Kent Hovind has made a career out of distorting facts, as is indicative of the fact that he was eventually locked up for fraud. Seriously though, if I were in such a situation, I would focus on staying alive first. Clasping your hands and closing your eyes are the last things you should do in a life-threatening scenario. Hi Kipp. If God = good, then the absence of God is the absence of good. In English, we use the word 'evil' to describe the absence of good, so in that sense the argument is logical in the mind of someone who presupposes that there is a God, and that God = good. I think the problem is that when you think of 'evil,' you're thinking of 'wicked,' and the idea of empty space being wicked certainly is bizarre. Good video by the way.

Funny, I prefer to live my life as though there is no god, because morality is important. I take care of my family, help others, give to charity, donate blood, and I do so with no expectation of a reward or fear of a punishment. If you behave a certain way because you think a god will send you to hell if you don't, you remove morality from the situation. I live a good life because it's the thing to do. If there is a god, he should accept that. if not, he's not worth believing in.

God doesn't "allow" evil, He condemns it. When people question to why He doesn't do anything about it, I need to say that we were put in this world so that we can be tested, every choice we make is counted. Rape, murder, etc God doesn't allow it, we do this on our own, we are given free will to make our own decisions, when a person steals, he chooses to do it, God doesn't allow it. We are given the books as guidance to make the right decisions so that we DESERVE a pleasant afterlife.

Actually, there is a ton of evidence to support the various models of the big bang theory, much of which theists readily acknowledge. I would encourage you to look into it.
As for having faith in believing in no god, I just think a perfect god would be better than this. God sits by in indifference as e face war, famine and disease, and can stop it at any time, but doesn't. He is more concerned with belief than suffering. Such a god is beneath my belief.

If god is all powerful, then by definition he does not allow anything. He causes it. Nothing can take place without his direct will. He CAUSES rape and murder and all the things he condemns. The master was very angry about this..." and threw the wicked servant into darkness. Seriously though, if I were in such a situation, I would focus on staying alive first. Clasping your hands and closing your eyes are the last things you should do in a life-threatening scenario. I dont beleive in religion, but i beleive in god. Imagine how everything relys on everything else, plants rely on animals, animals rely on plants. Cells are so complex, the human brain is SO complex. Hi Kipp. If God = good, then the absence of God is the absence of good. In English, we use the word 'evil' to describe the absence of good, so in that sense the argument is logical in the mind of someone who presupposes that there is a God, and that God = good. I think the problem is that when you think of 'evil,' you're thinking of 'wicked,' and the idea of empty space being wicked certainly is bizarre. Good video by the way.

Funny, I prefer to live my life as though there is no god, because morality is important. I take care of my family, help others, give to charity, donate blood, and I do so with no expectation of a reward or fear of a punishment. If you behave a certain way because you think a god will send you to hell if you don't, you remove morality from the situation. I live a good life because it's the thing to do. If there is a god, he should accept that. if not, he's not worth believing in.

I have an argument against atheism that I doubt you've heard before. It is due to the great 18th century philosopher George Berkeley.
He argued that material substances - the material realm - is a fiction. We have no experience of it, and can form no conception of it.
All that exists for certain are minds and the ideas contained within them.
But that leaves the apparent orderliness of our sense-perceptions unaccounted for.

I agree that following things blindly (and without proof) is a seriously bad decision... on the part of man. But I have found that consistently following the principles in the Bible keeps me wiser than the ones in the world that love to destroy themselves with dumb behaviors. But what evidence do you have to back up that life is a test. And what is the point of the test? To weed out the bad souls? Why not just not make those souls exist, and alleviate their suffering? Couldn't a perfect god make a perfect world without compromising free will?

Would it make sense to give some students a harder test even if they are not any smarter, and other students an easier test even if they do have a high I.Q.? Well that's the 'test' of life. @sassygrl1731 How does god not do it verbally? He, according to the Christian Bible, talked to many people verbally. Also, I bet you write off every prayer that god doesn't answer as his will. If it's his will then what the fuck is the point of praying? Also, a cancer patient surviving is not a miracle. They were simply stronger. It's called natural selection. I'm an atheist, myself. One reason for this, I refuse to believe in a god that allows a drunk driver to walk away from a crash unscathed.

-a baby (I think 2years old) was picked up into a tornado , traveled miles to another town. After the tornado , there wasn't one scratch in the baby .

no, we were not born just to die ! we were born to surive the almighty god, we were born to learn we were born to teach and if you belive in him and love him he will give you enternial life. people make bad choices and he gives you a choice to worship him or the devil instead. when he comes back people who dont belive in him or love him or worship him are going to have one bad time on earth. you should go talk to a pastor or go to some church. you will learn there... You sound like your reaching out to God. Im here to testify that there is a God and only one true God. One day u will seek him and u will understand why we praise Jehovah . There is a crazy feeling i get when i think about all the things he's done for me and everytime he has come through for me. It makes me smile that through all my bs he always there. God doesn't "allow" evil, He condemns it. When people question to why He doesn't do anything about it, I need to say that we were put in this world so that we can be tested, every choice we make is counted. Rape, murder, etc God doesn't allow it, we do this on our own, we are given free will to make our own decisions, when a person steals, he chooses to do it, God doesn't allow it. We are given the books as guidance to make the right decisions so that we DESERVE a pleasant afterlife.

I respect your views, and thank you for challenging me... however, you are too focused on the "imperfections" around you. There is one God that has created everything. There is no evidence of the Big Bang Theory.... nor is there physical evidence (according to you) of there being a God... however, when God created the world, I believe there was, indeed, a big bang.. But, I will say, it takes more faith to believe that there is no god, than to believe that there is one. Peace brother. Be praying.

Actually, there is a ton of evidence to support the various models of the big bang theory, much of which theists readily acknowledge. I would encourage you to look into it.
As for having faith in believing in no god, I just think a perfect god would be better than this. God sits by in indifference as e face war, famine and disease, and can stop it at any time, but doesn't. He is more concerned with belief than suffering. Such a god is beneath my belief.

Yes, (if there is a god) He allows evil, but on the flip side, does He not also allow good? We are put through trials and sufferings to test our faith. But think, if im right, you go to hell (not meaning to condemn you.) If your right, we both rot in the earth forever.... which seems worse? Riskier?

If god is all powerful, then by definition he does not allow anything. He causes it. Nothing can take place without his direct will. He CAUSES rape and murder and all the things he condemns. Free will? What about the will of the victim. God's direct cause, knowing full well the outcome. I don't want a perfect world, but how about one without pedophile priests? Or cancer? What about the Holocaust. All Jews, remember, that means THEY go to hell. Yeah, god's a real sport, huh?

And speaking of hell, how do you know what's riskier? What if there is a god and it's not your god? What if the Jews were right, and Jesus is a false prophet? What if the Muslims are right, or the Buddhists or the Taoists, or- oh you get the point. And who's to say I can CONTROL what I believe anyway. And why would god care about faith than sincerity? Pascal's wager is the most intellectually bankrupt argument for a god ever, and the fact that you find it the least bit convincing is just sad.

As for god allowing good, don't shortchange the people that make this world better. Everyday, real life heroes fight and die to make our world better. People spend their entire lives as scientists, doctors, firefighters, rescue workers, social workers, people who are REAL. When they die, they die for real, not for three days (which is not a sacrifice BTW) and you're out looking to the sky!
Look around you right here. The good humanity has caused has been in spite of god, not because of him.

@kippmcleodtheheretic It really depends on what you do with that faith... and that's the point of, say, Jesus' story about the wicked servant: "He went and hid his talent in the ground, and did nothing with it. The master was very angry about this..." and threw the wicked servant into darkness. All of us have been given what we need to live, and if we don't use all our resources that we've been given, we'll end up paying for it here or there.

Look at someone who has Proteus Syndrome ("the Elephant Man" John Merrick, for example) and tell me there's a creator who actually knows what he's fucking doing. God cannot explain Proteus Syndrome or any other infliction; evolution can. Darwin looked at a flower, and drew what he thought would be the bird that would drink nectar from that flower. And sure enough he found his bird, complete with a perfectly shaped bill to fit the flower. Would God be that predictable, or knowable? NO.
