  • i was reading some of the comments and most of them are really sweet and heartfelt, but some of them, i mean what are u thinking people? type one diabetes is a serious illness, saying it's not or calling people with it lazy or fat is rude and the people who did/do this are ignorant and idiotic, it surprises me to read the comments people think are funny to post

  • i have diabetes:

i play lots of sports so im constantly checking my BG! my mum and dad help me manage the hard parts though im 14 im more independent now.

  • so how do you treat yours? with injection? tablet? I've had some blood tests to check if im diabetic, hopefully i am.. because then i can feel better so later im going to find out.. I drink plenty of orange and coke but it doesnt last long :( thanks for this video

  • @LinetteTheBest I agree thats why there are such things called DIABETES1 and DIABETES2..2 generally is for the overweight - who get it later in life. Type1 has nothing to do with diet or overweight..

  • i have type one and at first i thought it sucked and there was nothing good happening because of it. now i look back and remember how messed up i could have been if i hadn't gotten it. im 15 so i was kinda thinkin about drinking and smoking and that kind of stuff. i was also depressed and wasn't ever happy but for some reason after i got it i started feeling better about my life. i dont know if it is just because it gave me something to do or what it was but whatever it is i am happy it happened

  • to tell you the truth i dont know why i have a meter to play with i think its because i just like to pretend a lot of kids pretend to be a princess and stuff i know diabetes is serious im not saying its a joke there is a boy in my class with diabetes please no more mean comments on my comment i dont have diabetes and i know its serious i just like to pretend

  • i have all the symptoms of diabetes and i kinda think i have it im hungry alot thirsty alot tired alot and after sports i feel dizzy and like im going to faint i have a meter to play with i check my blood sugar like a normak diabetic im not worried abot it but i like pretending.

  • what are u saying do u have diabetes why would u have a meter to `play` with ?

  • diabetes is not a joke

  • cool vid im getting my pump soon

  • @charlieccc15 i might get one but i play competetive football regularly and im worried about if it breaks.

  • hi footy i got a pump and i worry that it mite come out so i went back to injections but not coz of that it painfull wen i put it in but thats coz i ant got a nuf body fat yet but when i do im gona go back on it and when you play sports it sud be ok so you mite wona try it 1 day just sayin lol oh and the pump is very tuf

  • thanks 4 the advice.

  • your welcome

  • i would not get it if i was u if it comes out u have to go back into hospital to get it re insetred every time

  • yeah thats wat im worried about

  • @footyfarid19 You dont have to go to the hospital. Its not a needle that stays in you for a week. Its a small tube the size of a needle. I dont really know how it works, Because Me myself, I just use the pens. I would hate the feeling of having something connected to you 24/7 even while your sleeping.

  • @crotchcake yeah, i dont like that either, it doesnt feel natural to be hooked up to some little machine. i think im just sticking with the pens :D

  • @footyfarid19 Good Idea Haha, I have a friend, She uses the pump. And they Kept breaking. or malfunctioning on her. She went through maybe 5 in only afew months.

  • what an awsome way to conceal your pump

  • I love the video Kerri!!!!

  • Genius!! you keep your pump in your sockk!! why have i never thought of that?!?!

    ella : )

  • i've been diabetic since i was 9 and im not over weight. why do people stereotype like that

  • I would like an answer to that question as well! I was 5 1/2 when I was diagnosed, 20 years Dec 17th!

  • i think i have diabetes

  • As a type 1 for 50+ years I just have a couple of comments. I can see the correction bolus after the 180 reading but I can't see the exercising right after the 252 reading without inserting another correction bolus in there. I realize the whole idea of a compressed day in the vid but someone may actually try exercizing to lower a high without bolusing first. Then again, you may have just eaten and dosed shortly before.

Keep up the good work Kerri.

  • I hope people also dont think checking our blood sugar is the only thing we have to do to maintain diabetes. Heh, If all I had to do was check my sugar, then diabetes would be easy! How is the Seven CGM system? I have the Paradigm real-time and cant stand it. Its too bulky, the seven looks much easier to insert, use and live with.

  • Ahh, you gotta love the ignorant YouTubers. There ain't no winning with them, they're jackasses just for the sake of being jackasses.

I've had type 1 since January, and I've never been overweight a day in my life. Type 2, yeah, it can be brought on by being overweight and a poor lifestyle, but T1 is an autoimmune disease. You have no more control over getting it than you do over getting cancer or lupus. One day people will understand the difference...

  • wow, amazing how just plain stupid some people are. It's unbelievable how generalized peoples ideas of diabetes has become. It's almost as if the word "diabetes" has become as general as "cancer"- and could almost be likened to saying that because some people smoke and get lung cancer, that anyone who is diagnosed with cancer must have smoked or otherwise done it to themselves, despite the fact that the cancer might be in a completely different part of the body.

  • do your fingers ever get used to getting poked everyday? have you ever had any complications from ur disease?

  • im the same ive had type one since age 10, i think people would get a more realistic view on diabetes if this video wasnt based on a pump therapy. I think seeing someone do 5+ injections a day (like myself) would change some perspectives on the subject

  • i agree that maybe it's hard for people to identify with the challenges of diabetes without seeing someone give injections all day, but this is a realistic view of type 1 diabetes for someone on a pump.

  • thats nothing compared to my mom.

whenever her sugar gets really high, she cant do anything.

she has to go lay down and rest.

and if its too high, her mouth goes numb and gets dry feeling.

and if its really low, she has to stop what shes doing, eat some candy or some juice, and then take a shot to get her sugar back to normal. She doesnt prick her finger that much because shes had it since i was born and im 17, so she knows when its high or low.

i love my mom very much

  • your mom needs to take blood sugar readings she cant no for sure what they are she just cant no exactly

  • Diabetes is funny.^^

  • huhu^^

  • boo hoo

  • Yeah it's difficult.. I am glad that people are out there like you that show that although it is difficult you can still live a normal life with it.. I did not realize how many people have diabetes and how young a lot of us are that do..

  • Thanks for posting this. I'm young, overweight and am on my way to having diabetes if i don't shape up. this video helped put what my family and friends are telling me into prospective.

  • my heart goes out to you

this disease is so often seen as "not a big deal" because its "manageable" but that doesn't change the daily struggle of diabetes sufferers and the need for a cure

  • You people bring tears to my eyes....

  • Was your diabetes inherited? Unfortunately I have stereotyped Diabetes to be a disease for obese people only, but clearly you are in "good shape."

  • My diabetes wasn't inherited. I'm the only one in my family with type 1 diabetes. It is an autoimmune disease that has nothing to do with my weight or lifestyle. There is a stereotype, but hopefully people will become more educated about the differences and will keep asking questions. Thanks for yours!

  • me to

  • how many times do you test a day. I can see why because your readings are all over the place. But then so are mine.

  • I think it is cool how you did this. i'm 14 years old and i have diabetes. Your life is prettty much like mine, except i go to school instead of work (:

i'm glad you can share this with people

  • Interesting to see how a typical day would be. Didnt realize how much you guys had to check everything....i suppose its something that would become second nature though ?

Good to give people understanding of these things who havent experienced it.

  • Yeah, it does become second nature after a while. It's just one of those things that you get used to. It's that or die, take your pick.

  • hahaha ya isnt that funny!! now lets make fun of retards you prick! dude diabetes isnt funny its like having cancer theres nothing you can do to get rid of it and if it gets worse it kills you you fuking ignorant ass.

  • You have no consideration for others!! You apparently have no idea what it is like to have diabetes. Maybe you should go a week with it then come back here and tell us what it's like. You'll never laugh at someone with diabetes again. I promise you that much.

  • You are a perfect example of someone who needs a little more education.

  • yes, because 5'9'' and 150lbs is REALLY fat. I really should loose weight shouldn't i? Why don't you go research type 1 diabetes and then come back here?

  • yea right!

  • @ZakFrost if you had a brain, you would know that getting fat has nothing to do with diabetes at all.

  • I've got diabetes type one too! I am 13 years old but I still use my life like everyone else! Maybe it does diabetes users good, because you got to exercise and eat healthy!

  • I have IT

  • Keep on teaching & sharing... Hey after this on. A good laugh from a new comedy. Search Tony Longo. Sample episodes from new shows. Once you watch 1, U R hooked. Good laugh

  • I have been a type 1 diabetic for 22 years, and I take insulin. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease, not a result of eating too much sugar or being lazy.

This just a small bit of a day with diabetes. I test my blood sugar from 10 - 15 times per day, and also wear a continuous glucose monitor. Diabetes is a very management intensive disease. This video was a light-hearted way to show that diabetes isn't "easy" or "invisible."

    Thanks for your comments!

  • But Jesus doesn't heal people does he? Science does, Its just a matter of time until science figures it out for good.

  • yeah, but compassion doesn´t heal this disease ...

  • People who are making jokes about Diabetes here do not know the agony and pain of getting your self into the routine of eating tablets and constantly maintaining your blood sugar level...

So i would say shut the fuck up and Thank GOD for you being healthy.

  • I have sympathy for the people who are born with diabetes, and I wish that some kind of cure could be developed that would could put the disease into permanent remission. However, the people who ACQUIRE diabetes don't get an ounce of sympathy from me. My grandfather had it. He brought it on himself. Ate sugary foods and didn't exercise, so fuck him. Too many fat slobs out there who bring it on themselves, that's why diabetes is so prevalent in the USA now.

  • my father has type 1, and he didn't bring it upon himself, he got it at age 36!!! he takes insulin everyday, and has NEVER been overweight. you are generalizing and are being lame in general. people with type 1 really have all of my sympathy, but i know very little people with type 2 who have it so hard.

  • Glad someone is taking up for people w/diabetes. My son was diagnosed at 13 & died at 36 after being legally blind for 4 yrs, on dialysis for kidney failure, & became double amputee 6 mo. before his death. He at the most weighed 125 & was 5:8. Never an ounce of fat on him. Diabetes is a malfunction of pancreas, something like appendicitis. Most people assume they know all the particulars, but until someone very close is or dies from it they no nothing. Take care & God Bless your DAD.

  • I'm sorry about your son and your loss...

  • go read up on your facts before you post a comment. no one in my family is obese and neither am i. i weighed about 4 stone when i got it, and that isn't being fat. you are making fun of people who could have died you prick

  • @daddyofsmack you do not get type 1 diabetes from being a "fat slob" , being overweight or eating sugary foods. That is a common myth that people believe with is FALSE!

  • wow your numbers were kinda high

mine are around 100 to 130 at the highest

hope there not always that high

  • im diabetic and i gotta take like five shots a day.

    ha it sucks.

    sub4sub?

  • Hi, thanks for the video. I have some question though...what did the numbers mean when you were checking your blood? Were those pills insulin?

  • The numbers were my glucose values during those blood sugar checks. Thankfully, I am not always that elevated. I test 10 - 15 times per day, and also wear a continuous glucose monitoring system. Type 1 diabetes requires a lot of management!

The pills in the drawer were not insulin - I wear an insulin pump for that. The pills were my blood pressure meds, birth control, and vitamins. All part of maintaining overall health. :)

If you have other questions, please feel free to email me!

  • I'm really sorry about that!I take 4 metformin a day !Good luck to you

  • That is inline with what i test. During school i normally test 5 or 6 times then at home i test before i eat, exercise or do much of anything.

  • i feel so sorry from the bottom of my heart

  • My mother has this as well, she's gota take insulin three to four times a day. It is not fun.

  • dude my mom has diabetes and shes canadian :(

  • U are a prick

  • haha yeah it reminds me of my day...i have the same meter and pump :)

I wish people would learn to differentiate type one and type two diabetes...

and in response to GOPfemale: all diabetics are prone to have high blood sugars once in a while even if their control is very tight.

  • Dude, just be happy that a lot of people are aware of diabetes and even make accomodations for diabetics.

There's so many disorders and diseases that people are unaware of and don't have the slightest understanding of when comfornted with it, so they think you're making it up

  • Why were your readings so high? It is possible to stabilize glucose levels with your pump. Maybe more education on basal rates and more frequent checking would help...

  • I didn't like this at all. You just showed us using your meter 3 times a day. Otherwise your life was VERY normal. That must be many more complications involved in the life of a diabetic, and you didn't show those.

  • my brother has type 1, its hard to live with diabetes, and those who have it are strong people. keep on truckin' everyday

  • Lamp

  • lol too bad

  • may god bless you

  • LOVE IT!!! Lol it had me laughing.. kind of reminds me of my life haha.. btw, love your blog too!

  • Trust Jesus all

  • Trust Jesus, how stupid is that ? You are very religious ... ? No, you are a bible freak ;) But I accept it. You are American. I know that many Americans are very religious and believe in stupid things like god created the world and so on ^^

I would rather say: Trust the research. Research save lifes, but not Jesus ...

" research is the best medicine " you know ;)

Life sucks if you are a diabetic. I can understand the people who has it.

  • Wow. Be respectful.

  • who me

  • Unless someone has already trusted in JESUS they will never knw the peace of mind it brings to ones life. See above & am glad my son accepted HIM as LORD& SAVIOR before he died at age 36...Our days are numbered pal....

  • It's really awesome that you put this up because one of my friend's has diabetes and he has a needle inside somewhere around his abdomen connected to the little device you have. I never knew what diabetic people had to go through until I saw your video. So thanks for showing us this =D

  • I start my day at 3am to test my sugar, then I go back to bed. I'm back up at 7am to test and eat breakfast. I use a pump so I have to find somewhere to put it on my person when I get dressed. The rest of the day is pretty normal, test, bolus insulin, eat, repeat! I go to bed at 11pm and I test before bed. I also have to keep my cat away from my infusion tubing, she thinks it is a toy for her pleasure! I am lucky, 23 years so far and no complications. I'm a grad student, a wife, and a friend!

  • Do you live at your job?O.o
