im trying to decide between this bike and a 08' HD nightster for my first bike. I know two different worlds but do you plan on going back to sportsters?
@curtmastor - I am back on a harley again, though it's a newer softail custom. There aren't many "bad" bikes out there. Sporties and crotch rockets are very different. Still, there is a reason it's called a Sportster. They are fun and you can ride them pretty aggressively. Either way you'll have a blast. The CBR makes me want to do things that the cops would haul me away for. But then again, so do all motorcycles to some extent! Be safe.
I wouldnt really say the cbr 600 f4i is a beginners bike, put a full exhaust on it, power command, new plugs, new filters get rid of the stock head light and put on a UFO universal head light (drop 13-22 lbs depending on head light switch over) and you got yourself a stunt bike. The thing tops out around 280....thats not a beginners bike. If your starting out go get a ninja 250. Im pickin up an 02 f4 and its my 4th bike
I absolutely loved my F4i, very user friendly yet handles well, great all around bike. Have fun on it, I just personally think you need to get rid of the banana seat and get a split tail from an 01. All you need is the fairing and the seats. Enjoy
Yes they are. 600 f4i has lots of power for fun, so you won't get bored to quick, but handles well and isn't the raped ape that some of the 1 litres are.
@McGradybestfan1 Yes it's an excellent beginner bike. Plenty of power and the handling is very forgiving. In addition the F4's are very comfortable compared to the RR's. I prefer the RR's they have a little More HP and more set up for the track. the F4's are more set up for the street. Still an excellent bike and super.....SUPER reliable probably THE most reliable bike on the road
sliders might be a good move. But take it easy and learn to ride at SLOW speed, I'm talking parking lot stuff as slow as you can go. Anyone can go fast. The bike wants to go fast. If you learn to ride well super slow, you can do anything. Get on. Take off. You'll love it.
I love my F4i!! It's so easy to ride, and boy does it catch peoples eyes!! :-D i have a , Yoshimura Exhaust, 5,000K HID kit, and a Corbin seat installed. 2006 BLUE , and only 1,200K miles
@ebofuria dn't get extended sliders..get reg ones. and make sure they are made oiut of derlin.... the long ones can create to much leverage in a fall and bend the shit out of it
@ebofuria i bought mine last summer you just have to ride,it be relaxt the 1st time you do and then you will laugh at your self i know i did the bike is very balanced and smooth no fear think of it this way if you ride it like a idiot your chances of a crash are more and remember to always to expect that the cars and other drivers around you dont see u keep a safe distance and never get to over confident...
the 600rr is NOT faster than the f4i...they are identical...the f4i has less of a race stance though and easier suspension...maybe he meant it was faster on the track which it would be with the right rider, but really the average rider couldnt tell the difference except the f4i is more comfortable..
f4i was my first bike...and its a awesome bike for sure...i dont know where you live bro, but you gotta get off them highwas and streets and find some twisty roads man, i know you came from a sportster and its going to be hard to break the cruising habit, but the first time you get your knee down is the best "2 wheeled" day of your life
i have an 03 CBR 600 F4i and i have goodies on it, lined it up against an 05 600 RR and ate it up, take off, and long run, id rather have my F4i then an RR...and i agree that this is not a good bike for a 1st time rider, mine will pull 77 mph in 1st gear, and shes got torque, gl paying for your repairs after you dump it
you will do fine on the f4i kid its what i started out on. its not a fast bike at all. once you ride the new gsx-r's, r6s, 600RR whatever.. they are faster 600's but the f4i you will want to move up after a good full season of riding, i moved up to a 2003 r1 and it's amazing
haha im 15 and will be getting this bike in a few months and i got a insurance quote for 56 dollars a month :) :) :) but i have to pay for that by myself cuz my parents wont :( oh well thats better than 100 a month, oh and take a msf course to get a huge discount after i take the course my insurance will be at 40 a month :) :) :) :) :)
You will kill yourself, starting out on a cbr is a very bad idea esp for a hormone pumped kid. You can tell me to fuck off right now but if you survive your first wreck I want you to think about this message when you wake up.
kits kinda hard to start off on a ninja 250r if your 265+ lbs im not goin to tell you to fuck off am i have already signed up for the msf course and taking the ic and ec rider course and i feel responsible enough to ride this bike and i dont have any plans to go on the interstate, all backroads for me :)

anyway good luck. think before you ride crazy and youll live haha!! oh and dont get peer pressured to speed and all that shit... but whatever dood. im not your father. RIDE SAFE!
I just bought my 01 F4i bout two months ago and I love it. Its pretty good in long distance running and I had no trouble learning how to ride it, I think its a great beginer bike but do watch the torque.
good bike but be careful of the torque when your new. maybe go with an f4 instead (models below 2001) because its not fuel injected so a little more forgiving.
Hey man, love the bike!! I was wondering, I'm about 6'3 - 6'4 and I weigh about 240, I love the CBR600 and I really want to get a used one here shortly, probably an '01. Do you think I'm too big for it? Do you think I should go up to a bigger, heavier bike? Thanks man!! any replies would highly appreciated!!
I would hop on one and check it out. I don't think it's a problem. The weight isn't really that much different. For example, this bike doesn't weigh THAT much less than my old harley. And the power available here shouldn't be bogged down by your 240 pounds. Take a test ride on a 600 at a local dealer, then look for a used one if the fit works for you. That's half the fun. I manage to cop a ride on new bikes every now and then at one of several dealers.
Thanks for the quick reply man! Yeah, hopefully it wouldn't be too big of a problem, I'm only 16, and I've heard that dealers won't sell brand spankin' new bikes to 16 year olds because they know that they will wreck! I find that really stupid, but I see why they would do it. Do you think with me being so tall, that the ride would be really uncomfortable? Anyways, thanks for the help bro, take care!
I think you'd like it. My son's 6'1" and he does OK. Probably wouldn't want to go cross country or anything, but getting after it on the local streets should be fine. Take care brother
I'm 6'3" and i ride an one with no problems at all. I weigh 155 and the speed is incredible. Even with a passenger taking the weight to like 300lbs it doesn't make that much difference. Just can't keep that front wheel down :D
Hey thanks for the comment, But every insurance company wants me to pay $10,000 Canadian up front in cash before I can get insurance because I'm 16, and it'll be my first vehicle, so it looks like I'm stickin' to 4 wheels for awhile! But thanks, I'll look into it in a couple of years when insurance goes down, thanks again!
damn, thats a little redic. I got it when i was 16 and my insurance was $100 a month w/ full coverage (my fathers name was on the policy tho which made a bit of a difference, so give that a try) but i think it was like $2,500 if i insured it alone. Guess rules are a bit diff. here. Just got a '97 zx-6e actually and its only $40 a month :)
hey got the same bike of 01.nice bike good choice!here in germany you can use the full power on our highways with no speed limit.but its still fuck*** winter and too cold.
Wow! That would be great. I'm more scared of my insurance company than cops, but both are a bummer here in the states. They spanked me into submission years ago : (
Took me a few months to get the feel of her. Pretty different from the harleys. Wait for spring and I'll post the new version where I'm feeling good about testing her!! Damn Missouri winters!
The Suzuki GSX650F is a really sweet replacement for the Katana. But it's a brand new model so there isn't much out there used, and the Honda F4i will definitely outrun it.
do it!!!!! i own an '06 F4i and i love love love it. very comfortable, good power, and great durability. i would highly recommend it. it's a pleasant step up from the katana too.
