It's not a good test, and here's why. The Pentium 4, and the Tualatin Pentium 3 to a degree, has an internal temperature sensor, and will underclock itself if it gets too hot. The Athlons don't. The Athlon XP has a thermal switch that will send a shutdown signal to the board when it gets too hot. So, yeah, an Athlon will burn up if you do something idiotic like pull the heatsink off of it. :p
Theres just no possible way a Pentium 4 at 29 Degrees Celsius is running that cool and its lagging. this video is not true. my Pentium 4 Runs at 51 Degrees Celsius and its doesn't lag.
@scar1343 thats' with a heatsink on it numbnuts. The Pentium 4 had thermal protection. When the temps skyrocketed (which it will do immediately after the heatsink is removed) it goes into protection mode. Meaning it was probably running at like 100MHz and no voltage and shut down a lot of it's features. If it ran most of the crap like normal it would have done just like AMD and gone up in smoke.
@iamvACTIONv then you must have a cold house,.my house is 25'c ambient temp,my phenom ii x4 970 runs at 33idle,pentuim 4 always run 45-50 on idle with stock cooler
Amds are faster on stock speed and cost less. However, when overclocked, intel cpus have the potential to perform much better. That is why the enthusiasts choice are intel.
Pentium 4 is a powerful CPU, still is to this day. May not be used with gaming computers nowadays, but is absolutely, no doubt, the perfect CPU for gaming servers, rendering, etc...
P4 is one of the best (if not the very best) CPU ever released by Intel, or compared to any other CPU manufacturers.
@spyro303 Intel were second best until the Core 2 series came to light, until then AMD ruled the uni core days and the very early Athlon X2 v Pentium D days, also P4's were well known for horrible heat problems compared with the Athlons and Semprons of the day, so yes Intel's fastest consumer chips out do those of AMD (Server side I'm not sure on tbh) but not for over a decade by far.
@spyro303 Not anymore... Price per performance of the chip itself no... the MB on intel's is what kills you. although I picked up my Q6600 a few years ago for like 150.
@hackers09fr Reliability is just about the same now. Intel does have the fastest processors, but for a way higher price than AMD's processors. I have a 1055t from amd and it's great! Pretty low temperatures too.
@CrewRite True. I remember when you had to replace the stock fan for them, nowadays though the you can have the fan off so long as you dont do much heavy cpu stuff
What is name of the song?

@Jerkwad152 so what makes this a bad test? doesn't it illustrate exactly what you just said?
spyro303 4 months ago 3
@spyro303
The test is Tom's Hardware's usual Intel fanboy fare. They just wanted to show roast a couple of Athlons.

I think you need to put your camera's heatsink back on, too.

Back than Intel had already implemented some sort of fail safe to keep people from burning up their shit.
AMD had not yet implemented such features on their CPU's. that is why they didn't stop cooking themselves.

The old AMD chips always did have heat problems but now they are excellent. Even if overclocked with the stock fan you can still get low temps.

amd's chips are more powerfull than intels though : ) multi task ftw

What about using Core i7 like processors now?(joke)
i wanted to swap a core 2 duo with one in my sis pc
i asked my dad(he doesnt live with me i called him)
and he said that if one of the heatsink things that hold it in place the processor will turn into shit :0

Who was the first to introduce 64-bit processors to the consumer market? AMD.
Who was the first to get rid of FSB? AMD.
Who launched a CPU with a high TDP, instruction pipline and clock speed but low IPC called Prescott? Intel.
Who launched a CPU called the Pentium M (based on the P6 microarchitecture) that kicked Prescot's slow ass? Intel.

I agree.

if compared, intel is more reliable and can last longer than amd although amd is faster than intel...that's a conclusion about it!

Pretty sure Intel's fastest chips have been faster than AMD's for over a decade. AMD tends to be less expensive, though.
