laws have not seen an increase in sexual crime.

You're wrong when you say that countries who haven't seen an increase in sex crimes when they have liberalized their laws. Serious sex crimes such as rape has goes up in Denmark since they have legalize porn.

Just because Robert Peters is a christian don't mean that his conclusions are wrong because researchers who are Christians, non-Christians, conservatives, & liberals have also come to same conclusions that he did that porn is harmful.

@bigmike5989 You are also wrong that sexual crime has gone up in Denmark in response to porn liberalization. Berl Kutchinsky (a Danish professor of criminology) studied the matter extensively and found that rates of sexual violence had not increased either for Denmark, Sweden or West Germany. Even the USA where rates had risen, the increase was very closely correlated to non-sexual crime and thus could not be explained by pornography.

@TangoAlphaDelta What I posted about Denmark is true because it was J.H. Court who researched it in a paper called 'Pornography & Sex Crimes' in the Journal of Criminology & Penology. Dr. Kutchinsky actually said in his paper that he has found that there were unofficial changes in how police handled sex crime that remained, which also reduced their 'reported' incidence, futher distorting the problem or illusion decreased sex crimes.

@bigmike5989 You are misrepresenting what Kutchinsky actually said which was that "The aggregate data on rape and other violent or sexual offences from four countries where pornography, including aggressive varieties, has become widely and easily available during the period we have dealt with would seem to exclude, beyond any reasonable doubt, that this availability has had any detrimental effects in the form of increased sexual violence."

@bigmike5989 Furthermore, Kutchinsky analyzed different types of sexual assault comparing rates of group rape with other forms of sexual assault such as sexual coercion. Group rape is obviously the most likely type of sexual assault to be reported and thus the decrease in the incidence of group rape more likely represents an actual decrease whereas the increase in sexual coercion more likely represents increased awareness, reporting and changes in how authorities view sexual assault.

Their bias has driven them to be more accurate in their research & they based their research on the evidence that's available when they say that porn is harmful.

I will agree with you that we all have a bias, that is a fair point. We will have to agree to disagree on everything else but I thank you for the intelligent, and above all, civil discussion.

@bigmike5989 Lastly, the J.H Court study you cite is from 1977 which is extremely outdated. Moreover, people like J.H. Court are known for viewing pornography as a problem regardless of whether or not it results in an increase in sex crimes. The bias clearly lies with the feminist, religious and moralist lobby who have a vested interest in their "research". People like Kutchinsky and Diamond on the other hand do not appear to have any vested interest and their research speaks for itself.
