Frank Sinara only sang with Harry James for a short period of time in 1939. Then he joined the Tommy Dorsey band. Dick Haymes replaced Sinatra and with Helen Forrest had many hit songs. One of the beautiful songs Sinatra recorded with James was On A Little Street in Singapore. Its on YouTube.
lol no i know u didnt restore this and im not putting it down by any means!! all i was saying is its over restored!! when a vintage recording is over restored the sound tends 2 be muffled and it takes away from the timber and tone of the instruments in other words it will sound constricted as this transfer does!! but at least it still exists 71 years later 4 future generations 2 enjoy and pass on!!
@skullbone79 Over restored? You may want to elaborate on that. I didn't restore this, but I would think that anything recorded on transcription discs is not going to have the greatest fidelity. They can sound decent but I believe this originates from copies of the original.
There are LP albums from the 1970's that contain some of this material. Perhaps they sound better than this.
An old friend of mine, Hoyt Jones (piano), was Frank's roommate on Harry James' band. He told me the story about Frank asking him if he should take the job offer with T. Dorsey. Hoyt advised against it...to which he added to me, "That's the last time I ever gave advice!" Thanks for posting.
What's the name of the first song? By the way, do you have 'Melancholy Mood', also recorded with James? I heard a few bars of it a year ago, and I've nearly been driven insane trying to find the whole thing!
"To You" is the name of the first song. I have "Melancholy Mood" in my collection but I cannot post it here because it's not in the public domain. These broadcasts are.
I forgot to mention that you can find "Melancholy Mood' in the "Harry James & His Orchestra featuring Frank Sinatra", CD from the mid 1990s. Still available. At least used from Amazon.
Where did you get this? It must have been an air check if it was a recorded broadcast. They used to have these 30 inch 78 rpm records which they used to record broadcasts. They were called "air checks". The quality was terrible but it was the only way they could keep a record of what went out over the air in those days.
There is nothing I enjoy hearing more than early Frank Sinatra.

When Frank first emerged in the public eye, the media called him "Swoonatra". Anybody with a brain can see why. 3

Thanks for uploading crooner2007. Frank Sinatra even before he became FRANK SINATRA was good and surely one of the best band singers.
Thanks for your work on this - it has highlighted Sinatra's vocal.

Yes, that was Harry's theme song and the opener for all his shows.
The two songs that Frank sang on this particular show were "To You" and "From The Bottom Of My Heart".
