  • You have a vagina on your lips

  • best guitar teacher on youtube .... Period !!!!!!

  • i've got blisters on my fingers!!

  • My left hand technique is from classical guitar playing where keeping your thumb on the back of the fretboard is the proper way of playing. It is hard for me to put my thumb over the fretboard :(

  • @topdog2328 but you don't bend in classical. you can bend with the thumb behind the neck, but it's much harder.

  • Mmm... How can you say pro guitarist do not bend with the pinky? Actually, lots of them do it. The pinky is the weakest finger but the other fingers help just like when you bend with the ring finger. You let me down with that statement.

  • finally a teacher who doesnt play 247 classic rock riffs before beginning the lesson

  • strange when you have to describe how to play guitar step by step. You have to think about it. I've never taught anyone before. It's tough.

  • talkative man

  • This is actually so hard to do properly

  • This is actually so hard to do properly

  • you are the best teacher in the internet.

    your lessons are unbelievable.

  • @TeoDogueri I know right you can pay an instructor and still not get as in depth and clear as justin.

  • so its basically bending a bend?

  • @TheSoadisthebest I was confused with that too. it's bending and then "releasing" the bend down to its original point and then bending it back up a number of times. You want it to be in rhythm as well.

  • fantastic! cleared so many doubts of mine! gr8 job justin!! cheers!

  • Thanks for doing this, this was extremely helpful, especially the way you explained just letting the strings do the work for you.

  • Wow, good to know its not usual to bend with the pinky finger! I was really trying (and making alot of bum notes)... I´ll just work the other fingers now...

Thanks ! Keep up the great vids

  • i clicked on wear do farts come from?.

  • YOU have 4 fingers to play on the frets so practise with all of them if you can do with a the fingers you gain strength with all, and that will make you play better!!

    USE ALL THE FINGERS

  • I didn't know polar bears drank pepsi...wtf Coke u lied to me...!

  • Justin - demonstrate good vibrato firstly instead of trying to use only a relaxing finger technique. It's not actually that simple. It's more to do with twisting the wrist whilst rotating it around the thumb. You can start your way but that way you still move the neck frantically - you must make it stable so the energy goes direct to the string.

Like all things bio-mechanical, if you try too hard you get more tense and therefore overgrip & wobble the neck also.

  • @macman8680 indeed. he does not address the mechanics of bending.

  • Nice lesson.

  • Thanks, you really helped me a lot.

  • i having a bit of trouble with this at that position i cant realy feel the tension on the string during the bend any ideas why?

  • @AsmileyFish Maybe you have light gauge strings so there is less tension, however you should still be capable of performing the technique. By tension he means that the string with your finger there wants to be straight. When you release your finger the string straightens. The technique is performed by allowing the string to straighten out only a little after hitting the bend.

  • One way for people to get the hang of bending up to pitch, is to bend the G string up at the 7th fret, and hit the 5th fret B string, if your in tune it will ring so sweet. as long as you don't bend the B string. this is a great lesson. I learned how to do this quite some time ago, but I am going to favorite it for other people. Justin, and Marty are about the 2 best teachers on you tube. they both teach well and bring a laugh most of the time. with that said, thumbs up for Justin"

  • There is no end to the retarded sexual comments is there

  • shit ads everywhere! :>

  • @ENK1360 And it's not going to get any better with time ;)

  • What can I say - great teacher. I've been playing for quite some time and yet these advices are very helpful, thanks!

  • Justin are you a Kiwi?

  • @MultiStumbler i think he is an ozzie living in england i may be wrong but i am a kiwi :)

  • @MultiStumbler im a new zealander and thats not how we sound buddy.

  • @MultiStumbler I think I read on his bio that he's Tazmanian. :)

  • @SensiRootsBoy Turn the volume up.

  • So, i've been watching your videos and they're pretty helpful, but I can't find one with the technique im looking for. There's this thing, i dont know what it's called though. From what i've seen and heard, it's like a vibrato with distortion and so the note rings out and then sounds like a pinch harmonic. I don't know what it's called, but i was wondering if you have a video that shows how to do it or if you can just tell me how. Thank you! -Antonio L.

  • @freakystyle118 its the lips and the hairline....... ever hear of something called an opinion? Its just like an asshole, everyone has one, and obviously you are one.

  • if you put more hair on him, he'd sound alot and look almost exactly like angus! ........with a tele.......*gasp* haha great lesson!

  • 23 people suck at bend vibrato

  • @spidrmage shut up dude no one is going to give you a thumbs up im tired of this shit

  • @TheElectricSalad agreed

  • you always look like the happiest guy on the planet justin, thanks

  • Nice lesson, but it isn't easy as it looks.

  • thanks for taking ur time to make these videos ur the best guitar teacher on youtube!!!

  • awesome job justin i love your vids! they're actually super helpful

    keep teaching, bro!

  • "Let it come down a bit and PUSH it back up... and from here let it come down back up, come down back up. Just let it kinda go where it wants to go. Don't find the pressure of it. Once you get the feel for it, start doing it a little bit faster and it will be alot easier.." xDD

  • @yoopootoo Wow. Can you be much more childish?

  • @emiliovelezmusic Could you have less of a sense of humour?

  • @Innercynic Coming from someone with the username Innercynic, I find that hilarious, actually. So, see? I know how to have a laugh. :)

  • thanks for this lesson it has really helped .

  • damnit. I can play the blues, shred and hard rock....but i cant fricken vibrato my bends.....

  • @JPMusiclife

    I can't too. It's not that easy

  • @uchicha666 Neither can i ...

  • man i am kinda obsessed with SRV and his index finger vibratos and i am strugling, could u help, give an opinion anyhing :)

  • nice ADA up top man i still use one xD

  • Bloody hell Justin, that Tasmanian devil startles me every bloody time!

  • Hey Justin! I just love playing guitar!

  • i am not sure i want to improve my "bending technique"

  • I find it quite odd how bending/vibrato is usually left as an afterthought and when I watch a seasoned guitarist do it, it seems like the easiest thing in the world - like it really IS an afterthought. Then I try it myself and it's like bending prison bars. Although I'm a drummer by trade - Hit 'em wiv 'ammers, that'll get the job done!

  • Thanks alot. very helpful indeed!! Ur a great teacher.

  • thank you so much!!

  • Great lesson virbrato, man. Thanks. Most people just explain why virbrato is use and demonstrate it but they tell you how to practice and build it up. Thanks again.

  • I have to disagree with you at 6.55. I've seen a lot of guitarists bending with their little finger; I do it myself. If you play blues using all four fingers then I think you should practice bending with the little finger to.

  • @nicedog1

    Hello nicedog

Hes not saying dont bend with your pinky. Hes talking about vibrating after a bend. I'm sure everyone tries to bend with the pinky. its a must when soloing, but performing vibrato with your pinky after a bend is very difficult.

  • @cryptonet007 Thanks for replying. To be honest I find it very difficult doing vibrato at the top of a bend no matter what finger I use. In twenty six years of playing blues I still cant get to grips with it.

  • Nice Video, btw, can i do a Bend and then do a normal vibrato (still bending at tone)???

At least at Stairway to Heaven Solo i can get the same sound, but i don't know if that's a different way or not ...

  • Nice Telecaster, i´ll want to buy one of those.

  • "A little bit sharp... that was naughty."

  • I love that guitar!

  • LOVE your 3-pickup Tele

  • this is so much harder when you always have sweaty hands like me lol

  • Thank you for the idea of relaxing and pushing back up. I was really really struggling with this concept and was frustrated. I just wanted to let you know that moments after watching that part, I begun to get the slow vibrato on my bend on that D :)

  • THANK YOU! I got it on my 8th try, This was an excellent video!

  • sharp 4:41 yep that was a bit naughty of you mate... lol

  • I like this guy....................

  • sweaty fingers, and I can't do it :/ or I'm doing something wrong.. Very light strings - 009

  • hell yeah! thanks a lot. Clapton Is God

  • @fabelas550

but Lenny Breau is above God! ;P

  • lol, i love doing vibratos on songs, it sounds cool.

  • Agh...my bending vibrato sounds like a sying animal lol. Oh well just goota practice :P

  • I DONT WANT A TOYATA CAMRI YOUTUBE!!!

  • good lesson

  • auussieee??

  • eu ñ entendi o q ele falo!

    hsuahsuahsuahsuahsua

  • Can you a leeson on Neck banding and Nut bending ?

  • well there's two types of vibratos. there's the classic style, which involves moving the hand somewhat parallel to the guitar neck (sorta like how a vibrato on a violin works). problem with that is that guitar notes are split into frets, so wiggling your finger between bars probably won't change the note all that significantly. that's why bending vibrato is more popular and its generally the style used in metal. the classic vibrato is more popular in blues where fast trill is more characteristic

  • you see a lot of the pros waving the crap out of there wrist when they vibrato. is that the correct way because that's HARD

  • Another great lesson. These are some of the best on youtube.

    Thanks!

  • im a blues guitarist bin playing for about 3 years. im trying to get the vibrato going w when i bend with the first finger it slips out

  • WWOOOOOO I have an iMac as well... pure sex.

  • that animal in the end is funny

  • If you use headphones and listen carfully, you can hear that even in Justins Technique is a SMALL amount of noise coming from the strings he has to touch inevitably. Keep in mind, that the technique is presented completely isolated, in an normal song you don`t hear things like that.

  • Imagine what his neighbors were thinking "Relax...And push it back up..."

  • @cousinjackT hahahahahahahahahaha

  • @cousinjackT looooooooooooooooooooooool

  • @cousinjackT Hahaha, eww what would vibrato be then? xDD

  • @tjompiskompis ...Very pleasurable. I'm sure :P

  • Hello. I ve notied problem of hitting near strings when bending string. I guess I should try to mute others strings by my palm, but I havent seen any video where it was discussed properly... Any tips? I use relatively lot of distortion, so I have to get the technique to be really good. But no success.

  • I had the same issue until i used my hand to pivot into the bend as justin talks about as opposed to bending with the fingers, which tends to cause the tips to "roll" instead of "glide".

Think of the fingers as holding the string down as the hand pushes the fingers, which are attached to the string, rather than pushing the string with the fingers.

  • Hehe, I am not sure if I get your point. I try my best, but yeah... Only the opposite (?upper direction?) is doing this mumbo jumbo. Down bends are realatively ok. And thank you for your hint mate.:-)

  • No problem. Again, for me, it was really bad. The tip of my lead finger would roll up as I bent the string down, causing it to catch the lower strings rather than move them out of the way. I really did not understand why until Justin said to pivot with the hand instead of pushing the string down with my finger. This action allows me to keep more pressure into the fingerboard as I bend the string, which keeps the tip of my finger in the same position through the bend without rolling up.

  • Hey again. I ve noticed one more thing the thumb position. My thumb is in the middle of back neck and thumb oved the neck seems trange for me... well lets see if the practicing is gonna make it perfect.

  • if your thumb is in the back, it's actually better, more proper position. bending up is going to be harder to get used to, and so is bending, but will be easier in the end because you wont have to move your thumb over just to bend.

  • Watch Eric Clapton & his Gibson SG (1968) at 2:25- perfect vibrato!

  • man that was really helpful. this guy is really good!

  • this guy is a good teacher...

  • Angus Young bends with little finger :)

  • Excellent lesson :) Been struggling with this for a while.

  • Thanks a lot been struggling a long time. Great teacher!

  • Somehow I keep losing the "volume" of my guitar when performing a bend vibrato. Is this because I am not firmly pressing the string down during the bend? Or is it simply a lack of practise?

  • You're not fretting the note properly. Practice bending.

  • Its probably about pressure. but sometimes the problem arises from using too much force the wrong way. The right way your hand feels relaxed and you use minimum amount of muscular force to acheive a goal. But see if its the same all over the neck. if your whammy system is badly balanced, if some frets are worn down or if its a cheap guitar with a bad neck where frets further down touch the string when its bended tone may die due to mechanical reasons. Soft necks can kill tone when stressed too.

  • My guitar is a pretty cheap one, Epiphone LP special 2. I think my problem is two things: I cannot execute it smooth ( lack of practise ) and the equipment as well. I guess I have to let someone play my guitar who can bend vibrato well to test out if it is really bed or decent.

Still need to work on my technique.

  • @DoubleVla i have and Epiphone LP standard no problem at all

  • Guess it is simply my technique then. Probably not properly pressing the string.

  • or a lack of sustain, same problem here

  • i <3 his telecaster

  • thanx a lot

  • Nice lesson, dude... helped a lot ; )

  • I'm 16, and I'm small, like 5'0 small. When I got to bend with vibratos, I can do it, but it seems that I am literally throwing my entire body into it. The neck goes up and down pretty violently. Is there a way around it?

  • no the only thing to do is make a crazy face and act like you know what you're doing!

  • your right. confidence is key in guitar wankage.:)

  • Vibrato is a hard technique. All it takes is practice but a lot of people are simply impatient enough to not care how their vibrato is, this is YouTube, not an audition for the next big thrash metal band.

And if they have the skill and knowledge to actually know what they're doing instead of read tabs all day, they've earned my respect.

  • thrash metal LOL!

  • Way to avoid my point, tip of the hat for your ignorance.

  • thanx : 3 keep workin on your vibrato ya nub

  • sure sure, post a vid and i'l believe you : 3

  • If I had a video camera I would, but my fairly sad and empty video library only reinforces the fact I am one short a camera, and I'm in no position to buy one...I'd have to use a shitty webcam.

  • lol, well played sir!

  • I think no one wants to earn your respect.

  • Ah, did you do all those thumbs downs? That's cute. =)

Whatever, base your opinions on what you've seen in this small conversation, I just hope you have the common sense to realize that I really don't give a shit, and that you fail at insulting people. kthnxbai =)

  • nah, it wasn't me ^.^

  • Ah, so I'm rather unpopular. Ah well, I'd have to be one sad individual to care about what someone says on YouTube...

  • this was VERY helpful THANKS!

  • Good vibrato there man : ) You've taught me alot of stuff with your videos. Honor to you :)

  • I've got a great article on vibrato on Associated Content. When you get there search for Clark Palmer

  • ha, you dont have to practice it....

    6:43

  • try the steve vai vibrato. its probably the best sounding. its quie hard to et confidence with it but it looks and sounds awesome.

  • U got 0.009 on this guitar right? I got ten's on my acoustic and i can bend like in 2:53 :/

  • justin, what string gauge do you use in this video?

  • Your note is kinda blurry more needs more purity but your lesson is good.

  • "actually that was a little bit naughty" haha Love this guy.

  • very explanatory...i like the way he phrases everything in concrete terms that begginners can understand...i am jus above an intermediate player and i remember how hard it was to figure out and play some of these techniques and the way he teaches makes it much easier...i wish i cud have found this video about 2 years ago lol

  • bravo galing

  • Good video. Funny thing I looked for "bend vibrato" videos because of my research into the "Stairway to Heaven" solo - which begins with the very same vibrated C to D bend - I can hear it perfectly clear in my head now :)

  • FAIL. it is the g string but 7th fret = d note (same as 12th fret d string which is an octave above open d if you didn't know) does it halp if i count? (g) g# a a# b c c# d. 7th fret. d.

  • watching zakk wylde + david gilmour solves as well

  • action makes all the difference to be honest...and how new your strings are

  • I have the same problem, my fingers go under the other strings...my nails and finger get scratched. I'm playing on an acoustic steel-string guitar. Is the string tension different on an electric guitar?

  • WAY different. Tension is gauge dependant as well. The higher the gauge of the string the higher the tension. Since a steel-string guitar has bigger strings it also has more tension.

  • is it normal that when you bend alot, your nails start to get f'ed up? my nail on my ring finger is getting loose :s

  • 3:17 thats what she said, haha

  • really awesome.

  • Great video man! Could never get the proper technique down until i found your lesson. :D thanks

  • a little bit sharp that was a bit naughty lol so british

  • This bloke sounds Australian actually.

  • my problem at the whole thing is, that my fingers go under the other strings, if i try to bend, so i scratch my fingers bloody after some bends... can you tell me, what i can do, that my fingers dont go under the other strings? =(

  • Try keeping your fingers flatter, so that the other strings go underneath your finger tips.

  • v what grandynguyen said

    also helps:

+ setting your strings/the action lower

    + using lighter strings

  • lol, "might be a couple of the rock guys"

  • Justin you are the best.... you helped me so much..thank you
