Jazz is freedom, if you don't like the chords to e.g. summertime, you take different ones, like Modern Jazz quartet did. Horace himself would allow all sorts of freedom. But if you drag the beat it gets boring, also better recording conditions would help.
Difference is most of those musicias learned the original way it went before they changed the style. So, they had a choice and jazz is about freedom and options. But if they can only play it one way that is there wa are they really free?
Jazz is like food, cocked by the swedish cook(muppet), a lot of freedom, but some strange results might be unpalatable. the drums just sound a bit clumsy to me. but anything goes. I am all for experiments

Bad job, a musician's recreation is not judged by skill and talent (which your group was good at) but by how original it is to the original artwork, its very heavily modified, this is NOT something Horace Silver would have done if you listen to his work
wheres your degree in Music? theres a difference between quoting and playing a whole song with your style, ive seen things buchered again and again, so really
not that it matters at all to a discussion like this (seriously), but I am doing my degree in music right now. And if you think a musician should be judged by how closely they stick to the original... then your listening experiences must be very dull. it's all about interpretation! How you can take something someone else wrote and pay homage to it, whilst making it unique, making it yours! That's what's so exciting about covering someone else's song. New interpretations are great!
And besides, what is so strange about this interpretation? If they were doing, say, a heavy metal version of this song, I could perhaps understand your comment more (not that I would agree with it any more) but this is a pretty classic bossa nova/jazz arrangement, played well and true to the style.... I really have no idea what you're complaining about.
I can tell u aint a jazz guy. Jazz, music in general, is all about taking a song and making it your own. if not, u might as well not be playing at all.......
Nice. I'm a musical dummy, but it seems you found a way to put that nice little Latin nuance in there. Would love to see you hooked up with a real pro doing the video.
Nice sax work! Good drummer. Nice piano... okay... you ALL sounded great!
Gotta Love Horace Silver! This is a great song. "Senor Blues" by Horace Silver is also a wonderful song.
Mikayla's 8th grade jazz band played the same song. And Mikayla played her first completely spontaneous improvisation during that performance. It's available on her YouTube channel.
Is there any reason why this is 3 seconds long?

Excuse me? This is music. Specifically, this is JAZZ. Anything goes, it's yours to interpret, because you're the one making the music.
