  • How will my awd jeep ever make it up that. T_T However if it was pure ice good luck with that.

  • I can't believe US doesn't have a law obliging drivers to use winter tires. They are mandatory in the whole EU.

  • Porsche 911: RWD + rear engine FTW!

  • Well here's a tip for you: clear the car of any snow before getting on with the driving.

  • I wonder what a 'trust fund baby' is ? I have been in the Seattle area 4 years, but as I came from England, I don't understand this pidgin English stuff.

Going up a hill in reverse in Seattle ? Which side of the road would I use ? I guess it would be the left - in which case a Subaru coming up the hill would be front to front with me - that would freak him. If I reverse up the right then someone coming down the hill would encounter my back end coming up.

I bought Blizzaks - prob solved

  • dude just accelerate the car as much as poss and do not leave accelerator when u r on the hill

  • 4WD is worst for a downhill ride...

  • Spend $20 or $30 for snow chains/cables and keep them in the car at all times during the winter months. Works for 4x4 and AWD as well, which, without chains, seldom stop all that much quicker than other vehicles.

Some countries now mandate winter tires, but I'd rather not see that in the USA. Very expensive to purchase, store, and maintain two sets of tires and change them out at least twice each year. Thus, if anything, would much rather see a snow chain requirement.

  • The only tip should be: use proper winter tires.

  • It'd be nice if they cleared the snow off their car and looked behind them while in reverse, not just mirrors

  • If you live in a place like that you should get a 4WD car...

  • america needs tutorial videos while us canadians come preprogrammed.

  • @CedrikTheManiac00 @dingo27mobile @foxzone51 please note video is how to drive up hills in snow, the description 'How to drive up snowy or icy hills during the winter. Technique shown and demonstrated' not everywhere does it snow all the time. your all having a dig at my comment, but your all from countries where it snows alot canada, Slovakia and Finland im from the uk, having a second set of tires for winter would be a waste as we dont get enough snow often enough for the cost to be worth it

  • Thanks for this vid. I've thought about this with a front wheel drive car but what about the reverse gear ratio? Its lower than first gear. So when you've got momentum the engine revs are high and you cant change up so you have a greater chance of slipping. Let me know what you think. RHS

  • Pretty impressing, but you also should get that snow on roof away.

  • Dear #

    wo0dy1

Everyone who lives in scandinavian countries have two sets of tires. One for summer, and another for winter. We do use common sense.

  • It's hard to believe that some people refuse to by snow tires. They hold up traffic as they spin their tires in futility. Insurance companies should really make a note of whether winter tires are being used in case of an accident claim.

  • @rotarydialz

In te UK some insurance companies increase your premium if you fit winter tyres, on the grounds that the car has been modified. Its Crazy!

  • if there is really that much snow all you need is a snowmobile. duh.

  • @jmreichert3 a 4wd car doesn't do shit if you don't have the right tires for it. I have studdered winter tires for my car, and even then it's hard to get around places here (Norway).

If you think you can drive normal with summer tires on snow just because you're a "good" driver you can think again

  • @JuggerMaster Norway huh sweet well the compound of rubber on the tires tread has alot to do with traction on any slippery surfaces like a Bridgestone Bilzzack has the softest rubber compound of any tire on the market and yeah im sure i can drive buddy i live in montana and have a two wheel drive car and have no problem with getting around so watch the smartass remarks.

  • @JuggerMaster its probrably a foreign car (american) 4+4's go threw anything....

  • snow tires might help.

  • Driving in reverse is a tip. But I just avoid going to Seattle all together during snow storms.

  • Well done! It's always astounding how many people who live in areas that get snow DON"T know how to drive in it.

  • one gwd trick is to start of in second and keep the revs low. second gear has less tourqe and your less likely to losse traction and always keep it steady.

  • I just got a 95 Yukon. I can go up ur driveway with 4 feet of snow it forward or reverse. Just saying, but 2wd reverse is kick ass!

  • that comment is fail... the vid is showing how to drive up hills in snow or ice conditions.. not how to look good offroad... how many people in the world have a set of winter tires for their normal day to day car....so no shit they are on summer tiers...

  • of course I didn't mean to be a troll but seattle drivers really aren't equipped for snowy roads thus unless they work at one of the few places that don't close they should really stay off the road.

  • @wo0dy1 everyone with common sense that knows there will be snow change tires. Its normal to have them even from november to april.

  • @wo0dy1 they are mandatory here, so every 1 who as a car as winter tire

  • ......or u can get any car made by Subaru. AWD FTW!

  • @BranfIakes Damn, beat me to it.

  • I drive a little rear wheel drive Toyota Tacoma, and good advice?

  • @runner21ish

    put it in 4x4

if it doesn't have 4x4. why do you even have a truck?

  • ya next time but american

  • 1998 gmc 4wd i have never been even close to getting stuck eben in the worst snow

  • driving in reverse in snow is only good for front wheel drive cars it makes things worse if ur in a rear wheel drive car

  • Comment removed

  • its called shovel and start in second

  • or just buy AWD and don't worry about chains or anything

  • thats what im saying

  • True. If your living in a place like that, hills and snow and all, it's your best option.

  • only fellow audi drivers will make such sense. quattro!

  • get indeed good winter tires:-)

  • for wemen who cant reverse let down your drive wheel tyers a bit, this will give the tyer's more surface area to gain traction. dont let them right down LOL try 1/2 first and never no more than 3/4ers. cars tyers have 45+ psi inflated - tractor tyers 10 psi why? lower psi = more area for traction.

p.s dont forget to put air back in them when you get home!.

  • @alex and scourge: Thanks for the feedback. We showed an inexpensive method rather than buying a new car or tires. If we find more of our viewers are trust fund babies, we'll use a helicopter in the next shoot on how to get out of snow. Again, your input is always valued.

  • dude i cant thank you enough for actually demonstrating inteligence. let me guess your dad or mom was probably a mean drivers ed teacher. PLEASE PLEASE pass these skills on to your future children i know it will be hard but i do beg of you. great video id like to see more of them and anyone leaving comments like get a 4x4 or get snow tires. i just assume know how to drive instead of waisting money on a 4x4 or snow tires.

  • Snow tires are a must when it gets snowy. Your car will drive much safer.

  • but see that can give people over confidence while driving. kind of like traction control and anti lock brakes. they think that because they have a safe car everything will be okay thats y u still see cars with all this safety equipment still smashing into things. i do admit they do help but people think its there savior.

  • You`re definitely right about that. People tend to rely too much on the cars safety equipment. I just wanted to point out that snow tires greatly enhance traction over lets see a normal summer tire on snow.

  • what a stupid video. buy a 4wd

  • @eekabeep: Our buddy is a R&B music producer, so we get royalty free music of that variety. Thanks for the feedback though - we'll try to use natural sound more.

  • I really like your videos but the music drives me crazy.

  • All Miatas are rear-wheel drive, so you already have the max traction going uphill. If you went in reverse, it would actually make things worse :)

  • Can I do this in my Miata?

  • A great demonstration of the proper techniques! Five stars! Thanks for posting.
