She might also be wearing a body mic along with using the handheld especially since her voice no longer has the strength and range that she once had.
Never could understand why so many great singers smoked - not to mention what alcohol and drugs do to the voice. You can't even recognize Joni Mitchell's voice anymore - not the sweet soprano anymore - she has smoked since she was very young.
Saw her in concert several times in the early 70s. She and Bette Midler worked harder than anybody I've ever seen doing concerts. Really always gave it their all.
HAHA, THIS IS NOT LIP SYNCH, HAHAHA THE THING IS THAT THIS IS A VIDEO EXTRACTED FROM THE BLU RAY, I GUESS... AND WHEN THEY DO THE EDITION, SOMETIMES THE USE PARTS OF THE VIDEO FROM DIFFERENT DATES TO ACHIEVE HIGH VIDEO QUALITY, SO IT SOMETIMES DOESN'T MATCH TO WHAT YOU ARE HEARING, BECAUSE MAYBE IN SOME PARTS THE AUDIO DOES NOT BELONG TO THE VIDEO. HOPE I WAS CLEAR ENOUGH!!
@ AntinousisGod1. Dude I think lindow is right, this was lip synched. Look at 2:19 through 2:21. There is no way the might picked up the end of the word "everybody" that far away from her mouth.
@AntinousIsGod1 no really she is... watch when she pulls the mic away on "everybody loves a winner" around 2:19 or so in... she pulls the mic away before the note is finished....
@Lindow Its true. I recognised it on some other videos from this concert too... She didnt lip-synched whole songs, but some parts of them...Difficult parts, endings etc. For example, you can see little bit of lip synching in Cabaret which she sang at this concert. But I think, that its allright for her. Shes a legend and concert is simply marvelous! (sorry about my english)
I love this!! And anyone pointing out the fact that some of her vocals on the climax are dubbed over... that's what happens in concert DVDs!! So what if it's from the album version?
I used to be one of this people who said that Minelli was overated, without seeing her in much of anything and just catching a glimpse of her during a performance. Then I saw Liza At The Palace. I just watched it like any other concer without any judgements, and my mind was completely blown. I haven't been that amazed since I first started listening to the live performances of Billie Holliday. This woman is a true-no scratch that-the only true consumate performer alive today! She's the new Judy!
Disagree about the only true consumate performer alive today! You're obviously forgetting the great Dame herself, Shirley Bassey, who, at 74 is still wowing audiences, especially on live performances.
Wow ! I've seen her twice now in concert... Even got to meet her the second time ( *amazing*) But, I've yet to see Liza sing this song.... Maybe next time....
@JoshuaTaylor You met Liza in person? WOW! XD. You are so lucky. I'm so jealous. When I saw her in concert I was sitting right up front, very close to the stage. I could see every move she made. It was amazing. She has this awesome energy that just fills the whole venue she's performing in. There was about 4000 or more people there and her voice touched every one of them. The crowd loved her and she loved us. She was so sweet and kind. I love Liza :)
@JoshuaTaylor You know, I saw Liza in 'Cabaret' before seeing her in concert and loved her but after seeing her perform live I was blow away and became a devoted Liza Minnelli fan who's collecting every concert DVD of hers ever made :P.
Have you seen her French concert 'Aznavour/Minnelli' that she did with Charles Aznavour? It's great! I might put her clips from that on Youtube :)
Maybe her voice has lost lost some of its strength, but her performance alone is worth studying for today's performers who lipsync on stage and think they can get by with just a couple of beats and repetitive non-sensical lyrics. Liza is a performer in the true sense of the word. Fully committed to the lyrics and the moment and giving it her all!
I saw this show seven times. After burying my spouse of 9+ yrs., thi song gave me some sort of bittersweet hope. And Liza does that. Each song is a memory of someone or someplace in time. Truly, a National Treasure. Zei Gezunt Shaineh Punim !!

@Lindow Liza doesn't lip synch... The video isn't perfectly aligned with the audio, but she does all of her vocals live, trust me.

Amazing star! Liza's got the joy and delightful sparkle of Betty White (Rose from the Golden Girls) in this fantastic number. Wonderful! XXX

There are times when you catch a glimpse of her mother's voice. Not an easy song to do sitting down. Here's to one of the last true divas
