  • I have to say clay is amazing and its 2012 and still lovennn him plus come on ccute right ! I LOVE YOUHH CLAY HUGE FAN no creeper !

  • Phenomenal!

  • ytou win the solitaire

  • AMAZING!!!

  • RENE ANGELIL PLEASE MANAGE CLAY AIKEN'S CAREER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Celebrity Apprentice will ruin his career!

  • I swear, singers have become the heroes of America. People practically worship those with voices like this. Choosing "Idol" as the title of the show is no mistake. Don't get me wrong, I think he is amazing. Just commenting on the exalted place that vocalists have in society.

  • @ytcarol Music from ALL GENRE"S is what calms us, warms us, heals us, speaks for us and speaks to us, makes us think, sometimes helps us heal and rationalize, makes us cry and laugh and remember and move on. Emotions are endless in music and if you enoy a particular genre then you have found comfort. You are only hurting yourself to think of IDOL as someone associated with SPIRITUALITY. This is a music "Idol" only and NOT the worship of religious beliefs. Relax and have fun.

  • @bigmamatofive I agree with your comments and utterly love music for all the reasons you state. I guess I sounded a bit obsessive. You put it into perspective nicely. Best.

  • This guy is beyond belief! Best I've ever heard. Anywhere!

  • amazing voice, gorgeous~~~

  • no other version of this song will rival the carpenters ever .

  • Also.... he is gorgeous!

  • I will always be in love with Clay Aiken!

  • Elvis would be proud!

  • @62Elvis Agreed! Elvis would be proud. Nothing else needs to be said.

  • amazing sound, nice video, congratulations

  • Damn, that dude has some pipes!!

  • <3 simple amazing.

  • @josbo51715 Neil Sedaka, the writer of the song cried when Clay sang this. Clay sang this song on season 2 and Sedaka was guest judging. Neil told Clay this, 'Bravo Clay, I have lost my song forever to you.. it will always be a Clay Aiken song" So the legend that wrote this song thought he it sounds better than any other version. Just thought I'd tell you that.

  • @ClayTakeover I still don't like it.

  • @ClayTakeover Thanks for your info! Could you please tell me where I can find that show? I'd really appreciate it. Where is Clay now? I heard someone beat him out. I find that impossible to believe, since he's the best males singer I've ever heard, bar none. What could they (the Judges) be thinking???

  • @ClayTakeover This was one of the very few episodes of Idol I ever watched. I loved this version, his voice is amazing. I remember Neil Sedaka told him at judgement time, that he now owned the song. He was that impressed!

  • amazing, he should have won !!!!

  • Every time I see this, I'm amazed at his voice. And he still has that voice today, too. He sang the theme from Love Story at his Tried and True tour this past Feb. & Mar. Took my breath away. His "Home" from Broadway Backwards is also fantastic. No voice like his around today, IMO.

  • love his voice, but I hated this rendition of Solitaire

Typical American Idol production tho, they over - produce almost all songs.

  • @dealingdivas and @clayskater123 thank you for the information on Clay.

  • OMG, the man is golden all these years later.

  • @MegaDiane...Clay has had 11 tours in 8 years, starred on Broadway, just had a guest acting role in Drop Dead Diva and 6 months ago sang the National Anthem at the NHL All-Star Game.....also as an Ambassador for UNICEF, he has been very busy!!

  • Love this

  • Where is Clay now? I love his voice.

  • @MegaDianal Clay has been so busy - he starred on Broadway, had a baby who just turned 3, put out a cool album last year called TIRED AND TRUE.

  • she choppin' broccoli in solitaire, she's choppin' uoh!

  • "I have always said, and I will continue to say it.. not only the best male singer American Idol has ever had, the best singer period! Every week he was incredible. I wish you heard more of him today, he certainly has the talent.

    JohnTaupin 1 year ago 53 "

John, I totally agree. He has done 1 or 2 tours every year since, I hope you got to go to them. I would so love to have heard this rendition in person, omg!

  • The best Americann Idol male singer of all

  • I've finally figured it out - he looks like Data from Start Trek TNG.

  • @sanfordsson I think more like Dana Carvey, but Data, too! ha

  • wow what a voice amazing

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!! I JUST LOVE HIS VOICE, I WISH WE COULD HEAR MORE FROM HIM. JEANNE

  • @jeannebrookervin What do you mean you wish you could? He just had an album out. He most certainly is still around. There are countless videos of Clay from the past 3 years.

  • Love Clay! Best and should have won!

  • What a transformation with this man..

  • he gives the chilles.

  • I heard this when it happened when i was like 7 and i remember the final vocal part thats how i found this

  • This is the best version of Solitaire without question

  • @egglady Umm.. Are you serious?! How could you say that this version was terrible??? Do you have trouble hearing or something?? Even the famous Neil Sedacka (who wrote this song) said, and I quote, "I have lost my song forever to you, it will always be a Clay Aiken song." Okay, a legend said this, plus he wrote the damn song! I mean come on. You obviously have zero taste in music if you think that this wasnt an amazing rendition of the song.

  • i love how he just leaves his hands by his side and when he sings the long note solitaire, my gosh. This guy is just effortless- amazing

  • What an AWESOME song........Clay sings this so well........I can listen to Clay Aiken song all day long.......

  • OMG I get chills every time I hear him sing!!

  • he is the best american idol has ever had !!!!amazing

  • love you Clay, i cant stop watching this video...cant belive his talent....woooooooooooow

  • His lips match his face

  • I always enjoy revisiting this moment on Idol with Clay singing his heart out. He can truly sing anything -- check out some of the medley's on youtube he sang on his Timeless Tour where he sang music from the 60's, 70's, 80's, & 90's -- even did some dancing in a pair of MC Hammer pants. He and Ruben were a scream on that tour!

His On My Way Here CD released in 2008 is one of my favs as is his latest Tried and True CD Album.

  • I love Clay's version of "Solitaire" He truly is wonderful to watch and listen to. I don't understand as well, why Adam fans come here to put Clay down, and build theirs up? 8+ years of listening to Clay, and he still sounds fantastic... I would never go to listen to Adam. Don't like his voice, tone, anything about his voice at all. Can't stand to even look at him. So I don't.. Clay is amazing.

  • THE VOICE IS BACK BITCHES.

  • @danrdewf that's right the note is just incredible.... but his version of the first one was much more lyrical .. and 100x better for me.. but the note is great, that's for sure:) He sang the lines totally different and i prefer the more lyrical one.. the first one!! cheers :))

  • @perfectdaywithclay

Thanks for the response. I have ordered a "best of" album and will certainly look

out for the one you mention. If he can sing the lyrics with the same quality he has

in his voice then it will be something to savour. It is to be applauded that there are

singers coming along who are ready to return to those beautifully crafted songs

that stand the test of time and find new and appreciative audiences with each new generation.

  • This guy is a class act. One thing I find difficult to accommodate is the tendency

to belt out lyrics at full volume as a matter of course. A singer like Sinatra knew

to let the words tell their own story and though he could belt with the best of them,

he was the master of the perfectly phrased heartfelt word. Having said that, I shall

be checking out this guy's recordings. A really great voice.

  • @songsmith31a You should check out Clay's latest CD "Tried & True." He sings standards from the 50's & 60's. There is also a Live DVD of the same music. It is a beautiful album!

  • Chuck Norris may push the world down when he does a push up. Clay Aiken makes people shut up when he sings.

  • The person that disliked this video was Ruben, knowing that Clay was better than him. No offense to Ruben fans out there. XD

  • <3 I'll never get tired of Clay Aiken!

  • just got goosebumps

  • just got goosbumps

  • much better the first time;)) in the competition itself...)

  • @gunnasveins But the first time doesn't have the big epic note. :D

  • Clay was brilliant on AI and continues with his brilliance. He sings, therefore, he isn't on radio's top 40 where singing is an option.

  • This is still one of my all time favorites. He just nails it.

  • Damn! He is so phenomenal!

  • The best EVER!!!! Solitaire and Bridge Over Troubled Water....AMAZING...

  • He's the best, amazing voice!

  • It's been FOREVER since I've heard Clay sing. I forgot what an amazing voice he has!

  • Comment removed

  • SICK!

  • Still one of my favorite performances EVER. He sounds amazing and he looks so sharp. What a classy guy.

  • He held that note forever! There was something Shakespearean about his unfair loss of AI. It was a professional tragedy. And it still sucks.

  • @Brenda2OOO Well look at how things turned out in spite of his loss. How many CDs does Reuben have? I've heard one song by Reuben on the radio since his win. Clay, on the other hand? Several records and hit songs. He did alright, I'd say. :)

  • I love his amazing voice.

  • Dawg, it was just FANTASTIC

  • This live performance is sorta pitchy, but the recorded version is really amazing.

  • gotta hand it to this guy, although i dont like his personality he is an incredible singer and he absolutely smashes this song,,perfection!!

  • give it up for Clay Aiken, oh yes, I'd give it up for Clay any day of the week! Sweet Lawd that man can sing!

  • Clay was always my favorite.. He can sing .. I just like when he sang this song awesome.....

  • Probably Clay's best song, and I think he's one of the best male singers today. However, sorry Clay. Karen Carpenter will forever own this song.

  • agree with everything y"all said I love his voice,(Gay or not ),does not matter to talent.Only God gives out Talents.......Who can argue with Him !? Gabrielle

  • hes someone who would be great to have as a freind i think

  • oh my god... Great!!!

  • i dont think you all realize how hard it is to sing this song..wow clay aiken you continue to amaze me.

  • I just can't get this guy out of my head - what American Idol was originally all about -

  • it cracks me up that Clay Aiken is the Barry Manilow of my generation. A fantastic singer that no one but his most hardcore fans will admit to liking in real life.

  • I LOVE the revolving camera when he hits that glory note! That was so cool!

  • I love this version. He's one of the best.

  • I LOVE HIM

  • Why didn't Clay win American Idol again? Somehow the best person never wins. Daughtry, Adam Lambert... this song is so touching.

  • Oh god, I had not watched this in awhile and it just knocks me over every single time! I get chills and the hair on the back of neck stands up. He's such an amazing singer/performer. Back to view and listen few more times and hopefully I can eventually pull myself away! lol

    THUD

  • I had forgotten how wonderful Clay performed Solitaire that night -- and how great he looked, too! His new PBS Special Tried and True is also amazing -- as well as his new CD: Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Misty, Mack the Knife, It's Impossible, Crying. Beautiful voice and songs. I also love On My Way Here, Clay's 2008 CD --Ashes, Falling, and Everything I Don't Need. Such talent!

Check out Clay's Those Magic Changes, This is the Night, and Home from the Bringing Broadway Home show.

  • wow what can u say amazing

  • Got that pitch problem sorted out pretty good..Really good.

  • OMG YOURE AWESOME!

  • ....i love his performance and his rendition of solitaire, clay hope you will come someday in the Philippines... you are my idol

  • Wonder what Karen Carpenter would be saying if she heard this.

  • @rayva1 I think she would be extremely impressed, and Andy Williams as well!! :-)

  • I love that smile at the end :)

  • I die everytime he goes into his lower range !!!! :)

  • WOW!

  • I miss Clay's natural look...I loved his teeth before he had them done......:(

  • @aprildreams317: Yep ~ and I preferred his original hairstyle and color.

  • I love Clay, he looks like Fry from Futurama.

  • Powerful & beautiful voice. I never get tire of listening his songs

  • Just give the man a microphone and let him do his thing. Best Idol contestant ever. And I sincerely mean that.

  • I cannot, and I mean CANNOT wait till June 1st. to get my hands on the Tried and True CD, I have heard snippets, and that is the true Clay Aiken voice ...awesome!

  • I have always said, and I will continue to say it.. not only the best male singer American Idol has ever had, the best singer period! Every week he was incredible. I wish you heard more of him today, he certainly has the talent.

  • @JohnTaupin Hi John. Clay has a new CD coming out tomorrow - Tried and True. It's 11 (or 13, depending on what you buy) wonderful tracks of Clay singing songs just like this, with that incredible voice.

  • @SiouxRoux Thank you.. I never heard anything about that. But I will definitely check it out, I missed hearing his fantastic voice!

  • @SiouxRoux Hello

  • @JohnTaupin Clay taped a PBS special which will be broadcast in August. Thought you might like to know. From what I hear, he was AMAZING!!!

  • @JohnTaupin Thought you might like to know, Clay has taped a PBS special which will be aired in August. According to reports from fans who attended the concert , it was amazing! You can see a snippet here on You Tube. "Clay Aiken-Tried and True-Live- Promo".

  • @veglia2nd Thanks! I'll look for it. It doesn't surprise me about what people said.. He IS amazing!

  • @JohnTaupin hes great but i think adams on a different level personally

  • @viv3147 Agree, Adam is in a much lower level in every sense, no comparison here.

  • That is it !!! Don't have to move Clay. Just open your mouth and give us that amazing voice !!! I hope you are sorrounded by people that love you as much I do. Don't get me wrong. I am 63. Just love your voice and personality. God bless.

  • compare this to the last couple of seasons of american idol and they aint got nothing on this shit. this is so amazing, if only american idol was still like this.

  • OMG he owned that song!

his voice is too powerful agains the backround music.

in 2:21 hes hand mixing up with the tv screen, its look like he has no hand ^^

  • He sang this better than the original artist Neil Sedaka.

  • Wow. It's such a shame. He should have had a HUGE, HUGE career. Instead....his career has been SO mismanaged. People just didn't know what to do with him. First....they gave him R&B/Pop music that just is NOT right for his voice, for the first album. Then, they decided to completely change his entire image and attempt to make him "sexy". Didn't work. He needs to be himself and sing adult contemporary tunes like this. THAT will give him a career that lasts a lifetime.

  • My God !!------- What a horrible thing NOT to allow him to be the winner because he is gay...???!! ---! Please !!! This is soooo narrow-minded ! --- Gay or not who cares?? HE IS TERRIFIC. TALENTED. GREAT PERFORMER. CARISMATIC etc... and I love him. I wish he was my son.

  • wow, that was 15 seconds!! SOLITAIREEEEEEEEEEEE~~

  • How on EARTH did this guy NOT win???????????

  • For those who wonder why he didnt win considering he was the top every week. Its simple really. BTW no really knew he was gay when he competed. So that is not it. Look back over all the idols who have won. Look at the runner ups or those we think should have won. This is a theory so dont get mad anyone. Nearly all to my knowledge of the winning idols are christians or living good lives reperesentative of good role models.

  • This was one of the great performances, even though this was the year after Aiken competed, he showed everyone he should have won.

  • I never forgot this performance... I think I was nine or ten when I saw it on TV.

    Clay > Reuben, yo.

  • wow... for once i love it!!!!!!!

  • I love this song! He sings it so well. But at 1:32 why does he sing " but how I EAAAT GOAT, goes without SAYYing..."? is this some anti-peta message or deep lyrical meaning to this change?

  • just an amazing voice

  • That boy is good !!! Will always remain a mystery to me how Reuben won Season 2, when you hear Clay sing like this. Amazing !!

  • In reality Clay won the competition. He is going on tour this summer and he is taking Ruben ( the winner) with him on the tour. The official dates have not been announced yet, but we should hear news soon. Keep checking ticketmaster & the Clay boards for dates!

  • One of the great mysteries of American Idol - How Clay ever lost to Reuben the season before.

  • The whole performance was amazing, especially that incredible big note.

  • Real talent who can sing with out all the jumping around rappers do....

  • @VEEFOURVENDETTA, yeah and without all the cursing and auto tune use..lol... too bad we don't hear his music on the radio :(

  • Reuben WHO????? LOL!!!!! Clay is amazing.

  • amazing! he was the best

  • I never tire of that voice, I really miss him, wish he'd come back to singing for us.

  • pywacket7, Clay is coming back to sing for us. A new CD coming out in June plus a PBS special in June also. The taping of the PBS special will take place on March 12th in Raleigh, NC. Can't wait!

  • Thanks for that piece of info! I'm a big fan and it's hard to get his work here in Singapore

  • Thanks so much for that information. I was so hoping he'd pop up somewhere. With a talent like that you can't keep it down. Can't wait.

  • @veglia2nd, thanks for the info..I have wanted some music from him for a long time now..

  • i love this song and the one note where he sung solitaire was freaking amazing. love him.

  • that one note. holy crap. it never ende O.O amazing man

  • He was the real winner.

  • This man doesnt need any gimmicks. Just his voice is enough to AMAZE me! :WOW

  • he made it sound so simple and effortlessly...

  • Comment removed

  • gives me goose pimples ever time love him xxx

  • My goodness.. So amazing!!!

  • he has an awesome voice :)

  • say word it's nigel lithgoe from sytycd in the beginning on the right

  • this song was about his biological father soo cool

  • No band, no back up dancers, no costumes, no gimmicks.

Just a man, a microphone, and that glorious voice and smile!!

  • the best rendition of this song so far

people always claim oldies are goodies

but the modern singers can sing equally well

  • He has such a presence on stage too, he just looks like he is a complete natural.

Probably the best American Idol contestant ever.

  • You're right, American Idol still has not found anyone as talented as Clay Aiken. Carrie Underwood is good. Adam Lambert is good, but he can't keep his tongue in his mouth when he hits high notes, and he's a pig. Clay still RULES!!

  • @shirboo well , i think him and kelly are the best EVER !!

  • @shirboo Adam only has his tongue out when he's really getting into it. Why do you call him a pig???

  • @shirboo You are so right especially about Clay being the most talented and Adam being a pig......Clay gives being gay a good name Adam gives it a bad name....that is my openion anyway......

  • @shirboo Lambert is probably 10 times the talent, and the tongue is a technical thing. If clay have half the range, he'd probably do the same on the scream notes

  • @viv3147 you wish lambert could sing like clay

  • @kdathomas69 no i wish idol took more star quality singers like clay and lambert. very diff. but as far as pure talent goes lambert exceeds
