  • 1 person has no taste in music!!!! (1 dislike)

  • Today was our first day trying out the singing part. I think there's a reason why we're in orchestra, and not in choir.

  • That's so cool, tell him that my high school band the Golden Valley Cardinal Regime is playing it for symphonic band, well the great locomotive chase....and I love it. :)

  • I just love The Great Locomotive Chase by Robert W. Smith too!

  • trouble how? i love the french horn :] s'my favorite instrument 2 play out of the 3 i can.

  • that means trouble for french horn

  • who's that one hater >.>

  • Trumpets- the voice of god

    Trumpets RULE

  • @ggyou4 Uhh, its actually more generally known that trumpets are the voice of ANGELS. Not God. God would be the French Horn ;D

  • @TheVampyreMist No, the "voice of God" would be tuba, because God has balls

  • @MrGuitar144 No, The voice of would be the Clarinet, because 1, It is the BEST instrument, and 2, God has class.

  • @milkacowTv11 Clarinets only sound good if the person playing it is really good. If not it sounds scratchy and airy.

  • @MrGuitar144 Thats true of any instrument really. I make the clarinet sound sexy. Same with the saxophone. Euphonium, however, is a different story.

  • @TheVampyreMist I am a french Horn player.

  • I'm first Baritone/Euphonium...our instrument gets no respect...

  • WOOT!!! LOW BRASS!!!

  • I play saxophone

  • omg, 1:00 to 1:10 yessss

  • Robert W Smith is AWESOME!!!!!!

  • but the solo in the beginning is done by a cello

  • we're playing this with my orchestra

  • It brings so many emotions ...

    =D

  • French Horn!

  • @The10ulloch french horns are the shit :)

  • @rwsfan114 Horns are okay, but trumpets will always come out on top.

  • @zombiefail741021 french horns are better suited for colour tones and the beautiful parts, trumpets add power and tear through. This is coming from a fellow trumpetier!

  • This sounds sooooo pretty !!

  • 8th grade, we're gonna play this :) we just got it today

  • i play bass clarinet its fun playing roberts music its so amazing especially surge

    im jackson in 7th grade

  • Euphonium players, UNITE!!!

  • I LOVE this peice. Although, it would be more enjoyable if the band I'm in played it at tempo, and not really freakin' slow. I play flute, but this song really makes me wanna play low brass XD

  • I love how Robert W. Smith does all those piccolo/flute and bass clarinet duets! I play piccolo and I love them :) This one doesn't sound too fun though.

  • well im in highskool varsity band, i play the piccolo solo and its hard!!!

  • I just want to let anyone who doubts a jr high band can play this, I assure they can. I was in Marshall Jr. High in Clovis NM and my varsity band played it. We took it to contest, and won second place. This was 1999/2000 and the band was directed by Cory Trout. I have loved this song ever since.

  • Into the storm is better

  • Oh Lord.....this was epic! It leaves a mysterious air about...making you curious as to what will happen next.Has you sitting at the edge of your seat....thrilled,exhilerated with every note that's played! Robert never fails to amaze me....Everything from The Tempest to Inchion..he's amazing! I was,in a word, entranced.I loved it! :DDDD

  • it's not very often that we hear a piccolo flute and bass clarinet duet

  • STRAIGHT SUPERIORS MIGHT I ADD....STEPHENSON HIGH SCHOOL C/O 2005 STONE MOIMTAIN, GA.....LOOK US UP!!!!

  • EUPHONIUMS!!!!!! YESSSSS PLAYED THIS MY SENIOR YEAR IN HIGH SCHOOL!!!!

  • @dwes2145 other then the solo was this piece fun, i think that i might play this piece this year but im not sure. it the euphonium part fun other then the solos

  • I played this as my grade 11 final performance, as well as Sensei's ride on the Cherry blossom express. our Band director really likes R.W.Smith. SO do I though. I just wish his pieces had more trombone melody!

  • If I saw this type of Poseidon if I were to go scuba diving....... I would pee myself in fear hahahaha.

  • wicked end i love it

  • I jus love how in the beginning te high pitch instruments are just going WILD

  • omg i'm getting chills!! we had to play this in high school and the song was one of the most challenging songs ever!! it's a beautiful composition nonetheless...

  • this should be in superman

  • @ProGamblerCauthon I noticed that too. I think it's because Poseidon was also the storm bringer in Greek myths, so wind would make sense. Although I agree with you; it's a little misleading. "The Storm of Poseidon" would make more sense.

  • Lol lots of people getting mad.

Your high school band is just that. It's not Eastman. So shut the fuck up, children. And just WAIT until you hit college, where everything is ten times better and more intimidating.

  • You know, although my high school band only has 6 members. We have enough inspiration to actually play something good. Now I'll be honest it doesn't sound near as good with a full band. BUT we were able to get superior in solo and ensemble :D I only wish we could play something as amazing as this though.

  • A friend of mine was talking to me about this piece.

    This is truly amazing.

  • all types of different sounds to it!

  • Is this baised on the book Odyssey?

  • @SeabassMovies based* and yes

  • :D! I remember doing the Oboe solo out of it. Loved it and love the piece <3.

Though this is MUCH faster to how I played it O_O

  • Robert W Smith is my advisor in college! He is also one of my professors. Am I lucky?? He is at Troy University, Troy, AL

  • @zimbelstern62 You are so lucky!! Robert W. Smith is my favorite composer of all time!!! I need to come to Troy haha XD

  • @zimbelstern62 i would like die if i was in ur place. lol ur way too lucky!! :P

  • @zimbelstern62 now way! Lucky

  • @zimbelstern62 thats epic. tell him i love his music

  • @zimbelstern62 omfg i am so jealous he is my favorite composer

  • @uofi12345666 99.7% of what you said is wrong. And supprisingly the .3% you left out is right because kids at my school have the same skill to play this such a the song "Encanto" by Robert W. Smith. EVEN the kids in 6th grade. So shut Your trap and for all the people who think im right. Reply to our friend here "@uofi12345666" "Oh no he didn't".

  • @Frankntooth88 i with u

  • @Frankntooth88 I'm 99.7% the correct spelling is surprisingly. Obviously your school holds music and youtube trash talking above a basic middle-school education. Grats

  • @Frankntooth88 Sure, you may be able to play the piece, but there will be A LOT of mistakes all over the place... the main thing that will separate A good band from bad, is the Musicianship! I'm sure young musicians can play with some inspiration. but not a WHOLE middle school band. To even compare a middle school band to a high school band is redundant! My High schools' bands (State level superior) would quiet you quickly!

  • @lolcorner That's what our band did last year. It's also 7th and 8th grade, and it sounded really great. You're definitely going to like it!

  • @boltnut33

Your teacher must grade you prtty easilyyyy O.o

  • o.o i almost jumped up at 6:12 - 6:13

  • @DansonHonda

    haha me too

  • i love when they play the chromatic scales :)

  • That was flippen sweet... im diggin the low brass

  • at 6:35-6:45 sounds a bit like The Great Locomotive Chase

  • What is the instrument that is soloing at the the start of the song?

  • @bdsaxophone i believe it's trombone.

  • @bdsaxophone euphonium

  • 1234EmilyTheStrange: this all the way. French horn is the best instrument Eva, though I love all instruments. All combine as one to create this beauty...

  • Love this piece.

  • im pretty sure 7th and 8th graders can play this song if there all Asians

  • @mahjong30 rofl, my wind ensemble is full of azns until they got raided by nonazns; they came out of no where T_____T

  • Love the piece, but why is it "wind" if Poseidon is the god of the sea? Also, french horn ftw.

  • Haha I almost pissed myself at 6:13 lol

  • This was our marching show.

  • @Strang3rDanger lucky

  • ur wrong... all the instrument are best because this music without flute or the clarinette... i don't if you understand but all the instrument are beautiful i think.... ;)

  • Hey! I'm 15 and play the french horn (: BEST INSTRUMENT EVER and we are playing this song at school. This is one of my top 10 (: and I looove the pieces of Robert W. Smith.

  • @1234EmilyTheStrange

ur wrong the best instrument is and will always be the trumpet. its just so damn sexy and it can scream. thats always fun. i love scream sessions

  • What grade level is this?

  • @dare1111111 hmmmm well i believe this is probably about a leval 4 or 5, b.c my band plays leval 4 and 5 music and this is our compitition peice this year. :)

  • ooh the only song by robert w smith weve ever played was the tempest....... i wish we played this...

  • at my high school we have played all of the divine comedy, earning all superior every year but we have yet to play this.We are considering it for this year. and nilesdance by holsinger, urban dances by erik morales, and the trombone king.

  • Impresionante sinfonía, los efectos en las cuerdas de madera son magníficos, y la percusión también buenísima

  • @sasiliaa translate: Impressive symphony, the effects on the cords of wood are great, and percussion also very good

  • we played this in 7th grade we got a 90 it was a good song

  • @boltnut33 I'm 99.7% sure you DID NOT play this in 7th grade and get a 90. You're full of shit kid

  • @uofi12345666 yes u can my friend did some bands are just bedder

  • @uofi12345666 Yah he's full of pis

  • @uofi12345666

I agree this song is way too challenging for a 7th grader. but its a good song

  • @uofi12345666 you act like its a hard piece

  • @uofi12345666 Some of the best songs are made for middle schools, usually in Texas, New Mexico or Indiana. It just depends.

  • @uofi12345666 a jr. high band wouldnt be able to play it

  • @uofi12345666 Only 99.7%! Do you really doubt yourself 0.3% of the time? You really need to build some self confidence. :-)

  • @sradley89 They doubt themselves because there's still the possibility that they're wrong. It'd be like they think they know everything if they said 100%.

  • @boltnut33 haha, bull shit. Nice try.

  • @boltnut33 uh you do realize it take even a tremendous amount of skill just to make a simple sounding song actually sound mediocre. Most people who play for the school band are introduced into music from middle school so I would be surprised if someone like you, who's only had 1-2 years of experience at the time, could even manage to play the beginning of this song.

  • @boltnut33 Yeah seriously, especcilly since you don't even know that this isn't a song. It's a piece dumbass... I rarley lecture people on stuff like this, so your lucky :P

  • @boltnut33 Omg kid. I played this song in 10th grade and got a 96. and our band is EPIC. so did you possibly play a variation of the song?

  • @ballerman49 Whoop,s Piece

  • We played this song in my high school band, I played bass clarinet. One of my favorite songs I've ever played.

  • @RDog4484 same here, played the b. clarinet in high school and loved this tune!

  • I love Robert W. Smith for his beautiful solos... they make me glad I play an instrument...

  • @velocifossa SIKE jkk :P i play the trumpet and you?

  • @MarIenaMisery O_o it did? now i'im a little worried.... i just started oboe this year (junior year)

  • GGGGRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTT Song !! =)

  • My High School band is playing this song this year.

I dont think we'll ever be able to play it THIS fast lol!

  • Comment removed

  • Dear entire comment section: No RW Smith piece is any harder than about 4.5

  • does any one have the sheet music if so post it please

  • Around March at The Reinhardt Honor Winds Clinic we actually worked with Robert W. Smith. It was a lot of fun. He is an amazing composer.

  • Robert W. Smith is just a great composer :)

  • it sounds like a grade 6 to me

  • cool peace ... played in 8th ...clarinet.

  • this song is awesome!!! what grade do u play it in????!!!

  • What level is this song? can anyone tell me?

  • Our percussion ensemble performed The Odyssey my Junior year in High School, this was either our Opener or 2nd mvt, I can't remember. We placed 9th at Nationals in Dayton Ohio that year. I had a three mallet chimes for parts of the song, which is very unusual.

  • I had an oboe solo in this song when we played it in band i love this song its awesome

  • FLUTE HAD THE HARDEST PART!!!!! MAAAN.

  • Picollo solo <3

  • Robert W. Smith is beast. I play trumpet.

  • man i love playign this song trumpet ftw

  • this song is sooo hard. i love this but why does he have to be so hard on tha trumpets? an i do believe thats a euphonium solo well atleast our euphonium's play it.

  • @014ladydevils i think it is because in so many of his other peices, he gives us nothing. like just the same note in a rhythym is all, but gives us the melody, which is really simplistic. so he gave us a promotion to something really hard, but fun. give the guy credit, he got the pros to play it as fast as that, which is damn near impossible.

  • @014ladydevils

Mhm. Oboe, eupho, and pic solos with duets of flute/b.c., trumpet/trombone, and trumpet/horn if I remember correctly.

  • i really like the beginning to this song

  • french hor is the best

  • @SikPrODCtIoNs yea!!!!

  • Wow this could easily be turned into a marching band show...

We performed The Quest for our show this year. The Quest really stands out from Robs other music. For example, the winds of poseidon has very similar characteristics of the great locomotive chase. sometimes. I almost said the iliad then i wouldve felt ignorant. but i still like the peice. I would to play this for our show. I know our directors would more than likely turn the solos into horn solos if they arent already are...

  • Comment removed

  • @velocifossa because i know hes not gonna give any baritones solos. and he favors the horn because that what he plays. good luck euphonium! that is one similarity between the quest and this...

  • All this argument over grading...

95% of band stuff isn't in the top grades

maybe Ticheli and some Barnes stuff would be but not much else

  • anyone have the muisic for baritone/euphonium, if you do, send it to me in a private message plz :)

  • ahh i marched this show my sophomore year, so much fun :)

  • this is my first time hearing this song, and let me tell you, it scared the crap out of me at 6:13

who else would be startled be that?

  • is it just me, or do I hear voices around 5:50?

If so....I really want to play this song!

but i dont know if i would play trombone, or sing it...

  • yes those are voices

  • The vocals are actually for female voices so no matter what instrument you're playing (as long as it's not oboe) you can sing it.

  • well theres not like a choir...its written so that i think like woodwinds sing there. we just started playing this piece in band. our band teacher likes to choose songs for us with singing in them...heh

  • I played this song two years ago, had the beginning solo and we even went to D.C. with it along with Persis. It was awesome...

  • @burns174 persis by james hosay? we played that for one of our marching shows as well.

  • i'm playing this for orchestra.....WTF?!?!?!?!

  • @BennechC

    Dude it's called an arrangement

  • @dimsimlord yo i know that, just i'm not personally in love with this piece and playing it for orchestra is like forcing me to eat chalk. so the WTF is for that and the initial distain for this piece. But now that the concert is long since over, i'm like "mehhh" on this piece so yeah, but at the time i hated it. -___________-

  • 6th or 7th??? What are you smoking. So fun to play on trumpet

  • So much fun on trumpet :)

depends on the grading system. but yeh this is no way Grade 6 or 7, they are reallly hard. a grade 5 piece i know is called Metropolis - think westside story - on acid

  • The grade of a song is the difficulty it goes up to grade 10th i think!!!

  • ooooOOooo!

    this is my favorite song!

    it's so... demanding and vicious...

but pretty at the same time. lOll

  • does anyone know what grade this piece is? Is it 4 or above

  • Its a grade 4 or 5 depending on the arrangement.

  • We had to play this for band contest. WE ROCKED!

I love this song and it was sooo much fun to play.

  • awsome music :D
