For those interested in documentary filmmaking or photography while traveling, I recommend always having your camera with you, and walk around a lot. Don't plan everything, just be places, because you will always find surprises.
Nobody got hurt while I was there, at least. I keep thinking back to my close call. The train moved very slowly, but trains move relentlessly, so who knows what might've happened if I had crossed over the rail a second or two later.
Thank you. I was lucky that I was walking by at that time and that I had my camcorder. I had originally planned to add music, but when I heard the wonderful sounds , I decided not to. Since YouTube allows videos to run no longer than 10 minutes, I had to cut out about 7 or 8 minutes, but I tried to do it by shortening some scenes and cutting some redundancy. It may have made for a better video essay. -- Bill Olson
The crane and workers re-railed the locamotive, in small steps. The track looked bent, perhaps by heat. The workers allowed anyone to get as close as they wanted. I cut some footage out for YouTube, but you still might glimpse a young couple passing by the locamotive. In the States, the workers would've keep everyone away to prevent a lawsuit in case anyone got hurt. Though I'm not Catholic, I was touched by the worker who removed his helmet as the statue of The Virgin passed.
The derailment happened at the base of a pyramid that looks like a hill. There's a church at the top. It's possible that the band would've come by even if the train wasn't there. You can see the pyramid on other YouTube video.

What an excellent video!
Wonderful that you also caught the parade.
Did everyone stop work while it passed?
What was the cause of the derailment?
Is engine damaged from this?
Was there no one on the leading end of that train backing through the area where a lot of people were gathering and watching?
How did they rerail that locomotive?
Thank you.
