The scalloped fretboard is gay and unnecessary. He could play the same with or without it.

It does give a bit better sustain to notes and makes vibratos much cleaner. It also forces you to be much more gentle with your fretting hand so you don't bend every note out of pitch.

It clearly has plenty of use, but I'm sure he could do just fine with a normal fretboard.

Malmsteen copied Blackmore: the "classical" chord progressions, the virtuoso style, scalloped neck, fender stratocaster. On stage he throw his guitar in the air and around his neck just like Blackmore always did.. He was GREAT in the 80s, not today. He play the same sloppy links over and over decade after decade. No variation at all!

Yngwie is the "best guitarist" because he is the one who introduced a new genre known as Shredding. He also combines classical music with rock and blues. For those who can't stand listening to him then don't. He is an amazing showman in concerts. You never know what to expect. BTW, he has a son who's 10 years old so please watch your comments as his behalf.

i've seen that show and honestly, it was... loud... just loud, nothing else special... i guess his best time is gone.. right now hes just playing scales up and down and up and down... after like 15 minutes i decided to leave that tent where he was playing and smoke some pot... i walked away like 200 meters and still i could not talk to my mate, cause he was so damn loud... i'd prefer having seen a bigger show of for example godin

phrygian is a scale based on a major scale but starting at the second degree of that scale. C major is CDEFGABC, Phrygian is DEFGABCD.

Your right. I used the ancient Greek Phrygian mode as the example. The modern Phrygian mode is built off the 3rd degree. Phrygian based on a C major scale; E,F,G,A,B,C,D,E. I'm not well versed with the names. I just play them when they sound right.
