yeah...mick tucker was the shit...total maniac drummer...the sweet period were an amazing band...they got me thru my teen years...and i still can't hear enough of them...class stuff...bands like this will never come around again sadly.
great song! and good example of the bands leanings toward hard rock/metal as the glam scene wore out! nothing wrong with that. they seem like they wanted to go that route for more respect. and they deserve it! Damn shame about Brian. Truly a prototype for Robin Sander and others. We miss you bud.
some body reported this as having ......bad thing's!fuck.i can't post to freind's because somebody said it has bad content! facebook! fuck you. now there's bad content! fuck off and die!~
I´m from Brazil and I´m 46. this is the first time I see The great Sweet. They were part of my life, and I could not understand how only 4 guys could make so incredible vocals like that.
Its time that people owned up that the bulk of that so called uk Glam rock scene was total crap, the real exception to all that other nonsence were THE SWEET,who really could rock it up live,(when given the chance)an amazing underated band. This material still sounds as good today as it did in the 1970s.
I just noticed that comment from 3 weeks ago referring to Brian and the "Taggart" actor as brothers. According to Wikipedia, they were nothing more than "foster-cousins", i.e. Brian`s foster-father was the uncle of the Taggart actor(Mark McManus).
I agree with Andy Scott(in the sleevenotes to the Desolation Boulevard CD) that this is the best of the Chinn/Chapman compositions for Sweet. I first heard it when I was 8, back in 1974 - I loved the song then, and still love it.
Brian sang background in concert but not to a great extent, just on the choruses and melodies that really needed 3 voices. Clearly they made a decision that trying to re-create those operatic harmonies in concert wasn't going to happen. Sweet definitely had other thoughts and all 4 of them are in there hitting the notes on this one.
i know on alot of the more intricate songs (Killer Queen for example) they skip alot of the background harmonies, but check out simpler songs like Fat Bottomed Girls (check out Milton Keynes 1982) and Father to Son (try Rainbow 1974) for some cool 3 part harmonies.
but i doubt anyone really expected them to pull off stuff like March of the Black Queen and Bohemian Rhapsody live...
I'm 40 now, and I've known of them since ~1977 when my older sis had the "Little Willy" 45 -- This had been my favorite from them until I heard Alexander Graham Bell and Poppa Joe last year -- Awesome stuff
No actually sweets vocal form predated Queen by two yeears..but then again the early incarnation of Queen was the band Smile which was Queen less Mercury and Deacon and with Tim Staffell as lead vocals did sound alot like Sweet or vice versa...
very true, I remember hearing Queen on the radio for the first time, and I thought it was the Sweet's new single. This is a great performance by the way.
Im enjoyin this band as much as the next sweet fan, but i will say as a singer myself that the harmonies at least are very much not live, you dont need to be an expert. no singer/vocalist will sing with a piece of gum in his mouth. granted they had an excellent range, but its obvious Bri' is the only guy singin here and look closely...he aint chewin gum.
the guys have classic vocal range but it is most certainly not demonstrated in this video.
Half-live in that obviously the vocal harmonies are not coming only from the four guys on the stage. You don't get that wall of sound from a couple of dudes chewing gum and lazily moving their lips far from their mikes.
Actually, the harmonies are coming from those four lads - it was an amazing range - the only band that I know of that had that vocal range. That , along with the amazing musicianship made Sweet one of the very best bands in history, and also most likely ,underrated bands. I think listeners and critics focussed on the glitz image and missed the point completely - they were brilliant - addictive hooks and harmonies - you cannot tire of hearing this stuff, 30 plus years later !
WHAT a STRING of Classic Hits, just ADD THEM UP!! A post on a dif vid said: "One of the Most Underrated Bands of All Time"... I MUST concur,Wholeheartedly. Most people don't even know it's them when they hear these old HITS,and they were (Stiil ARE) HITS!!!
Woaw man... these chaps could really sing and play their instruments. Totally unbeatable in their genre. Who can do this kinda performance nowadays? Please tell me where to find. I'd love to experience that. Sweet is definately #1 to me! Cheers!
Checking out the other live stuff of theirs on youtube I'd have to agree with you, they don't need help with the vocals. However i did notice you can hear an acoustic guitar here in addition to the electric Andy is playing.
Fine (half-live) Version! I saw themn original in 78, met the rest in 79 and felt the shame in the 90ties, when I saw the "Solo"-Projects of Andy and Brian.

There are NO vocal enhancements. Except for the acoutstic track at the very start, this recording is completely live.

Yeas, it's true. It's completely live, and in their live gigs the acoustic guitar was also mixed in.
Thumbs up if you think glamrock is the very best!
