i remember when i was a kid 35 yrs ago.. watching this man at his house rehearsing and practicing with his other musician friends.. I was always amazed with the zylophone..lol His Son and i were buddys.. 1 of the best dudes in my young life!
so lucky to play my first gig in nyc with billy hart on drums.. he flew back from europe and played the gig with an unknown flutist ..great spirit.... great drummer ..:) and listener --rhscheryl -flutist nyc
Billy Hart needs more recognition for his immense inspiration, both to fans and music lovers and to musicians throughout the last 45 years. I love him as a friend and mentor, drummer and composer, and person.
He made the drums sound like a subway ride (as if you were listening to the sounds from inside the carriage as someone had composed and then performed it). The train slowly speeds up racketing along to a steady tempo, then slows down, a rumbling can be heard as New Yorkers bustle and clamber out of the carriage. Then the momentum of the train speeds up again, the clacking of the steel wheels on the joints between the tracks can be heard at random intervals. The speed winds down to a halt again

I used to watch Billy in the Fat Cat with Ethan Iverson and Ben Street, unbelievable musician, he played a subway ride for an introduction one night.
