The best we can do to elimate this as a society is to educate people as much as possible about the dangers that can arrise from it. @chairincarnate I, personally, don't believe that conscripting men or women is right. We do not have conscription in my country. But just because *you* have not seen a feminist do something, doesn't mean they haven't done it. You've obviously made up your mind about feminists in exactly the way the media wants you to.

And the weird thing is feminism is such a fractured movement. Some of you still claim we live in a rape culture and there's a wage gap or that we live in a patriarchy (really? A patriarchy? do you know what that word means radical feminists? sigh) And some of you don't believe any of this, but still insist your movement is relevant. In the middle east, maybe.

@bmaseray Feminism is a fractured movement because people like Battlefield315 put down feminists to the point that moderate women feel alienated from the word and the movement.
Some of us claim those things because for the most part they are true. And most feminists don't claim that we live in "a patriarchy". We've been misquoted by anti-feminists in that respect. We DO live in a 'patriarchal' society.
Feminism is still relevant. Misogyny still exists. You can deny it but you'd be wrong.

@MitholX The reasons are not because of folks like him, but because feminist's don't agree with each other. Right now feminism is broken into so many different camps you can hardly call em all feminists. The definition of feminism is so broad some of my friends call ME a feminist.
Feminism will not get ride of misogyny. Nothing will. Just like nothing will get rid of misandry or misanthropy.
And a "pratriachal society" and "patriarchy" are the same thing. Both are ludicrous.

@bmaseray They are ludicrous, yes. But that doesn't make them less real. Up until the mid 20th century, we all lived in a Patriarchy. This society has roots in patriarchy and those patriarchal roots continue to taint it.
The goal is not to eradicate misogyny, but to make it less prevalent so that it no longer defines this society. And if not feminists, then who is going to accomplish that? It won't happen in my lifetime. But the more feminists, the more likely the next generations can.

@MitholX To claim that our society has its roots in patriarchy is just like saying it has it's roots in slave labor. Its technically true, but it no longer affects (effects? I can never remember) society in a way that can be substantialized. And to say misogyny defines our society is even more ludicrous and untrue.
Feminism has does its part. Women are equal in the eyes of the law. There is nothing else you need to accomplish, all that is left can be done better by Secular Humanists.

@bmaseray It *does* still affect society. There is evidence of it everywhere. May I ask if you are male or female? Because from the perspective of a woman, misogyny still exists in most areas of life. It's disguised, and most women have chosen to accept it without considering the possibility that we might move forward, past it. Anti-feminists like to perpetuate the myth that feminism has run its course. But they're wrong.

@MitholX Indeed we are, If only because our ego now encompasses the entire solar system.
But because the feminism movement as we know it evolved here and since the majority of feminists in the world seem to be here, it only makes sense you should be arguing evidence about the US.
Also it simplifies things a bit doesn't it? And if you are depressed I recommend the the fail blog or Loading Ready Run. Only real cure for depression is hilarity and companionship.

Why are there pretty much no overweight/typically unattractive women in movies/TV/media, but plenty of overweight/unattractive men?
Why is it ok for men to walk around bare-chested in public but not ok for a women to do the same in her own street?
Why is a woman called a slut for enjoying sex and a man not?
Why are women so often scantily clad for men's objectification?
