  • I remember seeing this comet, it was so bright!

  • so full of shit about it not comming back... its only 3 1/2 years later and they are calling it mcnaught comming by in june...

  • @donchonalucci The new comet McNaught (officially designated C/2009 R1) is a different comet discovered by the same astronomer who also made the discovery of comet McNaught (officially designated C/2006 P1) in this video. It is not uncommon for serious comet hunters to have tens of comets named after them.

  • Awesome! Thanks for the upload. Next time a comet pass the earth will be at august 6:th, 2010. And the comet is the Enckes comet. I'll be watching it.

  • @Bgkgtjh i read that the Hartleys comet will also be making a pass around October of 2010...mcnaught is actually in the sky right now too but not this close

  • Okey. I read that there will be a comet in July to. Can't remember the name though. I've heard that Mcnaughts will not return again.

  • True Martian..... You have inspired me and I have subscribed to you the very day I saw you here on you tube. I have rated about 75% of your videos 5/5. I am In college so I am always busy, otherwise it would be 100%. Keep up your great work and wonderful personality. 5/5 again on comment McNaught of 07!

  • YOU'RE LUCKY

  • Thanks for the vid.

  • Awesome vid, if a tad grainy. Truly spectacular! I attempted to view Comet McNaught myself, but poor weather washed out all possible viewing windows. My luck came with Comet Holmes late last year. Thanks for sharing this! 5/5! So rare to see a Daylight Comet on par with the one in 1910

  • Was that black line at 1:30 a plane contrail? What is the period of this comet?

  • Yes it is a plane contrail. I believe it was announced that this comet was on a trajectory out of the solar system.

  • Yea i've heard of that prediciton.

Although i am not in America i am not too concerned as this was where the Mayans built there civilisation and also we live in hope everyday. The world will not end in a single day.

  • sum guy said this in a blog about it : "2057 Is your doomsday that you fear. You will probably be long dead before then. Jesus said to Daniel when he asked when these things will come to pass. Jesus told him in a dream that it will be yet a time, times, and a half a time. This equals to the year 2057 if you understand the calander that we have since that time. Look it up for yourself and be shocked."

    is THIS the real thing?

  • Well if you are interested in religious texts concerning doomsday, in particular the Bible. My father, who was a minister for most of his short life, often quoted the Gospel of St Matthew 25:13 "Watch therefore; for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh." I dont think anyone can predict the end of the earth. You may not even be alive tomorrow to worry about it. ;-)

  • lol there have been so mant doom to the earth predictions... anybody remember the millenium bug that had everyone so worked up????

  • I heard a Comets coming on April 13 2031 that will doom everybody from a documentary

  • To my knowlege there are no known comets predicted to impact earth. There is an asteroid called Apophis which posses a small risk of impact in 2036 and 2037. It will pass so close to us in 2029 that it will become a naked eye object. This pass will determine if it will be a threat to us in 2036-37.

  • my ass thats the end...july 7th of this year was supposed to be the end...its now..the 28th of july?

  • laughing my fucken ass off. no the end is on december 21 2012

  • beautiful comet indeed

  • about that 2012 stuff

  • The comet was discovered using CCD images and could not be observed visually using a telescope January 2007. If you think you discovered it before Robert then you can contact him directly via his website (he works at Siding Springs Observatory).

  • Doh! I didn't realise he had discovered 11 comets! I'll get me coat...

  • This was video was taken from Canal Fulton, Ohio USA.

  • Please note the correction in the video description section. Subtract 1:10 from the video time stamp for the correct time EST.

  • evertime I see this comet It makes me realise how small this planet is. Human beings will never see this comet again, think about that

  • Plus, there is a comet or asteroid headed towards this worthless planet, and can't wait until it hits. Anyways, if you don't believe me I have proof. It's supposed to hit around 2012 when all the other stuff happens

  • well if it happens New York can say Fuck to the freedom tower. well i don't belive in this bull shit untill i am shown proff

  • thats crap its just dooms day theores and dont mention that guy hu typed typed the bible or sumthin in to this computer program and i came up with words about 2012 because you can do that with any text you can type in the vanilla ice lyrics and it will hv 2012 stuff

  • December 27 2012 is the Mayan prediction of the end.

  • Anyone who actually beleives that is stupid really.

  • Figures, right on my birthday -_-*

  • MreViewer's post is partially incorrect...this comet was discovered in August 2006...Mr. McNaught did however discover a previous comet that also bears his name.

  • As a matter of fact I might add that I believe I have read somewhere that this is his 31st comet discovery.

  • does antone knoe how big the comet is??

  • Very nice! What camera were you using? I'm really impressed with the quality. You've done a wonderful job capturing it.

  • Suprisingly it was a standard Sony Hi8 home video camera. The video turned out better than the still shots I took because I was able to zoom in farther.

  • Im starting to wonder if this comet will make the round trip or will it evaporate, its getting pritty bright

  • Definatly will be interesting to see how it performs. Jaala can keep us posted!

  • or you can see it before sunrise? duh!

  • gcambo34 - the comet was discovered in August 2006 and has only been visible to the naked eye in the last few weeks. You have not been watching it for five years.

  • It was discovered by Robert McNaught and Malcolm Hartley in early October, 1999

  • Oh well, overcast today as well. I believe today was my last chance, but i will be stubborn and try again tomorrow.

  • if iam in fl miami can i see it from here?

  • I think it will be all but impossible. If you dont see it just after the sun sets tonight then it will be heading to the southern hemisphere.

  • Thanks for posting.

  • Jaala get ready for comet McNaught! Its headed toward the southern hemisphere after it passes the sun!

  • I know! Tomorrow night!

  • Well unfortunately I had no luck whatsoever. We had bad weather here for every night so I missed it completely. Bit of a bummer I was looking foward to it.

  • Hello Jaala. I'm subscribed to truemartian. Been subscribed for a couple of weeks :)

  • Yes David what is your point.

  • nice, better than the one I saw

  • Man, I tried last night, but there were clouds far out on the horizon... after seeing this, I'll try again.

  • Thanks for that - I'll try watching this evening.

  • Good view of the comet.

I'm still waiting for clear skies, so i can go look for it. Hopefully that will be soon.

  • well done!...beautiful beautiful comet :-)

  • WOW!! Very nice...
