  • Can you do another fire service on this elevator? If you do, can you put it into fire service, take it up to another floor and turn the key to have it recall when you're inside it?

  • @msj191961 I will try to on my next round but it may be a while before I can.

  • Is this elevator a traction or HIGHdraulic?

  • @msj191961 This is a traction.

  • Would fire service call the fire dept/ set off the fire alarm system if I did that?

  • @msj191961 Ours do not. I dont think they would anywhere. It is strictly for if the fire dept arrived and wanted control. I would not think that it would set off any building alarm.

  • @neaelevator My dad is an enginner and says in his building, if someone puts the elevator into fire service, it puts a trouble on the fire alarm panel therefore calling the fire department. He said it is different in every building. Do you know where I can get an original Dover H2389 fire key? I can't find one anywhere.

  • @msj191961 What your dad said would make sense. In some cases, when the fire alarm goes off the elevators will return to the nearest floor or the lobby automatically. In that case they would be tied in to the fire panel. Ours are not though. As far as the key, I have seen them on Ebay a time or two. Other than that I would not have a clue. Mine came with my job.

  • The H2389 key also works in the emergency power switch in Dover/TK elevators.

  • Why do you have to turn it to “Bypass” then “Off?”

  • @ZombyZac Not sure. Most all fire services with most all companies requre this. Not sure why.

  • @ZombyZac Bypass basically means reset. Bypass can be used to override a smoke detector fire condition and make the elevator return to normal service. The bypass switch makes all fire conditions on the elevator reset, either from the Phase I switch or from a smoke detector.

  • @theansulman And I don't believe the key is removable in this position either.

  • Do you have a key that will work in the floor lockout switches?

  • @elevatorgeek1234 I wish I had all keys available but I only have the one fire service key.

  • @neaelevator That is the H2389 Dover key.

  • @neaelevator You can find them often on ebay for real cheap. I have every key used for a Dover elevator & multiple copies of each.

  • @aa9g1 Yep that is how I got mine for our Innovation fixtures.

  • DOVER BUZZ!

  • How do you have a fire mode key? Are you a fireman or do you work for ThyssenKrupp?

  • I work for maintenance and have to respond to any emergencies with the Police/Fire/EMS

  • That is so cool!

  • i wonder how you would put an old elevator in fire service mode like for instance my dover hydraulic elevator at sears video it doesnt have a door close button just a door open

  • Can you access the restricted floors by stairs?

  • Yes with a key.

  • Why are some of those floors locked, anyway?

  • Floor six has nothing, floor seven is a archive office and it is alarmed. Floor eight is a boardroom.

  • "Floor six has nothing, floor seven is a archive office and it is alarmed. Floor eight is a boardroom. "

Oh well, nothing really amazing then. Thank you anyway for the answer.

  • my mom works for thyssenkrupp she is a mechanic

  • whats the difference between thyssenkrupp and dover?

  • Thyssenkrupp bought Dover Elevators in the late 1990's. Thyssenkrupp continued using the same fixtures from the previous Dovers for several years.

  • I love that little chime at 2:45

  • how did you get the keys?

  • I work with fire and ems so I have one.

  • I've Seen Someone Put an Elevator in Fire Mode With A Car Key!

  • Really funny! LOL!

  • This is neat. I've always wondered exactly how the fire service works.

  • why is 7,8,6,4 have a key lock by them they're locked because?????

  • Floor 4 is not locked it just has a space next to the button for a keyhole. 6 is a empty floor, 7 is a special archives floor and 8 is a meeting room floor.

  • Can you please make a video of you doing the fire service with this elevator to 8, turning the key to off and removing it, then riding the otis elevator from 8 to 1, and then turning off fire service?

  • If the elevator were to not permit access to the locked floors in the fire service mode then people on those floors couldn't be rescued and those people would be incinerated.

  • The arrow is turned off.

  • Does the elevator stop mid-shaft when it is recalled and is traveling away from the first floor or does it stop at the next available floor and then immediately go down to the recall floor without opening the doors?

  • So far, all of these travel to the nearest floor without the doors opening and return to the lobby. I dont know about other companies though. Good question!

  • Dover/TK elevators are the only ones where the fire hat doesn't stay lit after the elevator hits the ground floor and the doors open. On some newer ones, depending on how the light is interfaced with the fire alarm system, it will stay on or even flash, but on this common series of elevators, I think the light should stay on to indicate it's in fire recall mode.

  • If it flashes, it means that smoke or fire has been detected in the mechanical room for the elevator and the elevators are not safe to use.

  • Do you have any other elevators that you can do this on?

  • Just the newer Dovers and all TK elevators.

  • Why Does The Buzzer Turn Off When The Elevator Is Tin Fire Service Mode?

  • That I am unsure of. My guess would be that the buzzer and the floor call bells are wired the same and maybe they would not want others to hear that the elevator is operational as they may try to use it. That is just a pure guess though.

  • The buzzer, the arrow and the bells are turned off to save energy. Also, you can tell the elevator is operating because of the motor. All safety sensors except for the door bumper are also deactivated. Lastly, they want to save as much energy as possible to make as many trips and save as many people as they possibly can.

  • During Phase II (in-car operation), all door reopening devices (including the bumper) become inoperative.

  • The bumper is not active but the door safety edge is active.

  • On the Dovers, even the safety edge is decativated. You had better be out of the way of the door cause it will keep closing if the button is being held.

  • @neaelevator The buzz can be heard outside the shaft and some people might try to use the elevator. That might be it.

  • The elevator can also be recalled to the first floor by activation of a smoke detector in the elevator lobby.

  • What Happens If You Press The Call Cancel Button When The Elevator Is Not In Fire Mode?

  • Nothing. I tried it once in a new KONE elevator, and it beeps, but it did nothing in a Dover elevator that i tried it on.

  • On most elevators, nothing happens. However, on some newer elevators, you can push the floor button again to cancel that floor selection. I have yet to see one myself though.

  • how did you get a phase 2 key?

  • In the elevator key box or in the manager's office. Occasionally at the police and firemen stations.

  • that question was directed to the guy that made the video, i've got a lot of them. haha.

  • Could you please do a retake of this video and go to level 6. I want to see what level 6 looks like.

  • I will try to get that to you this week.

  • Thank you.

  • What is bypass mode?

  • it permits normal operation of the elevator even if a smoke detector is activated and there is a fire in the building.

  • Or when there is fire alarm system test and the elevators must work uninterruptedly.

  • another good thing about fire service is that you don't stop to pick up more people who are waiting for the elevator.

  • Can you show us 7 and 6?

  • 7 is a floor with nothing but offices for the Archive Dept. Floor six is used for storage. Floor 8 has the Presidential Meeting rooms.

  • Can you show us 8, 7, and 6 in fire service mode.

  • Do you have a key that works in the keyed stop/run switch as well? Also when you use the stop/run function in fire service mode does the alarm actually sound or not?

  • No this key does not work in that switch so I really do not know the answer to that. I believe we have a dover elevator that has a physical stop switch and the fire service. I will go and try that as well.

  • Do this. For closing, wait a second after closure or until the motor sounds up. For opening, wait a second after opening.

  • Does the elevator seriously play music when the door opens on 8?

  • That would be nice. Nope it was just my cell phone.

  • The arrow turns off in fire service mode.

  • The reason why locked floors go unlocked is because the firefighter needs access to those floors to rescue those people.

  • What is that warning horn sound when you put the elevator in fire service mode?

  • It's a warning that fire service mode is active. If there was an annunciator, it would say, "Fire service mode is activated. Please exit the elevator when the doors open."

  • Baytrail is correct. Also when the fire service is activated, the buzzer sounds inside the car and the elevator stops wherever it is at and returns to the first floor.
