  • Porcupine Tree are a wonderful band. In a way, it is good that they're not mainstream, because then we'd be flooded with them like say, Coldplay, and you'd have Idol contestants singing PT songs (urgh, yuck). But on the other side of the coin, Radiohead are well known and mainstream, yet they've managed to keep their indie credibility, and haven't sold out. PT deserve great success, it's hard to believe they lose money on their tours. The mainstream have no taste

  • What a great song, what a great band... Hope to see them before i die, unfortunately i'm from Chile and its going to be very hard to see them here... :(

  • I think its good these guys are not popular in sort of a way because usually things that become popular get ruined i love them the way they are

  • I think the point of this song sounding similar to Pink Floyd's "Dogs" is because well, music has come so far. Pink Floyd is most definitely one of Steven Wilson's biggest influences. So in a way, whether the similarities between the two songs were intentional or no, it pays tribute to one of the greatest bands in the world. Because even after all this time, they still touch us today in so many different ways. "So the best thing you can do is take whatever comes to you, because time flies."

  • I was born in 67 too, it's ones of my favorite songs... great song

    Porcupine Tree.. They're Giants

  • Good song... but it's similar to Dogs (Pink Floyd).

  • So... am I the only one who prefers this single version because it cuts out the annoying six minute guitar interlude and the atonal guitar solo?

  • @kyletheenigma

    youre not alone :)

  • @kyletheenigma I like both, for different reasons.

  • fuck single edits

  • Porcupine Tree is the world's most underrated band. Like this if you agree.

  • @AdventuresofTweakiny Disagree. They're not underrated, they're underknown

  • @AdventuresofTweakiny Like XTC, great bands, underrated bands...

  • @AdventuresofTweakiny Underknown, but not Underrated.

  • Been a PT fan 4 many years now

Turned alot of people onto this band.

  • My (current) favorite PT song. I think it's just beautiful...but yeah, it sucks that it's hacked in half.

  • i'm going to play this next time im trying to get with a girl

  • Very nice!

  • For all those who don't know, this song IS a homage to Pink Floyd's "Dogs" off of the Animals album. Steven Wilson has not tried to hide this, and has openly stated it in numerous interviews :) Give the full version a listen to, it will not disappoint!

  • This song captures a lot of nostalgic feelings so accurately that it's hard to find words. Maybe the song has another meaning, but I know it is good music when it brings pictures, smells and sounds in my head I thought I had long forgotten. It was almost instantly one of my all time favourites. Just for that Porcupine Tree have a special place in my heart.

  • I honestly like this version better than the album version.

  • Wow...I heard this song and instantly thought "Dogs"....and scrolled down to see everyone else felt the same way. Good song, heavily influenced by Dogs obviously.

  • Porcupine Tree (Pink Floyd) at their best...Great song...

  • brilliant. Now THIS is art.

  • @SeanIsaacBillings

What do you mean by "dogs"? That they are heavily inspired by Floyd or that they are ripping them off?

  • It's already been a year since I first listened to this song, time flies.

  • @SeanIsaacBillings

I had the same thought exactly.

  • Long song, but it's cool.

  • @Teskue how is this song long?

  • @WyattTheGuitarist Original version is like 12 minutes.

  • It seems 9 Lady gaga fans accidentally stumbled onto this page.

  • I am dying to see them live!!!

  • @goofygirly2010: omg, you have to take the chance as soon as you get one, they are the best live :D

  • i just jizzed out my ears

  • @soul160 eargasm

  • totally totally totally rocked the Colours of Ostrava !!!! Their performance was sooo epic !!!! I wanna hear them again and again and again...

  • I saw them last night at Pistoia Blues ... wonderful!

  • ugh. do the whole song or gtfo.

  • I love it!!! The voice,the music,the video: ALL:O)!!! The BEST Progressive-Rock Band!!!

  • those layered guitars are so powerful and done so well

  • steven really has a great voice

  • Beautiful!

  • this is music...

  • Dogs!!!! Part 2 XD

  • Good music FINNALY!!! not that Lady gaga or jonas brothers shit

  • Sonuds Like

    DOGS - PINK FLOYD

and the end a little bit like SHEEP

this is ANIMALS - PINK FLOYD

  • @esdraks really!!!

  • @esdraks definately! thank you! They also remind me of a Tool/Pearl Jam sorta feel..... They were recommended to me due to my love of RUSH and I absolutely feel in love with them! AWESOME!!!

  • "And laughing under summer showers / Is still the way I see you now"

"I can tell you what I'm thinking / While we're here and drinking / But I'm not sure where to start"

    Man, I love that lines...

  • Best Porcupine Tree song I love it!!

  • amazing guitars by Steven Wilson...his voice is so so mesmerising!! :)

  • Brilliant work. Been searching for more melodic-prog for a while and was thrilled to happen upon PT. Thank God for the internet, otherwise it would be difficult to find such a wide array of quality music and we'd be stuck with *gasp* radio!

  • this entire album is the sex

  • Reminds me of the Animals album by Pink Floyd.

  • @cleanmonk32 I thought the same thing-Dogs.

  • @antinaswarmofbees then again, they are prog. rock, so its pretty obvious that they would be inspired by Floyd, since they are one of the fathers in prog. music

  • Check out my new band "while the city sleeps", we have been highly influenced by porcupine tree!

  • pink floyd revival ale dobrý

  • Europeans make me nuts..so logical..green..trustworthy..competent...bakeries that rock...we are left for wanting.. I want my backpack, sandals, music, local eats and European Hottie...no puns intended

  • it reminds me of dogs' intro by pink floyd

  • modern pink floyd

  • Toujours aussi sympa à écouté

  • For your information,

    Google "Translate" is your friend,

    Do not forget.

  • @DanSolo01 Google translate is crap.

  • @werewolfme2

Who made you the language nazi here?

  • @gozaderadrfunk Hitler did!!

  • @werewolfme2

Gracias por su respuesta tan ilustrada.

Grazie per la risposta. Intelligente. Molto!

Thank you so much for your brightness and preconceived assertions against other languages and cultures. I am sure that Steve Wilson would be proud of such a fan.........Really.....

  • very special song.. porcupine tree is the true group that makes all the emotions reals!

  • very special song.. porcupine tree are the true group that makes all the emotions reals!

  • And then i realise, TIME FLIES!

  • What Insetik47 said. Actually, I'm going to watch "One" right now so I can revel in the (superior) past

  • is the full track no where on youtube? ;\

  • @ninjastep87

Damn right man!! They did the same with 'The Grand Conjuration.' It just doesn't sound right when editing has been 'committed'! Yes! 'Committed' cos its blue murder, that's what it is!

  • Will a day ever come when the world would turn off the radio and embrace a song that's longer than 5 minutes? Will the "single" ever become a dirty word in music? Will a piece of sonic art ever be considered sacred and never allowed to be butchered up like this has been?

    ....wake me on that day.

  • Only when a generation becomes completely engrossed in this type of music. See Metallica's One: 7 and a half minutes and it is never cut when I hear it. As long as popular artists today are scared of lengthening their songs the fans will be too.

  • These are the truest words. They wouldn't leave out half of a painting or half a poem. It changes the entire song. Every second that has ever been edited to "fit" is a crime against the artist and the art.

  • @mustaineaddict

I tend to think of this version and the full version as two completely different tracks which engender completely different moods. They both have there merits depending on my mood.

Is the original still better? oh hell yeah but this version isn't completely worthless.

  • I would agree with you in general, but I think this song keeps it's integrity despite having a big chunk cut out.

  • @ninjastep87 And if you happen to remember, wake me up to.

  • @ninjastep87

Not really, but don't let that dishearten you. True-to-the-art musicians have been suffering critics since the Renaissance, perhaps earlier. And while some musicians of the day were far more celebrated, the true musicians are the ones that are remembered and celebrated to this day.

  • @ninjastep87 Sadly, no. Popular culture, especially in this day and age, has killed good music.

  • @ninjastep87 How has this piece of sonic art been butchered up? By the way, I would say that Lasse Hoile's video's for these songs are pieces of art, too.

  • @ninjastep87

I totally agree. once they get all of this mainstream pop-garbage off the air and a new era of good music reigns, they will have more time to air the full pieces of sonic art. Songs like these have more affects on people than anything else people listen to now'a'days. It's sad.

  • @ninjastep87: I reeeeally hope that happens soon. i don't understand why people make money off of that pop shit going around right now, it is NOT real music... this is the music thats real, this is the music that should recieve the attention, not that little fucker justin bieber. this is the music that has the power to make changes in people's lives.

  • @ninjastep87 amen

  • @ninjastep87

    Amen, brother..

The full song is a work of art, and a masterpiece in my humble opinion, but this is an abomination.. And just looked at youtubes suggestions -.- Nickleback, Green Day, Dragonforce and fukcing Owl City..

    What's wrong with the world?

  • @ninjastep87 Woooooorrrrrd

  • @GlintsCollide1

thumps up for Meshuggah-related YT account name! ;)

  • seeing them april 30th when they come to chicago... sooo excited, even though its months off,

  • From this song, I think I shall now arrange a halftime show.

  • oh man, this is great. i wish i could cry, i would be bawling everywhere.

  • A brilliant track and video. Made me cry watching it on my birthday, though.

To be honest, if I wasn't a diehard PT fan, I wouldn't listen to things like "The Incident".

But I have to say, the video they play along with their live set is just superb, and this is just one example.

  • It seems that the guys are really some "Animals" fans. the song realy sounds like "dogs" and "sheep".Though, great job.

  • i've been to my first PT live concert last week... it was JAWDROPPINGLY AWESOME! the best thing that you can do is take whatever PT live gig comes to you :-) if anyone deserves football stadions full of fans it's PT...

  • @SuperGorak because it doesnt have a hole for u to fuck

  • @SuperGorak

I did.. It only hurt a little..

  • @SuperGorak I guess you'd have to find a hole in your monitor that is accommodating :-P

  • @SuperGorak

    I had...

    A pleasure you'll never know...

  • This video and this song are two masterpieces.

  • Fuck, I adore PT so much. I love the direction of this video, I mostly overlook music videos thesedays, but it's amazing to see a band who still make something worth watching.

    <3

  • This is brilliant. My younger brother, MycoGnome, gifted me their "Fear of a Blank Planet" CD & my friend & fellow Prog Rocker, Nuttidave, just sent me this very link. It's such a beautiful song & what withall of the visual treatment, why, I nearly cried ~ (•8-D}

  • Wolverhamton Dec 6th..... cant wait. !

  • absolutely reminiscent of pink floyd's "sheep"...perhaps a little too reminiscnent....

  • to be honest, it sounds a lot more like "Dogs" to me with all of the strummed acoustic patterns and super mellow bridges. I can still hear a bit of sheep, though.

To be honest, I really like the Pink Floydyness of the Incident.

  • Muahaha, they cut the song by like 4 minutes.

But still an excellent song. Another PT masterpiece.

  • First time I listen to these guy, and I have to say that I'm impressed!!! It's like Pink Floyd mixed with Neil Young with the lead singer sounding like Maynard James Keenan!!!

  • yesterday i've been in their concert in bologna! it was unbelievable! i adore them! ahhhhhhh i will never forget yesterday nite!

  • i'm so jealous ^^ but i will get my chance to see them in a couple weeks.

  • GREAT SONG :-)

  • This video suits the song so well. Well done to everyone involved.

  • you can get the video free on itunes right now:)

  • Hollar to Lasse Hoile for the amazing photography throughout most of PT's career.

  • I think the original song, the longer version is way better.

  • gavin harrison is amazing! I didn't discover this remarkable band until I came across prog drumming great gavin harrson. Up until now, porcupine tree has been one of my favorite bands.

  • good... but... ehhh... pink floyd dogs???

  • yea, but still, this is a great fucking dong!!!!

(so is dogs, one of my fav off of the animals album)

  • and 1:29 to 1:36 sounds a little bit too much like Dream Theater's "Finally Free" before the line "Feeling good this friday afternoon".

  • Oh I'm sorry, that's in the album version but still...

  • This video is brilliant. I can't believe how perfectly it interprets the music.

  • FUCKING STEVE WILSON!!

    Really nice song. really.

Even his worst composition is a win. Like Akerfeldt.

  • It's wonderful when a great song gets the great video it deserves, and vice versa.

  • Cool video,good music!

  • Well, nice=)

  • Great song, but where's the high quality video?

  • sweet

  • I am very glad they are finally getting the recognition they deserve now they have been amazing for years !!!!!!!

  • I must agree. I've known about these guys for years, but never really listened to them until I heard Halo and Deadwing. <3

  • AMAZING-this now urges me to buy their whole discography. seriously,i can see why steven wilson is talked about often though. i cant wait to hear the whole 11 minute version:D

  • crazy trippy!
