I bought THIS DVD just because I'm a die-hard fan. Brandon is probably the best replacement available, but the script is really bad. A stiff, selfish, show-off of a Superman, illegitimate son, weak plot, Superman NOT sensing the huge ammount of Kryptonite on the continent and the anti-climax ending being the ultimate slap in the face when it comes to the history of the character. Divine irony,he did most of that already....he died fighting doomsday,his blood ressurected some people(Smallville),he sent a few bad guys to the Phantom Zone,he created a new heaven(Justice League :p),and made a new,safer earth.

If you've read many American comics then you'll notice that most (if not all) superheroes are based on (or very much like) the various gods of different religions, and their adventures and misadventures are often very similar to the corresponding mythologies.

This new version looks awful. The actor playing Superman is neither handsome nor well-built. The acting looks cheesy and junior-grade. The whole thing is a but a parody of the lush adventure story so masterfully depicted in the Richard Donner film. Also, this so-called Superman's costume looks like rubber. One more thing: Kevin Spacey is an entirely overrated actor who has neither the masculinity nor the darkness to portray Lex Luthor.

I live in Sydney where alot of the film was shot, apparently most of the cast and crew did so much crystal meth or "ice" it's a wonder they finished it..
