I guess the most comparable Marshall to it would be the JC900 or whatever it was. Hi-Gain for sure. Now that I've had my Carvin, I haven't really played the B-52, but if you're into Metal with a cutting tone, it'll do the trick.
@BrothersCinco It sounds a bit like the PAF Pro. Basically the same kind of difference as every Bridge with No Tone VS Neck pup i've heard, but i've never really sat down and listened closely haha.
@senoritoriver The PAF is in the neck, but I don't think I had it selected anywhere in this video. If I did, it would have been the first few bars of For the Love of God
@TheEthanhausler That depends on what you want from it. I haven't really tried the Super Distortion too in depth, so I'd check out DiMarzios site and use there little Pickup Finder feature to get a general idea of which ones better for you.
@TheEthanhausler What pickup is better is rather a subjective term. I would suggest talking to the DiMarzio techs about what would be best for both of them. But the Tone Zone is a really nice and thick sounding pickup, which is why it sounds amazing on basswood in where the wood density is lower than most woods thusly making it a non-bassy type of wood (despite the name). The Tone Zone gives it balls so to speak. Super Distortion is more a vintage sounding humbucker, it sounds super clear too.
Fendershred50: I have the tone zone and i think you can get a very decent Friedman tone, you only need to get a bright overdrive pedal to boost up your solos, that should work fine!!
@T3l1uS I find pinch harmonics pretty easy to get on the Tone Zone, but as (I think) Zakk Wylde said, you should be able to do it on an Acoustic, or your not doing it right, but, they're fine on this pickup. As for the output, they're a high output pup according to DiMarzio, and the specs are on their site, so check those out and put them side by side with the 707 specs
I'm really not sure about Air Nortons getting a Yngwie tone, I don't listen to him very much. Sorry :(
Actually i don't give a damn about comparing both... EMGs are just not worth it, i don't like how they sound. DiMarzio got sick products, so many that you can't actually choose one so easily, haha. I'm a bit concearned about their output volume... I mean, the Tone Zone and the Air Norton. But that can be fixed with a boost switch.
Thanks for your help, i'm much more secure about the TZ.
i have a fender guitar so i think i should get trembucker, what i want from a pickup is, soft(not too much treble but still not too much bass) when clean, bright(not heavy metal sounding bass but not high treble so i can hear chords better) when distorted so should i buy jb or sh 14 or dimarzio the tone zone? help me please!!
I'd actually probably recomend the Breed for you, as it sounds very nice, or the AT-1 if they're still selling that. A tonezone would also work, but it could pottentially be too bassy for you and not bright or clear enough for chords. Depending on your amp, the pickups could sound a bit different so keep that in mind. I've never played one, but I hear a lot of people say the JB is really 'honky' so it might not be the pickup for you. Hope that helps :)
@vadikent I think Paf Pro will be better for you, it has very good clarity but less output. It hasn't too much bass and it's not too moch bright so it can suite your style
hi i hav an rg2550z (edge zero trem) prestige guitar
can u recommend me a neck pickup in combination with tone zone pickup at bridge position
also whether i should buy f-spaced pickups or regular dimarzio's coz the official site site says f-shapd pickups are meant for brdges spaced atleast 53mm or more
F-Spaced is for Trem-EQuiped guitars, so yeah, Go for F-Spaced. If I recall though, You can usually get away with a regular spaced neck pickup but I could be wrong. Best to get them both F-Spaced.
I have a PAF Pro in the neck position of mine, and I really like it. A lot of other people use things like the Air Norton, and the Breed, which seem to get a lot of praise. Any of thsoe would be good in my oppinion
I've had a Tone Zone in my guitars since 1991, I love them. Because they are mid-high output, not really a super hot output and the bass and mid response is great on them, they sound awesome in a guitar equipped with a trem. By the way, I also have an RG1570 and it is solid as hell staying in tune. You just have to work on setting them up right. They are a bit of a pain, but once you get it down, adjusting is easy. I use the hell out of my trem much like Vai and Satch and have'nt broken a string
Best to stay away from floating trems.. Unless you are Vai, you would probably use the bar less then 10% of time. Plus floating trems are a pain in the a.. to re-string.
Well, It had good sustain a while ago, But I think I messed up my tremol-no during the last string change and now tuning stability is wonky, and sustain is lowered. Not the pickups fault, though.
I have not tried out an Evolution pickup yet, but just from some basic research, the Evo is very trebly and high end-y. A lot of people refer to the tone as an "Ice Pick". The Tone Zone has a lot more bottom end. It really depends on what Guitar and Amp your using, but if you have an Amp thats high gain with lots of Treble, an Evo might not be your thing. Hope that helped.
Your amp probably helps a lot with that. Don't get me wrong, from what I've heard in sound clips the Evo is a fantastic pickup. BUT, If I were to have used it with the amp I did in this video, it would sound like tin foil. If I used it with my new amp (X-100B) It would probobly sound fantastic. Kemporbrad was spot on in his explanation.
what tubyboulin said is correct, but the evolution is hotter than the tone zone. and with the TZ it can get muddy with a really hot amp. with the evo...it allows you to crank the bass on your amp. Steve Blucher from Dimarzio himself told me if you have a really hot amp with lots of gain, its a good idea to stay away from really hot pickups. he also didn't recommend the TZ for amps with lots of bass, and dark sounding guitars such as mahogany
im buying a d-activator tomorrow for my neck, and a tonezone or X2N for my bridge, i cant decide between tonezone or X2N for my bridge any suggestions?
By the sounds of it, you play a lot of metal? In that case, I'd probobly recomend the X2N. LeftyRobb on youtube has a demo of that pickup if I remember corectly, so you should check it out.
solding the black & white together where would go the red & white for the powersound pickup and the red wire where the green one, and the green & bare of the tonezone to ground corresponding to the black & bare of the powersound...
i think it's ok teorically but like i said doesn't sound really brilliant.
i would aprecciate your help bro as can't find nothing about this around the internet. i hope this can be useful to others too, cheers and keep the good work!
Hey man, glad I could be of Help!! I didn't install the pickup all by myself, So I really don't know what to tell you. did you Follow a wiring diagram? Your amp also plays an important part in what itll sound like, so it could be that. :)

yeah it may sound funny that its in an sg but it can crank out some good metallica? iron maden sound. I play it through a boss md2 for that sound and a wylde overdrive and it sounds great cus its got a wide tone control. The clean is very lear and sharp and can be dull if you want it to its only in my bridge though cus ive already got a nice jazzy blues pickup in there that i use for my school jazz band stuff. Great balance from heavy to clean.
Im not sure how the single coil version of the Tone Zone sounds, but if its anything like the 'bucker than you wont be disapointed. Its a really great pickup :)

Hey man... How are pinch harmonics and whammy bar harmonics on the tone zone ? Easy to get harmonics ? Comparing to EMGs 707 are they much weaker ?

Your very right about the EVO sounding very trembley especially compared to my SD TB-4(JB) pickup. It has no bottom to it.
And the price!! $134.99 is only because VAI plays them. Or so he says. But I love VAIs tone!!!Thanks for the response.
