Yes this was based on tests to see how squirrels overcame obstacles for reward. Animal intelligence and stuff. The squirrel took weeks to crack it but did it. It was so popular they turned it into an advert. They also did a bird brain of Britain program that had more insane tests - the birds took a whole year but cracked it!
i watched a program showing crows in japan dropping nuts from air onto a zebra crossing,watching cars drive over them and crack em then wait for people to press button to stop traffic then gets the nuts,AMAZING!
no way the best part about the 80s early 90s was that the tv ADS dam thoes where the days even tho i was a little nipper in the 80s when i went round me arnts house to watch VCR and had to watch all the ads as well it brings back good old days :P grate upload keep them up
Anyone remember the parody of this advert, where when the squirrel reaches the nuts some guy comes out the back door with a shotgun and blows the squirrel away?
I actually remember seeing a behind-the-scenes about how the ad was made. The squirrel took several days to learn the course. T'was very interesting. Nowadays they'd just use a CGI squirrel instead.
Does anyone remember the carling black label advert from around 1986. It started off as a normal advert with cowboys chasing a guy or something. then the advert ended & was assumed over & another advert in a supermarket or something started supposedly advertising soap powder. all of a sudden the cowboys would burst onto the set. then there was a third in a nightclub or something. basically cowboys chasing through 3 adverts. if anyones got this pls pls put it on - greatest advert ever.
I Remember the cowboy advert mentioned below - the supermarket started off with washing poweder, and I think the last ad was a romance compliation album. Have looked and can't find it anywhere :-( Somebody please put it on!

@webbhead92 Actually it 's a grey one. It just looks red. You can tell by the shape. And you only get red squirrels in Scotland.

@webbhead92 nope sorry, that was an evil american grey squirrel, trust me i know, i have shot and trapped at least 400 of those tree rats

@webbhead92
No, sorry, this was definitely a grey. The reds are quite different. Very red / brown fur and have ear tufts.

The course was set up in a documentary to test a squirrel's ability to learn the course. They just used it later for the advert.
