I love that little run at 1:00! it's brilliant! maybe that was a weird thing to pick out since everything else is brilliant too =) Bravo Bravo Bravo Bravo!!!!
wow i play violin since 1 year and 3 months ago i wish play viola in the future, this video showed me:the violin isn't the only instrument that you can play really awesome paganini musics
@gymnast768 this is originally for violin from the concerto in b minor (no. 2) -- so you need not learn viola, in fact it would be easier on violin ;-)
Carrie Dennis's interpretation I can listen hundred times without feeling tired, her fantasie and beauty just touch everyone who listen to her. I think paganini will be also happy when he saw someone plays his music so amazing. those who practise 8 hours just for playing every notes in tune should all watch this video, THIS IS REAL MUSIC!
Carrie is such a brilliant musician and player, basically supernatural. This is by far the best I have ever heard of this piece on viola. Bravo absolutely.
It sounds marvelous on the viola!! I've only heard the violin, and the piano. The piano is lovely, but the violin is far too high for me it actually took enjoyment from the piece. But the viola is beautifully balanced bringing those squeaking notes down just enough and bringing that kind of fuzzy quality, unlike the violins clear, sharp sounds. I adore the violin, but I'm not the best for high pieces. The piano sounds lovely as well, Yundi Li's interpretation's the best
is the first time I've herd this pice in its originale version of the violin and i have to say .. WOW! the slides or what you might call them in the main theme of the song just gives me gosebumps all over!!
This is very good because it is so natural. Yes there are tempo changes, but they are minimal, charming and add to the character of the artist. I am very impressed!
Just joined ! This is extremely talented playing! Especially as on the viola, the stretches are double as hard as on the violin. I know as I play both. Musically it is also very imaginative. Well done!
I have to agree. She did phenomenal. I play viola as well. Playing this on the violin presents no problems for me, and is rather easy by Paganini standards, as well as my own... but playing it on a conventional viola (mine has the cutaway pattern) is unbelievably difficult.
This violist deserves a great deal of credit for how well she does.
Stretches might be harder on the viola but the viola has 1 major advantage over the violin, just that the stretches. As I'm sure you're aware how impossibly tight half steps get in the upper range of the violin. For myself it's a big issue since I have large fingers but have been playing too long to switch to the viola do accomodate my hand. At least she's not playing the renisance style violincello (held on shoulder, smaller than cello but quite big).
I've never had problems with the half steps on the violin in the upper 20% Of the fingerboard. My problem with the viola is getting up high enough, and my cutaway viola is so much easier to shift with. Anyways, just do an Elman, as I call it, and fold your fingers on top of each other or whatever he did. It is actually entertaining to watch. He has sausages for fingers.
hey...if you're friends with her can you tell her that Rob from Sarasota Music Festival says hi!! i was her ex, Burchard's room ie that summer...she was a violinist then...lol...and i loved her so muc!! so cool!!!! and talented...she talked me out of quitting music!!
Carrie Dennis has inspired me to practice more! This woman is a BEAST on the viola. Every time I listen to this...I think to myself...have I EVER heard a viola played that much bravura before?
I can't wait to make a road trip to see her play in LA (since Berlin is too far). I wonder if I could snag a photo and get an autograph too?!
~Bruce (a BIG fan in Central Washington)
PS: I like this transposed e minor version better anyway that the original b minor version.
I am humbled, fuzzyfurrydragon... As an Italian, I love this music so much. AND, I always thought it is a good performance. Wish I could play so well. No argument.
I think Carrie plays very well. I play this piece too, (or used to, before my hands got too slow!), but never so musically... Well done! I look forward to hearing more!
Terrific playing. She was just named as the new Principal Viola with the Los Angeles Philharmonic (starting in Sept '08). Can't wait to see her play live in Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Amazing Playing. I have to say that I applauded her by the end of the video, she makes this piece looks so easy, I play that piece, I know how hard it is. I enjoy the music she makes. Bravo!
I love C string. It's so rich and deep. I wish my violin had a 5th, C, string. :D
