  • nice. ;)

  • hey,im from malaysia

In Malaysia, there a quite similar dance as Tinikling called mogunatip.

    ur dance is nice

    cindy jayne

    malaysia

  • tinikling is such a good way to lose weight. i did it one summer(rehearsed for a couple of months) for a cultural show here in houston, tx. and i lost a lot of weight that summer.

  • its an awesome, joyful dance.

  • Good to keep the heritage alive! I'am half Ilocano half German born and raised in the US. My children and grandchildren enjoy the dances and music, although we don't understand the language it is gateway to my fathers land.

  • I finally learned how to do this dance(at age 37) at a workshop in Toronto, Canada. It is NOT easy but it is a cool thing to have in the knowledge bank.

  • pangit kau...hahahhahahahahaha

  • yeah thats just wrong...whatever "pangit kau" means...lol.

  • when i was in gradeschool, the national dance is already carinosa

but i think tinikling more than the carinosa because it'is more popular than the carinosa and it's fun to watch!

  • Probably if I don't know the inside story behind Olongapo City, I won't have a problem with Carinosa, but since I know I have a problem with it. Think about it what do most women do in OLongapo City do sa mga banyaga?

  • Some critics say that they changed our national dance from Tinikling to Carinosa due to of dancing safety.

  • Tinikling will always be the National Dance to me. Their is more to it than carinosa because the bamboo means something in life to me as well as the dancers. Tinikling reflect the life of all pinoy and pinay as api ng mga banyaga and their mentality towards life itself. Tinikling is a dance how pinoy and pinay survive. It is an art expressing survival sa pang-aapi.

  • Great documentary!! more power!!

  • nice video!! good job guys! =]

  • Tinikling WAS the national dance.. now its CARIÑOSA.. trust me.. i learned when i was still in the Philippines. =]

  • Who the heck said that Carinosa is the PHilippines' national dance? That's new to me.

  • I guess the previous poster went to Wikipedia. Fact is, Tinikling is the 'distinctive' dance that people know and enjoy watching and doing. The Carinosa is just another dance with fans. Tinikling appeals to all ages and has adapted to modern music easily. Kudos to the producers they created a well made short film.

  • i think tinikling is not the Philippine national dance..its CARIÑOSA..correct me if im wrong

  • Beautiful.

  • Credits for rice farmers of the Philippines. Tinikling is wonderful.

  • Great project! I really think tinikling should still be our national dance. Carinosa is way too Spanish. Tinikling has a balance between Spanish and Southeast Asian cultures; Spanish music combined with a native bamboo stick dance.

  • This is my first time to see tinikling after 25 years out of RP. Thanks for your effort to project our culture.

  • BARIO IS THIS SATURDAY XDD

    I'm sooooo excited :]]

Plus my Lola is comming to visit :3

  • That's an awesome short-documentary. Thanks for producing this!

  • I love the video and tinikiling. We did it today in my class. I love my Filipino friends, lumpia too. Thank you for posting.

  • I have seen seen a tinikling-like dance performed by the Chinese in one of their cultural shows on TV.

  • omgsh.. that soo cool. at my school i performed with a buncha people in the filipino club. i got to clap the bamboo sticks!! it was fun (:

  • Do I Mahalkita u? Hell no! Becuz ur ruining sum filipino lives by doing that. No need to correct the pinoys! U kno y? BEcuase we kno our culture!

  • galing galin naman!!!

  • officially, tinikling is not the national dance.. it is supposed to be "carinosa" which is greatly spanish-based.. what bullshit is that???

  • Yeah, why a Spanish based dance? What bullshit is that?

  • The answer is simple. Filipino's culture has a great Hispanic influence. It's part of our identity as Filipinos of today and you can't deny that! Do you think Spanish culture is an original culture? For example, it is generally acknowledged that Flamenco grew out of the unique interplay of native Andalusian, Islamic, Sephardic, and Gypsy cultures that existed in Andalusia prior to and after the Reconquest.

  • What do we have here? This is like saying MY WAY should be our national anthem since American influence is very strong in the Philippines and that is absolutely undeniable. What BS is that? Carinosa my foot!

  • The Philippines should have chosen the traditional/folk dance of the Negritos (Aetas, Atis, etc.) as the national dance. Negritos are the descendants of the original inhabitants of the Philippines, the true owners of the Philippines, and the true Filipinos. The attempts of the Spaniards to settle them in reducciones or reservations all throughout Spanish rule failed. They have the most isolated culture in the Philippines spanning more than 2 thousand years.

  • CORRECTION: They have the most isolated culture in the Philippines spanning more than 30,0000 years. :)

  • There is no need to be an extremist. The national dance should reflect the predominant group which is the Malayo-Polynesian race.

  • And what specific dance would that be?

  • Tinikling, of course.

  • Tinikling is a folk dance of Leyte. Leyte's folk dance does not represent the culture of the majority of the Austronesian people of the Philippines. Leyteño's population is not the majority. We have tons of regional/ethnic folk dances here! To be safe, there should be no Philippine National Dance at all!

  • Tinikling is now loved by the Philippine people from Batanes to Sulu and admired by people around the world. Carinosa? Isn't that just a version of some Mexican, Spanish or Italian folk dance? Tinikling is an indigenous word of the archipelago while Carinosa is something foreign to the islands. The bamboo is of course native to the islands while the hankies are alien.

  • I must concede that we have Spanish influnce, and that is captured by the string instruments. But Tinikling is more representaive of the Filipino culture than Carinosa can ever be!!!!

  • Great Editing job, very nice.

  • There are some Pilipino orgs who choose NOT to put Tinikling in their shows. Reason being that though it's an awesome dance, there are other dances out there from the Igorot, Tribal, Muslim, and Spanish suites. Tinikling and the barrio suite represents only a small facet of our culture. We place a high premium on Tinikling as THE Pilipino dance. If we are concerned about showcasing our culture through dance, why not represent it fully by showcasing other dances?

  • great job! i wanna go back to philz! go the filipinos !

  • We used to dance Tinikling when i was in 4th grade in Phil N i like it YAAAAAH!!!! itaas ntin ang bandila ng pilipinas

  • Tinikling USED TO BE the National Dance of the Philippines. Current National Dance is Cariñosa.

  • JO whats up it's me vanessa from germany!!! yeah it's a really nice documentary:) I'm also from the philippines but i live here in germany:) soo great job..to your video
