The purpose of this 470N capacitor is for correct operation of the VCO voltage controlled oscillator frequency in the decoder circuit that generates the 19KHZ pilot tone and 38KHZ sub carriar and this value is very critical. It would be better to have this size smaller but out of all the electronic component retailers I have dealt with, this was the nearest size I could find at the time of building this project.
