If OpenTTD were just railroads I would agree. However it's more than just railroads. I also prefer the graphics in the Sid Meier game.

@DrReaper you know the way you should you could try it through stream does thast mean I could launch it from an old disc that can only run on xp and 2000 or can I somehow run the game with steam from a disc

I just ran the demo on windows vista ultimate 64 bit. I think steam has a way to make it work on newer versions of windows. If you want to test it on your system try the steam demo.

I think they should create the next rail road tycoon. best thing would be the track laing of sid meiers railroads, the big maps, the variety of engines and goods of railroad tycoon 2 the some improved graphics from railraod tycoon 3 and the signal installing system of transport tycoon. if those things come together in 1 game it could cost 3 times the price of a normal game and i would still buy it.

RR Tycoon and this game are different. Think of this as playing fast paced chess against other opponents (depending on difficulty level) and Tycoon as a more traditional freight/company/stock/logistic­s thing.

I find that this game is much more suited to me just wanting to build a little train empire for an hour or so and clobber some opponents..Tycoon makes me think a whole lot more about things because of the micromanagement aspect in that game. Its much more detailed than Railroads!

I love this game however it always crashes on me after about 10-15 mins of gameplay.. I've downloaded all patches that have became available to my knowledge yet it still crashes :(

@Gsketch Search a program called LaaTiDo with Google. Start it and follow the easy instructions. 1min work and you'll never crash again.

(it recompiles your exe so that it uses LAA. Firaxis sucks for their bad support on this game because it would have been easy, quick and clean fix to do it themselves!)

@DrReaper I could tell him how to do it with libraries and recompiling his executable manually. But I myself prefer to use LaaTiDo since it's quicker and easier. Had to use it on a few games allready since I started using Vista/Win7.

Were there two versions of this game released? Because in this video the graphics for certain engines and track look different. For example: the paint scheme for the consolidation locomotive has a wooden cab. But in my game it is all one color. I need help!

If I remember correctly it shows the version on the main screen somewhere right when you boot up and the trains are zooming by. I am not sure where my game is. I am going to go out to storage and see if i can find it.

I looked for the game and I think I already donated it to the Vietnam Veterans of America. I would check and see if there is a patch. If there is install it. Also make sure you have the new graphics driver for your computer. Maybe some one else has the game installed.

I like real roller coasters more. If you're into making money as a game refer to "Ruthlessness" as with this stuff. There isn't much here!
