just because something isn't technically demanding doesn't mean its not good. I'm a huge fan of technical/brutal death metal, I was first alerted to matt because of his intense playing abilities, but if all he ever did was make guitar solos...he would die away pretty damn quick. Its all about the groove and the feel my friends, not about retarded technical ability.
