We must stop supporting these pathetic celebs, stop supporting big industries, ie, macpoison along with the other poisonous fat cat companies, stop watching the idiot box, stop buying pathetic girly magazines, alcohol, make up, new shoes every bloody week, a new handbag every month. Lets start to love the soul again peeps.

Its probably a requirement for these aristocrats to make this commercial...seems fake. I want to see results...I want to see what they did for Haiti it sounds like the people are all dying of Cholera now.
They always make these for free - it grabs attention - don't pass judgement on others without knowing the facts - they did not become rich by chance or inherited the wealth they worked for it and remember you are still fortunate as compared to 1 billion kids who will go to sleep hungry - so do something do a charity walk. Remember Steve Jobs did not go to school either nor did Richard Branson - they both started from nothing!
So every time a Brit snaps their fingers a child dies!!!!!! We need to stop them, quickly everyone start cutting of the English thumbs, do it for the children.
Are you an American? Because its usually Americans who stubbornly substitute British with 'English'- its not one and the same. Anyway the main point here is poverty. Whilst I hint sarcasm in your comment, the statistics are genuinely alarming- 180 MILLION people died in the last decade from poverty.
Bono can cure poverty, but he can't do it by himself. The guy is immensely wealthy, which helps a great deal! He oozes buckets of charisma and sex appeal.
Whatever difficulties we may occasionally experience in the UK, US, France or any other rich nation and we do have problems, its simply not on the same level as the DRC for example. 'Its not our job to help' No ones suggesting we can do everything. But only a very cold individual would do nothing. Im unemployed- I still find means to help charity even if its on a small scale.
Poverty is a problem that lies of a much wrose problem: the money as we conceive it. It is responsible of poverty, pollution, drug traffiking, corruption and so much suffering. I have in my account some solutions (to who is interested it). Politicans do not show the true problems and i am scared for what could be happening really. If you speak spanish, you can understand this.
Over the past three decades, over 6 million White Africans have been displaced from their birthlands, some of them having been rooted in Southern Africa for over 500 years and knowing no other fatherland. The last group currently being targeted by the radical ANC government in South Africa are the Afrikaners, victims of both a murder campaign and a range of devastating race laws which limit their access to jobs, education and capital.
actually i contribute annually and i volunteered at a cafe where they sent money to a similar charity for two years and i sponser a child in cambodia and uganda... so really im not contradicting myself at all ... tad of a pointless comment maybe??
@letschill99 It's not our world.. It's us... We are the problem.. Until one day we can realize.. It's this society.. It's Civilization.. As much as every single person who wishes not to hear this. We are all part of the problem, It can be a small portion or big. In the end of the day each individual person is supporting this world :/ The only people we have to blame is the Human Race.
@letschill99 I agree with you. But to say that helping animals far away is not important too, well isnt that selfish? Why shouldn't any animals have a chance in the world we are destroying. Every human being and every animal deserves a fair chance at life no matter how far away either one of them are!
@cyros0 Really? I'm 25 and I've felt the same way since I was 16. It's not naive, it's not unsophisticated, it's the simple truth. We need to change the world, and we can. I'm glad there are young(er) people who feel the same way. Young people are often the people who make the effort. Look at Burma, Argentina, or China.
@TheOfficialTone "cheating" china out of trillions of dollars? obviously you nor anyone else here understands the situation.
although many people disagree with my opinion, some others may agree with me too, i also do not have much evidence for my claim that poverty is not really eliminated, only "moved" or "redistributed"
yes i know that over longer periods of time it probably does decrease slowly, but for the most part i claim it only goes somewhere else.
@ctoon6 Yes, it's impossible to eliminate poverty. If everyone has the same amount of money there's no incentive to work. If there wasn't poverty you probably couldn't afford the clothes you're wearing now.
@TheOfficialTone you should be more reluctant to use the word impossible, i believe in about 100 years poverty will be virtually eliminated, probably sooner.
@TheOfficialTone do you need to be in poverty to be in the working class?
in the far future i would see that in order to maintain the current standard of living in the US for the entire world, granted the world population is not too much higher, we would work far less because machines would be more sophisticated and be able to make things faster and way cheaper.
@ctoon6 I'm saying that almost everything we own comes from people in China working for under $1 an hour. First of all, in the far future the world population won't be "not too much higher". The population is growing exponentially and there will likely be at least 50 billion people in your 100 year hypothetical if not more. You're idea sounds good on paper but the only way for that to work is if the owner of the machines decides to share all his money equally among everyone else.
@TheOfficialTone most people who have seen charts that compare oil usage with population growth see a correlation between the 2. because of this our current population is not sustainable because we don't get enough energy from the sun to keep up with growth. and oil in essence is very concentrated energy from the sun.
you make a point about ownership, but what if in the future companies were owned by the workers? look up "worker cooperative".
@TheOfficialTone so if we did not have huge companies like walmart and their gang soaking up large amounts of profit, while the real workers do the heavy lifting, and they instead made all the decisions and split their income somewhat equally, they would be better off. im not saying we go steal walmart, but instead set up competing companies that do operate as worker cooperatives.
@ctoon6 No offense but ur being to idealistic atm, cuz what ur saying is practically impossible to do. How on earth are you gunna get rid of poverty in less than 100 years when about 85% of people live in extreme poverty? U cant change the whole world overnight bud. All the people with the big cash are not gunna say" Hey take my money i want to eliminate poverty!" Matter of the fact is, we will never be able to fully get rid of poverty. Communist governments have tried, but did it work?
@XXCUTlEXX07 i did not say take the wealth from the rich and give it to the poor. i said that people should form competing companies in the form of worker cooperatives with some help from the government to get the movement started.
additionally you offer no solution at all, but instead attack mine and offer no other solution. is our current system working? and who knows what life will be like in even 20 years. for all we know the us could collapse and apes will take over the world.
poverty can only end with a just socialism...where evrybody is equal.........what i just don't know is if a just socialism is possible... I don't wanna end like living in Cuba!
its fustrating cos if they realy cared... they would give there own millians away of which they have many but instead then use these kind of adds as publicity stunt and get others to give away there money of which they have less of
you will have poverty as long as greedy and stupid politicians run the countries. in ethiopia people have their workplace bulldozed. you can give trillions in aid and politicians are still going to put this in their pocket. and you cant buy rain.
its foreign investment that makes countries rich. billions went to africa and nothing improved, while asia blooms from our investment.
billions went to Africa because western politicians knew it would be wasted. This in turn works in their favour. For example if you were to get a loan tomorrow, the person loaning it to you would prefer it if you paid it back bit by bit with interest, than if you paid the whole thing off. That's why they need to cancel the debt. Poor countries get exploited for their desperation. China booms because of its exports and fixed ecomomy. Very dark really.
girls aloud managed to do it after the about the 17th take. bless them.. i find it annoying when celebs do things like this because they could give shed loads more than we could if they really cared that much.
which means 28 800 * 365.25 = 10 519 200 children die a year
in the population of africa alone there is 680 000 000 people, so it would safe to assume that they would be having more children then die..which means that your argument that we would run out of children only works if you assume that no new ones are born
Someone please tell me why they are just standing in front of a camera then going to a home care-free when they SHOULD be going out to the people who need resources and actually DO something instead of telling the peeople working hard to get by to make povery history when they could do that with their own money
SELFISH CELEBRITIES
GOD BLESS the ones that have actually done something to help
I think these ads would make more sense if it wasn't rich celebs doing them. Brad Pitt's asking price for making a film is 20 million dollars, and he's telling me to do something? I can't even afford school! He could probably buy a whole school. I think we need to hear from the people that are actually being affected, not Brad Pitt and his A- list actors.
I have never seen one of their commericals on TV. But I think if they did put real people on there who faced this; it might actually make more of a difference.
@JackLivesTogether At least hey are doing something, and having celebs do it and having a powerful advert grabs peoples attention. It's about publicity of the make poverty history campaign and it is still a step in the right direction. and then you have the cheek to come on your computer and slag it off? and then have the cheek to complain you can't afford school! You have stuff like a computer and yet you still manage to complain (Y) well done, very constructive.
@JackLivesTogether I agree with what you are saying but people appear to be inspired more from the famous than from real people. It's a sad world we live in huh?
@48state That's exactly what it is too. People don't do anything until they see Brad Pitt and his posse gives a shit. It is a sad world we live in when people wont do anything until famous people do.
Is this supposed to make me feel bad? All these rich ass celebs banking on human ignorance and cultural depravity telling me to give a shit about the less fortunate?
One really isnt about citizens individually digging into their pockets to donate, even though it would be nice if most felt compelled to do so, but its about speaking out and/or writing to a government official and telling them that you think so much money is going into useless services when we could be spending that money on AIDS research or putting it into the World Bank. "we do not ask for your money, just your voice".
If every employed person in Western Europe and North America donated $25 per month to reputable aid programs there would be no reason for any one in the third world to go without food OR clean water. Regardless of your motivation we should ALL have a bit of compassion...
this year i did help in project compassion and results were vast... we raised so much money and made alot of people aware of the situation people are in... i think its just sad and unfair for those in poverty!
this is such fucking bollocks, yeah live aid saved 2 million ethiopians by feeding and watering them, but now twenty years later those 2 million have had kids and theres 6 million people starving and dying of dehydration because theres no infrastructure in the country. Their deaths are self riteous bastards like bono's and bob geldof's fault
but we have alot of african over here in new zealand and australia who lives in goverment housing they all moving in numbers youngster are becoming gangster parent are claiming 10,000 dollars from tha goverment.M8 if anything,if african can do all this over here then you people hav a PROBLEMS!!!
true, but it's good to know that the world's richest man-Warren Buffett and the world's 3rd richest man-Bill Gates have donated 37 billion dollars and 31 billion dollars, each.
All of these British media personalities earn tens of thousands of pounds more a year than the average young British worker. Most young people today in Britain struggle, or find it near impossible to buy a house to keep their heads' dry: The world's problems will not be solved by simply throwing money at them - the politics are somewhat more complicated than that.
I love this video. Does anybody know where i could download it? I'm doing a project for school, and the subject is AIDS AND POVERTY IN AFRICA... and it has Make Poverty History in it... and so i would love to have this video so if anybody knows where i could download it... that would be awesome. Thanks!!
WAR and radical mobocracy regimes create poverty. If Bush spent all his war budget cash against poverty instead there sould be no poverty left in the world at all. All that money bush and American presidents spend on war could have transformed all of the worlds most horrible slums into beautiful natural paradises by now. Remember that.
i wear the make poverty history band cuz i believe in it, it's not just fashion.......it's unfortunate that people are living in povery, but that's just how the world is I'm afraid. X
i seriously dont think a child is dieing every three seconds or else one day we would all be dead, but with all that money they are paying for the war in iraq they could have stopped poverty in a second
yeah poverty lets go! no more over population!!!

You have stuff like a computer and yet you still manage to complain (Y) well done, very constructive.

@JackLivesTogether
You make a fair point, but celebrities would also be criticised if they were silent on poverty.
WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1 1 year ago
@JackLivesTogether I totally agree with you.
DareToDream3 1 year ago
@JackLivesTogether I agree with what you are saying but people appear to be inspired more from the famous than from real people. It's a sad world we live in huh?
48state 6 months ago
@48state That's exactly what it is too. People don't do anything until they see Brad Pitt and his posse gives a shit. It is a sad world we live in when people wont do anything until famous people do.
JackLivesTogether 6 months ago
Is this supposed to make me feel bad? All these rich ass celebs banking on human ignorance and cultural depravity telling me to give a shit about the less fortunate?
Gimme a break.

One really isnt about citizens individually digging into their pockets to donate, even though it would be nice if most felt compelled to do so, but its about speaking out and/or writing to a government official and telling them that you think so much money is going into useless services when we could be spending that money on AIDS research or putting it into the World Bank. "we do not ask for your money, just your voice".
moralxdecandence 3 years ago
If every employed person in Western Europe and North America donated $25 per month to reputable aid programs there would be no reason for any one in the third world to go without food OR clean water. Regardless of your motivation we should ALL have a bit of compassion...

this is such fucking bollocks, yeah live aid saved 2 million ethiopians by feeding and watering them, but now twenty years later those 2 million have had kids and theres 6 million people starving and dying of dehydration because theres no infrastructure in the country. Their deaths are self riteous bastards like bono's and bob geldof's fault

true, but it's good to know that the world's richest man-Warren Buffett and the world's 3rd richest man-Bill Gates have donated 37 billion dollars and 31 billion dollars, each.
almost 2/3 of their total fortune.

All of these British media personalities earn tens of thousands of pounds more a year than the average young British worker. Most young people today in Britain struggle, or find it near impossible to buy a house to keep their heads' dry: The world's problems will not be solved by simply throwing money at them - the politics are somewhat more complicated than that.

the 3 persons with much money in the world are more richest than the 48 countrys in extreme poverty.
i read the information in a mag.

WAR and radical mobocracy regimes create poverty. If Bush spent all his war budget cash against poverty instead there sould be no poverty left in the world at all. All that money bush and American presidents spend on war could have transformed all of the worlds most horrible slums into beautiful natural paradises by now. Remember that.

it is a real statistic, believe it or not. also, every minute someone dies from aids as well. the world isn't so wonderful after all is it?
