  • For tablet-less losers such as myself (LOL!) the pen tool seems to work for this. Not as well, but sufficiently.

  • awesome, thats exactly what i needed :) thank you

  • hi can anyone recommend a good drawing tablet with a price around $100 NZ?

  • it looks fantastic

  • are you using a tablet?

  • Awesome video, with precise instructions. My first try following the tutorial (using Photoshop Elements and Bamboo) was pretty good, even with no experience on drawing!! Thanks!!

  • Great video!!!! (:

  • I learn a lot from your video !!!!!!!! I find it hard how to draw a seemingly-realistic hair strands and your video has solved my curiosity.

  • Lol there were SO many times that I was sceptical as to how it would turn out, but it actually ended up being pretty damn good. Well done.

  • Excellent tutorial sir :)

  • so justin Beiber photoshops his hair...

  • wooow!!...i love it so much this is 1 of my best hair tutorial thank you so much u should do more tutorials pls

  • do you use a visual tablet (i mean one with a screen) and around how much did you get it?:)

  • @MiDnYTe25 no I don't have a tablet with a screen. I use a wacom bamboo 'pen and touch' at the moment, which is like a normal tablet, only you can use your fingers. The only good visual tablets that I know of are wacom's Cintiq, and PL tablets. The cheapest of these is about £850 ($1300 US). Although I have a theory that you could make on with a old thin monitor screen, a dismantled drawing tablet, and a bit of solder.

  • thts sick dude nice job

  • Can I actually make it look good without any tablet 'cause I don't have one ;/ and I'd really like to do that.

  • @doku66655 Its possible to do it with a mouse, but its a lot trickier.

  • Yeah, Hair, thats what I wanted to see

  • smart way of doing hair!

  • I have a question: I usually do my hair by drawing strands with the soft/fuzzy brush, I usually start off by drawing the base then I go to a colour darker then lighter then darker then I would get the white fuzzy brush a whole lot bigger of a size the draw shine and then I would Gaussian blur it to my likings then merge the hair layers and burn some shading c;. I'm just sharing my way :]. Great tut btw. I kind of don't like the base showing so mush but it's wonderful.

  • Thank you SO much! You say: There you have it, that's how you paint realistic hair in photoshop... Well, I won't use your method in photoshop, but with paint and brush! You show each step so well, and I'm sure I'll be able to do the same with paint. The last steps I'll do by glazing. Can't wait to try it out. Think I'll make some notes first, to remind me of each step, or have the laptop beside me so I can take a look, pause, paint etc... :)

  • Great tutorial. Thanks!

  • This vedio helped me alot,I always had trouble with makeing Hair in PS. thanks for makeing this video man! ^.^ -hugs-

  • Brilliant! A very realistic final result; I'll be sure to try this out in my work. Thanks for the tutorial!

  • I've got a question: what if you want to draw black hair?

  • @5CHW4RZK0PF Black hair is a bit more tricky. Try dwaring the whole hair piece in black. Then using a light grey (#acacac or something similar) with the opacity set to 45-50% draw in the strands. You can then use the dodge and burn tool over the grey lines to add high and low lights.

    Hope that helps.

  • @xpoc Also, A bit of advice, black hair tends to have bluish shines in certain light. Maybe you could play around with using DARK purple at a low opacity in some of your highlight. Just a thought!

  • @xpoc I'd love to see a vid for long black hair if you have time!

  • @5CHW4RZK0PF just desaturate your result....

  • A good way of doing black hair if you don't know what your doing... Is to follow this tutorial to the letter and then set the layer to black and white... ^_^

  • thanks!

  • Great vid man, thx!!!

  • Unbelievable! 5*

  • holy that looks so realistic

  • THANKZ brother

    BEATLE STYLE !!!

  • thank you so much it really helped me

  • great work that was real simple, im modeling a in 3ds max and i think this is what im going to use. hopefully u have someother useful stuff

  • nice, looks like my hair, lol

  • Thankyou for this!

  • No problem. I hope it was helpful.

  • Wow! I liked this tutorial.

  • Did u do this in real time or did u speed it up and add voice?

  • I did it real time. Recording the voice as I was using photoshop. The scratching noise you can here is me drawing in the hair with a graphics tablet.

  • Thats a real nice speed you got there!! Now im tempted to buy a tablet even tho i just mess around with PS!

  • Messing around with PS is how I started. Now I use it every, and teach it on the web. Tablets are a great buy, and you can get a good one for £50 ($75)

  • for real? u can find one around $75..lolz. i always thought they cost lyk 600 or sumthin..where can i find one that cheap..? thanks

  • nice

    cheers mate

  • Wow, I really like this one :) Ive used a very similar technique on a few digital paintings Ive done, thisll give me some extra tips though. Thanks! Keep up the great work :D

  • Actually using burn and dodge doesn't usually give you a realistic look. I don't suggest using this technique ^^

  • NICE!!! so helpful

    thanks buddy

  • thanks! very nicely done!

  • did you use a mouse to do this or one of those pen pad thingys(i'm not sure what they're called)

  • Yeah i used a graphics tablet, but this tutorial can be done without one.

  • its alot harder without one. it takes more patience

  • That was pretty cool only if i looked up this video ahead of time. Cuz right now im working on a painting in Photoshop of Heath ledger as the joker in college. The hair is the thing im having a hard time with cuz of all the color.

  • That was really cool! I'll never be able to do that, but it's really cool to watch.

    5/5

  • Ahh! It's Rob on Youtube! :D

Great tutorial btw, got some pretty nifty videos on here

    Alan

  • good learn a lot

  • Very Nice, thx for the tutorial.

  • thank you very much, one of the main things i wanted to learn in photoshop. =)
