  • this story gives me warm feelings, it is why i love human beings. fuck the humans who wish harm to other humans and wish to gain advantage over them through exploitation and manipulation. i hope these people don't get kicked out, they are making good use of an otherwise useless building.

  • @machogun Exactly. So many buildings that are still good for use go abandoned just because some prick wants to create his own building. If only people would stop expanding and just make use of what is available, like these people have.

  • WOW! I love the initiative these folks have taken looking out for #1. Kinda wish that would happen with the homeless who die in our streets.

  • Politics aside, it's interesting to see how the people of the tower have organized themselves to protect their community.

  • @loudstone YES indeed.. working together to accomplish a same goal. We need to learn that skill in the USA.

  • There are empty buildings that could end up like this all over New York City. As an example, I worked in a building on the South West corner of 5th Avenue and 26th Street a few years ago, and at that time, it was 90% percent empty. Now it's completely empty. I assume this is done to keep real estate prices high as there are various empty locations just like this all over New York City. In addition, there are a hand-full of known squatted buildings in the NYC area.

  • They're better most places. A place like that would typically be drug and gang ridden.

I think the most interesting story would be when their economy does get going what will they do with the building? Will they finish it, or tear it down and rebuild something else.
