  • I can't be bothered to scroll through all the comments...but who ever thinks Jools is miming is an absolute..COCK!

THE VIDEO IS OBVIOUSLY OUT OF SYNCH.

  • Are the people that are suggesting he's miming seriously trying to convince everyone that from 1:00 - 1:14 he learnt to press the right keys that have the same pitch as the keys in the music at the right time but still isn't actually playing and isn't capable of doing so...

  • wherever lady Judy is i am sure he's dancing with this tune

  • @xarissof well i may be wrong but i think that this is the get happy right ?

  • @tomdaveybassist OUCH! ;)

  • I suppose the folk that think he's miming must also think the audience are miming their claps coz they're also out of sync ?

  • One of the best session pianist's there ever was and still is

  • course he isn't miming! it's fucking Jools Holland not One Direction!

  • @tomdaveybassist

    Or Cheryl Cole.

  • He's not miming, I've noticed that most videos on youtube, the audio doesn't seem to be synced rite with the video, you can see it in most youtube videos. Its just something to do with the upload and compressing process I guess.

  • Is it possible to mime piano :L Some people are so stupid why would he mime when he did this as a career? :S

  • FYI: the song is, or is based upon, St. Louis Blues. It does not have the melody, but I have heard that tune played in many variations.

  • does this music have a name ? or where can i find sheets or chors for it?

  • the Spanish Tinge of which Jelly Roll Morton spoke evident in this piece

  • a true legend!

  • An Imperial Bösendorfer played by one of the best pianists in the world... GOLD!

  • Regardless of who did this tune first, or who plays this like it's supposed to sound, I tell you what....I'd give my eye TEETH to be able to play piano like this!

  • @eldorado62 Do you play the piano? Why don't you learn if not?! It's never too late - I'm learning to play the tenor sax and my teacher says I'm the youngest he's teaching at the moment (I'm 20)

  • @crazypianolady, hows tenor going mate?

  • @porge97 It's going well thanks! I'm going for my Grade 5 next feb. I love playing it, although it's still not better than the piano haha.

  • Haha miming hahahahahaha - there are some strange folk writing comments around here!!!

  • that's cool but if you want new orleans piano listen to professor longhair and dr. john.

  • what key is he playing in?

  • Comment removed

  • just found out, this song was origonally done by the God himseld, Dr John, Dance a la Nagres. This is just a more up beat version adapted by jools

  • @notraep yep though dance a la negros was composed by gottschalt in the late 19th c. but yeah dr john cut a great version on his going home to new orleans album

  • What year was this aired roughly?

  • If you like this try listening to Bill Payne, Dr. John, Fats Domino or the great Professor Longhair to hear how it's SUPPOSED to sound...

  • Awesome piano playing!! : )

  • dead ringer - pardon the expression - to Ted Bundy

  • Jools is sponsored by Yamaha pianos, thats why he plays them now. Bosendorfer and Steinway are better pianos in all departments, I prefer Bosendorfer for their mellow rich tone and their action is unbeatable. Steinway probably do have a better all round tone though. Yamaha always sound a bit thin and lifeless/bland to me, good for pop though. Each to their own

  • What a lame glum audience. What are they, British or something?

  • @biglinguist Yeah funny that. British audiences LISTEN and don't feel the need to whoop and holler while the musicians are playing. How lame is that?

  • @wcpom Thats quite stereotypical, I'm going to assume that of the considerable ammount of people in the USA some of them are able to "listen" to music. Twat.

  • @MrPocketGuitar Yeah it's possible, but I am going to assume that @bilinguist who made the comment about the "lame, glum British audience" isn't one of them.

  • @biglinguist

Its called listening and appreciating, rather than shrieking and guffawing like children. Never really caught on across the pond..

  • @biglinguist You're a bit of a tard.

  • @biglinguist I would imagine they are British, or maybe some other European country, mature and restrained in their understanding of music, and capable of holding a beat and enjoying themselves whilst allowing an extrordinary artist perform.

Maybe another countrys folk may feel the need to whoop and a holler in a totally vulgar way. Each to their own.

  • @lagerandwine (and others): My point was that when this kind of music was originally performed (by Americans, in bars and brothels), it was intended to make people whoop and holler and shriek and even guffaw. That spirit is lost through loving recreatiions performed in front of glum mardy train-spotters who argue about the brand of piano the performer is using. I'm not trying to be troll-like here, but geez, people...

  • @biglinguist Fairplay biglinguist, good point well made. I agree with you, They need to get the party started! Let yourselves go people.

  • that man is tall...

  • @SilentPianoMan It's obviously each to their own and the recording quality isn't doing it any justice. And, yeah, a Yamaha has a sharper sound that'd probably sound better for some honky-tonk. Just saying that if I had to sit down at a Bosendorfer, I wouldn't be disappointed. Anyway, I've played on concert grands made by all three and, again, everyone has their preferences, I just wouldn't agree that a Bosendorfer is inferior to either a Yamaha or Steinway. I'd say a Kawai is mediocre....

  • @SilentPianoMan Are you implying that a Bosendorfer is a inferior piano to a Yamaha??? I'd take a Bosendorfer over a Steinway or a Yamaha any day. Actually, thinking about it... I'd actually want all three... :) Either way, you certainly can't say that it's mediocre!!

  • 1) its called video lag

    2) dont be a dumbass this is jools playing there is countless footage of him and he has played for various artists enough said

  • funny.

  • @TehWinnerz

what i think you're seeing there dude is lag of the audio - because what you're suggesting is actually almost impossible and doesnt make a lot of sense as some of the guys have said

  • I guess these people are also amazed when Jools stands up and can't even lip-synch to something as simple as "Thanks very much!"

  • @TehWinnerz

DUDE, what your sayin' is that he's a terrific actor, 'cause if ya look closely, he even hits every key and at the exact same time as music plays!!! give the guy an oscar!!

  • er....

  • dude look closely, he's not even playing the piano

  • fuck off, he is playing the piano! what are you suggesting, he is an amazing pianist but yet he chooses not to play for real on his own friking show? Also, the people standing behind him dont notice anything odd! ALSO, if he was miming, the audience would instantly notice a difference in sound coming from the piano to that of a speaker!

so piss of, youre wrong, stop being jelous

  • @notraep your damn right there why the hell would they put him on a Bosendorfer, if he aint playing he might as well sit in thin air playing an invisible piano, that tehwinnerz is a complete tard

  • @MrMedderzEa, thank you for agreeing with me! :)

  • @notraep your most welcome :) happy to help out

  • notraep is miming!

  • sigh. I win.

  • no, you're wrong! don't feed the troll! oh wait

  • idiot

  • @notraep heh. Learn to spot obvious trolling next time ;)

  • ...that makes 2 idiots, all my points still stand, plus, someone would have found out by now if the BBC had payed the audience and most likely sued them. Also, they have come to see jools and his show, i think they would be dissapointed if they found out that he wasnt even playing. so just stop trying to make these shite conspiracies, you and the other prick.

  • hahahahaha! comrade!

  • Are you really as stupid as you sound?

  • jools holland is a awful presenter. i always wonder why he got to host 'later' until i saw this...

  • jools is great but ......don1t be so perfect......be mo` natuar like toots..

  • Jools hosts probably the best live music show this side of the universe!

  • Took me a minute...but I'm sure that's Little Feat's 'Dixie Chicken'....

  • youre right. i knew it sounded familiar

  • no its his solo piano peice from the solo piano albulm called Dance a les negres

  • Professor Longhair live on

  • sure iv'e heard this in an ella or nina tune??

  • WOW !

  • a la Professor Longhair, as Dr John would say?

  • name of the song?

  • he is actually amazing, i would love to be able to play like that

  • I know what you mean, I'd give my right hand just to have his left.

  • do you have a clearer audio version of this..? is good playing but bad audio..sad :)

  • Sadly not, it was captured from a worn out old vhs tape so the audio is sadly as good as it will ever be. hopefully somebody else might upload a better version

  • Good Idea..

    really good play.

  • Whats the name of this song ??

  • the crave by jolly roll morton..it was improvised into boogie style actually..

  • Are you shore? It sounds like 'Dance A Las Negres' off his album 'Solo Piano' to me

  • yeah, you could be right. I just taught the tune of this music is same as jolly roll morton's the crave.

  • Yeah, they are very similar

  • i don't see any special connection with the crave, maybe a little, but his interpretation and improvisation is marvelous

  • yeh ..i agree with you.. it sounds more marvelous. i think he took some part from the crave.

  • Don't get me wrong, but Jools rushes the beat slightly...it makes his playing a little stiff.

  • I cant stop listening to this!! Its so good!!

  • thats the jungle beat which is debauching us *in love* i could listen to it all day long

  • yep, fantastic, one of his best
