There are lots of guitarists now that have copied VH or Stevie Ray or Clapton, but I can't think of any that create the kind of sound that Brian May did. Really a one of a kind artist.
How could Dr. May not be a guitar virtuoso with his technical/creative mind, capable nature and those incredible digits!? He can play with ease what the rest of us strain to fret cleanly.
Brian is a very special, humble human being. We are blessed with imagination and style. How sweet of him to do this for all of us guitarist. Not many big time artist would provide us all with lessons. How rare.
hendrix, i wouldnt say he is the bast, he just kinda invented guitar playing and solos, i wouldnt say he is that good!!! brian may has so much more talent!

Mind you, I don't use plectrums either. Rather, I use a weird combination of finger-style playing and the tip of my index finger, supported with my thumb.
That's actually not that odd or weird. Two famous guitarists play like that - Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits, and Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac both play like that. It's a form of pick-less hybrid picking. I'm sure playing like that you can coax some cool lines out of the guitar, but at the same time, stuff like fast picking or heavy rhythm playing must suffer haha.
