Not everyone who stayed home didn't care. I was too young to be drafted but I had a lot of older friends and family who served. My Dad was a WWII vet. And I spent my time trying to get my family/friends back asap and end that disastrous foreign policy. Even in High School I was an activist. And yeah those that came back were changed. Some could readjust others couldn't. But yeah the media and society as a whole tried to shove them down the memory hole.
