  • WTF happens at about 40 minutes in?!?!? What is is the topic of this panel discussion supposed to be again?

  • Why are the audience laughing AT EVERYTHING? Are they on laughng gas? :-/

  • The wages of sin is death... and God showed it to us(remember the Trinity doctrine.. Christ is God incarnate!) Just like Homer showing Bart the consiquences of being a "daredevil".... my favourite episode of that tv show.

  • @UnitedKingdomify

    You point is?

By that reckoning every parent should be responsible everytime their children do evil deeds like murder. Your logic is flawed. Yes there's some responsibility but ultimately it's the kid's choice weather he does right or wrong. And I'm sure you've seen "Bart the Daredevil" and understand that sometimes to teach kids right and wrong you must be the example yourself. You must show the kid the consiquences.

  • Patrick McGorry says he's a realist and doesn't care about religion, God and philosophy compared to more mundane issues and got a round of applause. Patrick, the topic is "God, Philosophy, religion", you fuck-head.

  • Hahaha 12:30 "Do you ever question if god exists"

    "no"

Hard to have credibility after that.

  • Steve Fielding - Cunt

  • Politicians are shit cunts. they keep dodging, deflecting, roundabouting questions. Useless!

  • Whenever I feel I’m surrounded by idiots, and that my intelligence is in a league of its own, I watch a show featuring Richard Dawkins. It humbles me!...

However, even as intelligent as Richard is, he might suffer from a bit of social retardation if he can’t see that his choice of words, and the way he expresses them, sometimes mock other peoples’ views.

  • @SolarMichael If people don't like their views being mocked maybe they should choose their views more carefully.

  • @Jestlow. Soooooo... let me see if I understand you correctly. You're telling me that I should choose my views according to the level of mockery I'll get from them???!!!

I strongly agree with Dawkins, but my comment was related to Tony Burke's point at 36:00. Noone likes to be mocked, and there'll be people mocking your views no matter what they are.

Dawkins either won't admit, or can't see, that he's using a mocking tone. He is! In an intellectual discussion, it's uncalled for.

  • The audience is pretty awesome

  • i agree that without the imaginary God people can still be moral. I particularly hate the idea of creation and the God, how could people be so stupid?

  • God is ultimately responsible for the sins of humanity. lol He takes no responsibility, and sending your son (yourself) to be tortured and sacrificed isn't an admirable thing to do. You'd think an almighty God could do it without the bloodshed.

  • 36:01 "If you go back over the words, once you stated it, you did then ridicule it..."

    No, no he really didn't.

As you can see here 34:08

  • just sat through the whole thing, no i am ashamed that in Australia we are represented by religious people, Richard Dawkins or another mentally sane person should run for government

  • 25:50, glasses off, shit just got serious

  • 1:05, sister didnt withdraw because of ill health, u heard Richard Dawkins was going to be on the show and knew there was nothing she could say

  • @holmlllll  that was my thought too XD

  • "respect my beliefs"

You believe that I deserve to go to hell, to burn, and be tortured, forever and ever and ever. Not because I've hurt anyone, just because I don't think the same way as you.

As far as "respecting your beliefs" goes. FUCK YOU!!!

  • It's only when the religious believers (rabbi excluded) are backed into a corner that they start chanting about respect and tolerance… how typical

  • It Looks like they Tossed a Lion into a Sheep's Den.

  • @Forgarr

    NICE LINE!

  • I think its a disgrace that philosophy is not taught in schools. The stupidity that arises from individuals having no understanding of basic logic, and no sense of the connection between Plato, Aristotle, and Christianity, just amazes me. Seriously, teach a short course with a quick run through of the history of philosophy and it would clear up a lot of unnecessary confusion on subjects such as ethics, metaphysics, and the numinous - all of which are deliberately obscured by religious imagery.

  • There may not be an afterlife (as in, I don't believe it exists), therefore it is futile to hope for it. However, it would be something I would like, as long as I can at least control what it's going to be like. First thing: more resources than needs. And no ageing beyond 25 or so.

  • Well, I'm glad i don't have to see Dawkins in the afterlife.

  • @NorthNorth2009 u eat my pee pie

  • I bet Dawkins and the Rabi shared an Australian kiss after the debate. (it's like a French kiss but DOWN UNDA)

  • Son of a bitch question dodging politicians. fuuuuuuuark...

  • When they were all ganging up on Dawkins saying he's being disrespectful and all that, I had Christopher Hitchens in the back of my head just rolling his eyes and moaning, "oh god stop feeling so sorry for yourself...."

  • all religion is dangerous. why? its not solely because of its doctrines in all the different religions, because some may be violent, some may be extreme passivism, but because ALL religion requires biased collectivism, suspension of both critical thinking and rational relative logic. Religious, and even non-religious people sometimes, allow absolute bullshit to pass as respectable ideology simply because so many people are deluded by a book.

  • wow. the other members of the panel are actually thinking at the level of a 12 year old. i think in my early years of high school i would have written essays using the same strength of argument.

  • Have you ever heard of an Atheist nut, No.

  • I hate it when people pronounce evolution as EVILution because it make it sound like bad harmful thing.

  • @Bayzz2 They pronounce it that way because of their accents, I don't think they're doing it because they think evolution's wrong.

  • parliamentarian guy needs to ball up and just say what he thinks! damn!

  • lol the title is wrong, it's not QNA it's Q and A

  • What a balanced panel. 1 atheist and 5 idiots.

  • @KalleVarta really? Tony Burke, Rabbi Ninio, and Prof. Patrick McGorry (Australian of the Year for his studies and work on youth mental health) are all idiots? Fielding and Bishop, yes, those two are idiots, but I'd love to see you justify how you think you're intellectually superior to the first three panelists.

  • @KalleVarta

It's funny though because Dawkins wiped the floor with all of them. Imagine if any other of the four horsemen atheism were on the panel with him. These people would get murdered intellectually.

  • @KalleVarta but Dawkins clearly owned the debate

  • Tony Burke pious cunt.

  • Poor Richard to have to share the panel with a bunch of dumb fuck convicts.

  • Fielding duh duh

  • that Fielding is a few bob short!

  • these people just don't understand that their views ARE extreme and deluded thus you will have deal with extreme and harsh critisism

  • he wipes the floor with them, it's great

  • How does Dawkins head not explode talking to these people

  • They should've had someone of the Islamic faith on the show also, considering it's one of the most popular religions in the world.

  • Where the fuck is Dawkins looking at during the answering of the question about absolute morality at around 27:00 ??

  • @Gyohdon The audience..

  • @ZF1000 Because the audience is hanging from the ceiling obviously.

  • @Gyohdon or sitting on a stand..

  • @ZF1000 But the person that asked him the question and the people next to him aren't.

He just looks as if he's talking to the ceiling. And it's only for those few minutes, in the rest of the video he's clearly looking at people.

  • @Gyohdon He's probably just thinking hard about what he has to say.

  • @ZF1000 If you talk about religion as much as Richard Dawkins, thinking hard about frequently asked questions isn't really required.

Why are we having this discussion by the way?

  • When you have to say that people should "respect" your views by remaining silent, or attenuating their honest opinion, you are showing intolerence for their's. And you're being shown for the mental midget that you are. Religious people (the superstitious) hide behind this every time. Mostly because they are offended that their religion is being justly ridiculed for it's absurdity.

  • oh god Feilding is going to get eaten alive..hahaha

  • lol dawkins schools these idiots

  • at around 26:00 when Dawkins took of his glasses... You could tell shit was about to go down.

  • I wish Dawkins was the only panel guest...I just want to hear him talk ...all the other panel members are intellectual fodder for Dawkins.

  • @PercivalHoward Him talking is less entertaining than him schooling people

  • At 37:00 he said something that really upset Dawkins but then Dawkins was unterupted. What did h say to Dawkins? I didnt get that!!

  • 28:20 why did that guy go there? He just keeps saying he doesn't want to go there...HEY BUDDY, YOU AGREED TO BE ON A DEBATE ABOUT RELIGION SO STOP SAYING YOU DIDN'T EXPECT IT OR YOU DON'T WANT TO GO THERE. As for that senator in the black suit, the same thing goes for him. He just keep repeating himself. Yes, we all know people should decide for themselves...you have nothing else to say? You know why those two people keep saying things like that? It's because their inner cowardice comes out.

  • 5:50 she's actually fairly attractive. As a Rabbi doesn't she know about Exodus 21:7 in which it tells people that you can sell your daughter into slavery. I wonder how much her sexy behind would fetch on the open market.

  • I can't stand it when genuinely nice people say "God bless you" because I never really know how to truly express myself without offending them. The other day a homeless man was outside the store & I thought, "Why waste money on something I don't need?" So, I gave the man $10. He said, "God bless you". I didn't want to be a dick so I just left but it pissed me off...I wanted to say, "FUCK GOD, you're homeless! What fucked up God let's millions of people die every day out of hunger & no shelter!"

  • fat bird eating at 11:31

  • People of Australia please vote out this politcian out of office because he is an embrassment to your great country.

  • I am a bit dissapointed when McGorry diverts the hardline debate by stating the ol' chestnut "I'm a person of the real world". It's as bad as when Fielding says he's proud to be an Australian and uses it as an argument point.

  • Why did Fielding even go if he didn't plan on sharing a single one of his views. He just treats it like a political debate and dodges every question with some PC "everyone can have there own beliefs" bullshit.

  • we need to do a better census that is as confronting as those questions to fielding.

i answered Christian on the last one purely because i didn't know what an atheist was. i think they would find the results very interesting

  • Comment removed

  • You need to respect people, no their beliefs. You shouldn't be affraid to insult an ideology, it can't hear you.

  • Dawkins..kicks ass...=)

  • smart audience, they realize he is dodging the question in favor of a politically correct response

    kudos!

  • @cappadinoceo Australia is a great progressive country. :)

    cheers from Canada

  • look at the dawk rip these fools apart.

  • Why shouldn't we ridicule it, it's ridiculous! They ridicule our atheism and refuse to accept scientific fact, simply because they don't understand it. How can they say evolution is 'ridiculous' when their own beliefs include a cosmic jewish zombie that rose from the dead who told everyone to symbolically eat his flesh, and a celestial dictator that doesn't stop unending suffering and tragedy, but cares about whether you have a new car?

  • im seeing faraz nomanis head pop up everywhere and I don't even live in australia!

  • Richard and Patrick = stating the facts.

Rabbi Jaqueline = Good ol' jew. Interprets her religion as a guide and applies it to her reality. Stays clear of the facts that collides with her faith.

Steve and Julie = brownnosing politicians trying to please their potential electorate (= everyone).

  • dawkins is badass.

  • its pretty unfair how everyone there is theistic while only Dawkins is a theist but he can hold his own against those nut jobs.

  • A retarded monkey could argue for creationism better than these idiots.

  • Yeah, he ridiculed it - because it's RIDICULOUS.

  • fielding , what a joke , numpty

  • lol if you watch richard you can see him just cringing in his seat when the one aussie guy speaks

  • Fielding is a true politician. Answering a question without actually answering the question. grow some balls and stand up for what u say u believe in

  • Will someone please explain to me why the Minister of Agriculture is on this panel?

  • Australian doesnt seem to have good philosophical knowledge, Dawking is totally ruling the conversation .

  • @MrSuman1987 your right the bible never says that the world is 10,000 yr old it never gives a date it does say that god created a world and realized that something was missing so he created man it never says OOHHH GOD CREATED EARTH IN 7990 BC and it never says man and the world were created at the same time. all though a day 4 man is 24 HR thats what we say a day is 4 us what about god who knows how much a day much less a year is 4 him....

  • @MrSuman1987 because that's not there area, you can't judge a place on people who's area is something else

  • I created the world inclusive universe and all. WORSHIP ME!!!

  • @Thastorcyclone

idiot, where did u get this 4rm? i am quite sure on cultist christian propoganda websites & news networks.

asshole, islam is unlike christianity & that's the reason millions in africa r muslim not christian.

go & ask the native ppl of america, australia, colonial countries & see what will hit u on ur dirty face- christain terrorism all round.6 million jews were massacared by christians & slave trade was funded, carried out by christian terrorists.

  • @satanischristian Funny how you bastards fight among yourselves when you guys literally worship the same god. If Christianity is flawed, islam is flawed is aswell and in my opinion both a flawed.

The quran does support slave trade by the way and the killing of the non-believers...SO FUCK MUHAMMAD AND HIS FAIRY TALE....and fuck the bible too!!!

  • @nighrage right on...shit on them all.

all religion indicates a mental illness in anyone that espouses it!

    metaphysics is all bullshit!

  • @nighrage great comment

  • Jesus = Osiris

  • My God, Australians are so fuckin dumb!

  • @sameer137 You MUST be a yank, can´t be anything else.

  • Once again when out of arguments the religiou cry about respect. They should learn that respect is something that you have to earn and that they're not entitled to it just because they believe in fairytales. THAT is something I for my part just cannot pay any respect to.

  • Not being an Australian, I can't understand how this panel was put together. I think Dawkings is just way too strong willed and concise compared to the rest. Most the others seem way too 'wishy-washy', they have no firm opinion because they are so caught up in politics they are too afraid to speak their mind. In this discussion someone like Dawkings can run circles around them (whether he is right or not). That Rabbi manages to speak a long time and say absolutely nothing.

  • damn that jew is sort of hot

  • The Rabbi could be Tim Minchin's sister.

  • google astrotheology

  • Am I wrong for not wanting the audience to clap after everything Dawkins says? I like Dawkins most of all, but I certainly wouldn't clap over EVERYTHING he says.

  • This is stupid. Yes mirco evolution is scientific, but macro evolution....I wouldn't say it is. It isn't empirical, and science satisfies the the 5 senses. I think it is as straight forward as that. It doesn't need to get more complicated. - PS: The man sitting next to Dawkins isn't a Christian, if you are not convicted to share the Gospel, they probably aren't Christians. His opinions are flimsy whereas Dawkins is solid and straight forward.

  • Comment removed

  • Dawkins is brilliant as always @ 21:55

And funny how the rabbi's face changed @ 22:04

    =D

  • I think Tony Burke was right to say that what we need is more respect in this arena of debate. Respect from the religious people for each other and towards non believers and vice versa.

  • It's so refreshing to see an audience laughing and ridiculing that ridiculous creationist. As an American, I'm not used to seeing religious people having to apologize for their insanity, and being embarrassed by it. It's the other way around here, and it's quite depressing.

It is good to know that the rest of the world is not as fucked up as we are.

  • @fazzamin Yes but religion as a definition is deeply flawed

  • @fazzamin

Okay Sorry, ALL RELIGIONS ARE FLAWED.

Islam is MORE worse than Christianity btw.

seems like many people critisize christianity but when it comes to islam, Theres big silence, Let me land some criticism and facts for you.

Muhammed: Slave owner, Murderer ( Ordered 8 Political murders, Beheaded HIM SELF 800 jews in saudi arabi, Mugged Caravans)

Very evil man as founder of religion, ULTRA EVIL religion.

  • @Thastorcyclone

    idiot,

what was moses, david, solomaon according 2 bible all of them were mass murderers, rapist & massacred millions of innocent ppl even donkeys.if it was not for the quranic teachings this prophets of GOD will never b accepted as prophets.even jesus in his second coming will b a mass murderer & genocider according 2 the new testament.christians believe that GOD of the old testament was jesus & he was the one who ordered mass murders, slavery & genocide of innocent ppl & donkeys.

  • @satanischristian

no christians believes im this anymore, muslims still follow quran literally. And take theyr religion seriously, we laugh at our religious people.

  • @satanischristian shit on them all.

all religion indicates a mental illness in anyone that espouses it!

    metaphysics is all bullshit!

  • @fazzamin so which religions concept of creationism gives the most accurate explanation for origin of life? VERY CURIOUS...

  • @fazzamin yes it does

  • @fazzamin Well they are, because they are founded on lies and superstition.

  • @fazzamin

All religion? you're right, not all of it is terrible. However, all of the major, structured religions, as I far as I've seen, are corrupt and, in my eyes, evil. This of course isn't to say that everyone who involves themselves with them is evil, but the leaders of the organisations, and the principles for which they stand, are cruel people.

  • @fazzamin ANY absolutist views are inherently flawed.

  • Bloody politicians are slippery dishonest disingenuous fuckers.

That's why it's easy for politicians to be creationists, they can easily lie to themselves

  • <3 Dawkins

  • ... same old story ... religious people are confronted ... and they crumble ... and then simply look smug as they are made to look foolish.

And then... when they've completely lost... they cry " disrespect ".

  • "people evolving from other types of animals"

No creationist ever considers humans a member of the animal kingdom (despite the fact that we are, OF COURSE).

He's playing to the choir a bit, 'eh

  • I love how Fielding is too embarrassed to admit he's a young Earth creationist.

  • @drunkrtard Seems like a strange guy anyways, like he doesn't really know where he is most the time.

  • Christianity is Insanity! Creationism makes idiots of them all.

  • - but when things turn sour their story changes to fit what they would like to believe. Believers say they worship Jesus, but really only do when they win something or need something, and laugh at ancient Pagan Gods, obviously they don't know that their religion is based off ancient Pagan religions. Brains are meant to be gullible and believe in things that may not exist, it's how we survived, unfortunately that trait has morphed into - faith over science, and that's terrible.

  • @JeanLouie1106 Unfortunately that is the view that Zeitgest is pushing. But it is not true. It is also common that people confuse Christianity with Catholicism. While they are two different things. Catholicism is a pagan religion in disguise. They are using terms from Bible, but the teachings are indeed ancient mother-son and sun worship.

Real Christianity is not those things. In fact The Bible clearly forbids things that Cathilicism has done. The Bible has also prophecised about these things.

  • They say there are more than 600 fulfilled prophecies in The Bible. I haven't checked if that is true. But anyone can go and read the book of Daniel. It was written 2500 y.a. and it has correclty prophecised the world history. Before you tell me it was corrupted later, google for dead sea scrolls. Book of Daniel states that it was sealed for end times and indeed these propecies were undestood only on 19th century. But those scrolls prove that propecies were there before Jesus lived.

  • @tokintmash That does not make them true.

  • @drunkrtard What does not make what true?

  • Comment removed

  • @tokintmash Of course Catholicism is Christianity, it was the only Christian church for hundreds of years. All other Christian sects have broken off Catholicism or from a sect that all ready had because they cherry pick what they want to believe.

  • @drunkrtard Catholic church has changed 10 commandments. They have removed the second commandment that forbids idol worship. Because they are idol worshippers. They have changed sabbath law and made it into a sunday law. They have created Chrsitmas which has nothing to do with Bible. These are all pagan traditions. They also teach that Jesus dies so we can become gods. That is why we were thrown out of heaven in the first place.

  • Catholic church is also behind the soon coming sunday law, which will first be a day off but later will be forced to everyone as a day of worship. The Bible has prophecised about all this. And Catholic chuch has done all that antichrist would do in Bible prophecies.

There is a good 30 min video about these things:

Go to amazing discoveries site, click on ADTV, then click on Media and the search for a video called "in place of God"

  • I think people, namely religious people will always believe what they simple 'want' to believe, and not pay attention to the fine details of what they say they believe. For instance blondie wants an afterlife, and is Christian, but doesn't imagine an afterlife with angels...which is Christian, if she calls herself Christian then she'll most likely end up in hell for all the rules in the bible she's broken -

  • @JeanLouie1106 All people defend their position. It's natural. I undersand your position too. I was an atheist a year ago. I didn't turn because I wanted to. I turned because I saw overwhelming evidence that contradict with evolution.

Google for Evolution Handbook for example. Read it and try to think outside of the box. If you do that you will see that it makes much more sense and is as scientific as the stuff you want to believe. Btw. In sciense the simpler explanation is usually true.

  • Go Dawkins!

  • Look at everything around you including yourself and the universe:

if you fin these three attributes in each one of then then God exists: 1.limited (in finite sense) 2. dependant on something 3. did not create itself

Then how did anything come into being ie how are we here now.

therefore theremust have been an unlimited entity, who is independant of all things and who was not created.

    peace

  • @dondidlion123

Premise two and three are entirely unfounded. Would you mind supporting them?

  • Well done brother Fazzamin for your presence and input towards Message!

  • Richard Dawkins thinks that God's act of self-sacrifice is a horrible depraved notion, yet bases his whole world-view on evolutionary theory which fundamentally requires 'survival of the fittest' ie. death of the weakest.

Wouldn't Dawkins's concern for the welfare of malnourished, mentally-ill humans contradict his belief that a cruel and selfish struggle for survival (at the expense of the weak and defenceless) developed us into beings of superior intelligence?

  • You clearly don't understand the function of science: science is in the business of determining what is, not what we would like things to be.

No, his concern over the suffering of humans doesn't contradict the fact that humans have suffered; the former depends on the latter having occurred in the first instance. It would be rather silly of him to have concern over something if it weren't happening. Say, like concern over people turning into cheese.

  • I understand what the function of science is. You may also be surprised to know that most religious people didnt make up their beliefs because it is "what they would like things to be" either. They generally genuinely believe it is true.

    My question is:

If we are the result of a selfish dog-eat-dog rat-race, at what point and how did 'concern for others' come into being?

What do we call the business of determining what we would like things to be? Ideoligy?

  • Clearly, this is false. But I suppose I'll leave it as an exercise for the readers to go into the churches and ask who there wants god to be a different god. People adhere themselves to beliefs which they like. To the extent there are parts of christianity the faithful dislike, they ignore it. I don't see many kosher christians running around wearing clothes from but one fabric while not on their way to work on Saturday.

  • This is a gross missunderstanding of Christianity. The book of Romans will explain this for you :-)

  • So, to the extent that you believe what the bible tells you, you ignore certain parts in favor of different parts. The ten commandments which get paraded about are unambiguous that one should remember the sabbath and keep it holy. Leviticus is unambiguous about eating shellfish (the same class of sin as being gay apparently).

  • You are showing a profound misunderstanding of evolutionary theory. The impetus to behave generally good to one's neighbors in social creatures has a rather built in survival value: undercut your family by stealing from them, or harming the general welfare of the small society gets one shunned. Animals alone survive less well than animals in groups. Thus, selection will favor the animals which can work well with one another. So, the concern for others helps our own survival. QED.

  • to a degree

  • Yes, it is to a degree. In this case the degree is no less petty than life and death. Anything which can either server to cause death or prevent is all that selection pressures require to cull the herd. Animals which have a greater risk of death have a reduced chance to propagate their genes; animals which have a better chance to survive than those, have a greater likelihood of perpetuating their genes.

  • @Tbird65

We are not quite as 'dog eat dog' as you postulate. Our society has, to a certain extent, transcended the natural selection process in that we often look after or weak. This foresight and empathy stems from our intellect - a capacity not well shared by our animal counterparts.

  • I would like to add to this a simple yet important question: How come we blush?

It is suggested that it's a cause of natural selection. That in ancient times honest people were honored and were picked as mates. When would that have been if we come from brutal cave men? It does not make sense.

  • Evolutionary biologists think that blushing encouraged honesty and fidelity in relationships. I am not sure how this was directly advantageous, I need to do more research.

  • @tokintmash

wow! just coz we blush god exists??

    fail!

  • @tokintmash evolution is happening all the time. in fact the word evolution means change over time. so when people mate with certain people with specific features the offspring are going to have those features and so on. basically what i'm saying is if having large teeth is considered attractive then in the future people are going to have slightly larger teeth than now. regardless no one knows why we blush, i was just giving you examples of how evolution works.

  • @NorseRonin Yes. You are talking about micro evolution. Noone argues against that. Although even micro evolution can not explain blushing because it does not make sense. Blushing is not advantageous. If we come from cave man then poor liers should have been all killed during evolution of our species and our moral should be something completely different.

And what you just said was basically - we are here, therefore it's possible. But can I use that for proving God? No. So let's be consistent.
