Bellamy's are awesome! One of their best. Check out their song "You Ain't Just a Whistlin' Dixie" if you like this one. It's as good -- if not better.
That's what we all had to do when we came back - adjust. Some of us did and some us didn't. No different from earlier wars and the current ones. Just a fact of life. Was that way a thousand years ago and it will be that way a thousand years from now. Those who served know, and those who stayed at home don't really give a shit. Life goes on.
Not everyone who stayed home didn't care. I was too young to be drafted but I had a lot of older friends and family who served. My Dad was a WWII vet. And I spent my time trying to get my family/friends back asap and end that disastrous foreign policy. Even in High School I was an activist. And yeah those that came back were changed. Some could readjust others couldn't. But yeah the media and society as a whole tried to shove them down the memory hole.

@Rangerman9091 Hey man, I was in Nam. My Dad died 10 years ago and he was Navy in WWII I wish he was here but maybe As he viewed me as an old Hippie after I got out of the Navy in '76 I am thinking all those cool guys are all at piece together.
@Rangerman9091 I thank your Dad for what he done for this country...I sorry for how your Dad had to die....But i don't hope he is at peace at all, I hope peace is the farthest from his soul!!! For what he done in Vietnam and the hell he endured.....Shit man he deserves to be having a Fucking Blast with the biggest smile on his face and Joy flowing out of his spirit for the rest of eternity .Rangerman I Thank Your Father With my whole spirit...... Be proud Your Dad is a real Hero!!!!
Well it's that time of year again//Everybody's runnin' round//Decorating everything//Before the fat man comes to town
Meanwhile at the commune//He's getting ready too//He's tye-dying T-shirts//and making love beads just for you//He's trimming up his favorite tree//Tokin' what he grew
Well he's got the 8 track blastin'//Incense burns by candlelight//Gene Autry's singin' "Rudolph"// The Grateful Dead do "Silent Night"//
And he's seen the evening news//And the prospects still look dim//But solutions for the planet//He knows starts right here with him//So he'll visualize //That sacred night and//A world that ain't out on a limb
Yeah, it's an old hippie Christmas//Weather's cold and hearts are warm//Mama smokes the turkey
While daddy smokes the bong//It's an old hippie Christmas//Just full of yuletide fun//Jesus must have been a hippie//Peace and love to everyone
Well the kids makeup their wish list//Sunshine, wants the A bomb banned//Rainbow, wants to go to 'Frisco//In an old Volkswagen van
And the black lights//And the lava lamps//Are flashin' all about //And Santa in his sandals//Leaves us little doubt//That Christmas time is almost here//It's gonna be far-out
you oll hippies dont give it so quick i cut my hair doesnt me i changed my ways jus tryeing to figuer out to get away with more without doing a felony i gus as you say just trying to ajust thanx for the post wish you could get the other hippis on here not tokkin on his bong no more spending more time with the kids looking at the prize an thats rite so rite thanx for everything brothers
The sequel to this song was released in the 90's. It talk about his war and a wall as one of the verses and he hates faxes and cell phones. A great song.
the sequel was added on here in February ....there are actually a total of 4 "old hippie" songs (that I have heard)...the 80's, the 90's, a Christmas version, and Old Hippie III (saved) on their "Jesus is Coming" CD. I loves me some bellamy brothers.
