  • ahhh I always thought that in The Yellow Wallpaper that the women was expressing her freedom and independence through the only forum available to her. Locked in a house and with her movements restricted her only act of defiant free will is to tear down the ugly yellow wallpaper in her room.

  • When the harsh victorian era controls peoples thoughts through rigid social conservatism the only way to express free thought is through insanity. Crawling over her husband at the end of the story symbolizes her freedom over him.
