Reminds me of a similar situation involving my husband and Motorhead. (In the end, I got him there though we had to drive 200 miles to do it.) JD is a great guy, indeed, and a helluvan artist. SO glad it all worked for you in the end! My heart would have been broken if you hadn't gotten to see him.
