It's hard to compare different aircraft at times. I mean in the hands of a Russian pilot the MIG-21 was a great platform. However, in the hands of some third world half-assed trained pilot it was garbage. The same could be said for some American aircraft. I try to be fair, I fail at times but I do try. I'm not going to apologize for loving America. That said I'm kinda partial to the French Mirage.
And you need to re-read my post, the F-16 is smaller, weighs less, and can pull turns in EXCESS of 9 g's...in other words the F-16 can MAKE the pilot black out it turns so fast.With the same top speeds and comparable electronics unless the MiG is undetected and completely surprises the F-16 somehow,the F-16 will win because it is a better dogfighter.The Mig is still a threat wih long range missiles but in a dogfight the Falcon will whip that Mig like a pitbull with a chihuahua
@Runol1st If you can find any US fighter pilot who would rather fly Russian crap in combat I would like tov meet him/her, if they are allowed visitors. Russian aircraft are crap, their nuke subs are crap, their space craft are crap, their field armor and artillery is crap. Everything they have ever produced is third rate crap. The only reason we lost aircraft in air to air in vietnam was because US ROI was visual. And that visual was usually migs turning tail.

@spacecop67 Maybe it is because they were totally relying on ground control and not "allowed" to think for them selves when they were in the air. The pilots creativeness were restricteed by that perhaps. Unlike Israeli pilots who are given a task and then it´s more or less up to themselves how they will solve the asignment. They are forced to think and take their own decsicions in the air! Not from the ground.
@Badger071 That has been the arguement for the Soviet doctrine reallying on ground control to call the engagements. reallying more on there sam network, in conjuction with aircraft it seems to some degree its resulted in a lot of air losses to US Airforce who then created the well known fighter school.AS the USA even stated the air losses in Vietnam created crisses.Losses in aircraft were unacceptable..I think if you still go out in jungle in Vietnam you will find Shot down US aircraft..

I think how better the MiG-21 could have been if had have the look of Ye-8 prototype, with air intake and canards as in Typhoon. I would keep the bigger fuel capability of SMT version, A-144 Analog wings, CFTs and double underwing hardpoints to AAMs. Try to imagine this machine today, with the engine, the AESA radar, REVO probe and IRST system as is fitted the MiG-35, surely would be a hard foe to the 4.5 generation fighters of today.
@LeoAndRas About Mig 35, I am not sure. Soviets made some amazing things because they invested heavily in the production of arms to counter west. No more Soviets, no more Cold War and no money to make such masterpieces.
Mig 35 is one of the weakest of 4.5 gen if not the weakest.

@surfgodx no, mig 21 with upgrades of say 4th or 4+generation such as new radar systems, engine upgrades or retrofits, avionics is more then capable to blow up F16 or MiG29. Though Mig 29 has several advantages such as dual powerplants and other characteristics such as manuvreability etc... i've seen MiG21 hold their own with F16, Jas Gripens, If i'm not mistaken i think that Czech AF has upgraded MiG21 and they are capable of taking any task. Again depends what upgrades are there.

In real life the Israelis have shot down something ridiculous like 300 Mig-21s since 1970 and that was using old Mirages and F-4s. Since the Isrealis aquired F-16s in the 80's I don't think they have lost a single F-16 to MiGs

@surfgodx 300? please... yes israelis did have alot of sucess against arabs etc who used MiG's. You have to understand that Israeli AF was better equipped, had better trained pilots, and had most modern up to date technology. MiG21 from 1970 and upgraded MiG21 from 2005 are not the same machines buddy. Same as MiG29 from 1975 is not the same as MiG from 2008 (OVT-35) etc. You strip every modern jet and you get an airframe which is no better then 4th gen frame.
@surfgodx Frame is a frame, sure there are new engines,radar, weapons, avionics, which if you upgrade onto old MiG21 frame which is a good frame you have a new jet... if old mig could launch a missile up to say 7km you put in new gen radar and weaponsystems which now extend range up to 70km.. this plane becomes viable again as is with any other plane. Problem with this is that it could get more expensive to upgrade then to produce entirely new plane.

Hello, I have 2 questions of this Czech Mig-21, is this plane has a overall light grey colour, is that a standard colour of all Czech Mig-21?
Secondly, is there the Czech signs (round circle with red white and blue) at the bottom side of the main wings?
