  • So why the hell aren't you living in Canada if it's so great? Nothing worse than some idiot telling people how great Country X is and how much better their health care is but for whatever reason choosing not to live there. Oh what, your precious Hollywood isn't in Canada? Way to completely oversimplify the health care issue into nothing but "our government doesn't want to cover people but Canada's does". Durrrr. Nice try though Sophia. Stick to acting.

  • i thought she was perfect! until she opened her mouth about her political views lol Isn't Obama great? I mean free health care for everyone! Well ok, you will get fined if you don't have health insurance but its the thought that counts right? goodbye capitalism and hello socialism.

  • Sophia's such a good person! I love how she speaks out about things, and her love for animals and our planet.

  • i'm not great on economics so i'm sorry if this sounds like a ridiculous idea, but i think health care should be free everywhere. I'm not naiive, i realise it's not that easy, but i'm sure you wouldn't mind paying a little extra tax if it meant free health care, right? i'm from the UK and i'm not saying our NHS is perfect, but since starting my nurse training to i've seen first hand what a god send the NHS has been to so many people! i really hope a change in health care comes for you guys soon!

  • Love you sophia!! more people need to be like her :D

  • I think the costs are absolutely horrifying to people and disgusting! The government dont really care when it comes to treatment, all they care about is the money. they want to have power and be listed as a rich country....

    Sophia bush is amazing

    !!!!

  • shes such a great person, personality and beliefe wise! <3

  • @gunnarsom with Sophia Bush?

  • this women is amazing she isn't scared to speak her mind she has every right too do so people need to respect people like her shes a good role model x

  • yeah i know lol ! she's born in united states but her dad came from my province. i just said it wrong

  • She's a québecoise!!!!!

  • Not really she has borned in america but her dad is from quebec

  • I'm from quebec and ?I wish she had the luck we have on the healt care stuff we have, she is amazing!

  • you go sophia!

    <33333

  • I have got so much respect for this woman... I can relate to what she's saying. I am lucky (and proud) to be Canadian, because when my dad had cancer years ago, had we not had the health care system that we do, it would have been a financial nightmare.

  • Health care is free in many places-but while people are waiting for their turn they die. A close friend's father (who lives in London) died from cancer waiting his turn. Health care is a messed up but making it free isn't the answer to problem.

  • SWEET!!! SOPHIA IS SEMI-CANADIAN!!! : )I am proud to be canadian :)

  • I see what you are saying about the not being able to pay for emrgency surgery and stuff like that, but I don't think having free health care is the way to do it. There are so many other ways that we could go about fixing this, I think ree health care should be a last resort.

  • such as...?

  • Hahaha! One of the dedicated few. I agree though.

  • I'm sorry, but none of you know what you are talking about. Why do you think America has the most medical advances? People from other countries whose government pays for their healthcare actualy come here for better treatment in some cases.

  • That's actually true! I'm Canadian, which means I have a free health plan! I have canadian friends who had to go to the States to receive a better medical treatment. I think everywhere should be the same. I think everyone should have a free health plan! What happens to those who have a life threatening disease, and need surgery but can't afford it, what happens to them. they die because they can't afford the medical bills?

  • Actually, suckmycola, they do get paid based on patients. Most doctors are paid either by insurance companies, which the patients pay for, or the patients themselves. Think about it, a doctor who little to no patients doesn't get the same about of money as on who gets a lot of patients. Why do you think we have healthcare?

  • ..."healthcare that is generally free to patients, being funded from general taxation, considerable differences are now developing between the different systems." This is talking about your "free" healthcare. Look, the govt is going to get their money, so how do they make up for seemingly free healthcare?..taxes. Just b/c you're not out right paying for your healthcare doesn't mean you're not paying for it..

  • Government controlled health care sounds awesome!! ..(not)

  • We get free healthocare in the UK. Run by the government - it's the single best thing about our country. Really hope you never get into a position were you need healthcare and have to pay thousands for it. I know I wont simply because of where I live.

    Open your eyes.

  • Omg sophia is like my idol and i really have to say i agree with her 100%. She has been through soo many ups and downs in the last few years and she is still soo grouned and strong. You rock sophia

  • I'm from Italy and we don't pay for our healthcare. I LOVE YOU SOPHIA, you are the most adorable and beautiful girl of the world

  • Okay, I understand where hse is coming from but if we were like Canada and didn't pay for healthcare, then we would have less doctors. Think about it, why would someone go through the stress of medical school and being up to your ears in student loan debt if once you became a doctor you didn't even make that much money? Also, our awesome medical advances and equipment would probably not exist because who would pay for them?

  • wow you must be really stupid. do you think all doctors gets paid based on patients? whether health care is free or not, the doctors will still be paid the same amount through the government. instead of using our tax money on some useless war, they can pay your precious doctors.

  • If you didnt pay for the medical care the way you do know, you'd still pay for it and doctors would still get paid! I'm from the UK, and we pay National Insurance automatically in our wages, like tax, and that NI runs the health service, meaning that as long as you pay NI (ie, you work) you are entitled to free healthcare and dont pay per operation or treatment.

Doctors still earn a lot, and because EVERYONE pays NI who works, theres plenty for equipment. Google NHS UK and you'll find out more.

  • she isnt crying. thats just her sexy ass voice

  • lol thats true

  • is she crying????

  • it really sounded like she was gonna cry

poor sophia, shes been through alot

    U ROCK SOPH

  • in italy is all free.

it's like the only prob we don't have.

  • i love sophia bush...y'know what? we're wasting our taxes on so many things we don't need, like capital punishment, ellegal immigrants, the war on iraq, but we can't cover healthcare? c'mon, canada's only supposed to be able to beat us at ice-related sports lol

  • I totally agree!

  • take it off!

  • Sophia seems very nice person and very down to earth

  • I like Sophia but I don't like Barack Obama..

  • I live in belgium and these issues are off the table, everybody is covered up for health care, and we have a government that completely stands for human rights !!

and I think that it is brave of her to express her opinion in public, it takes a lot of courage, and knowing that she spoke for obama, I just like her even more, the girl's got style AND has a good political intrest !!! I like her soo much, she's a true roldemodel for me !!!

  • Feel sorry for her grandmother and mother. I always believe that being healthy is among the top 5 in anybody's list. Jokes aside, it's good of her to talk openly about such issues. Thumbs up.

  • This is why I thank my stars that I was born in the UK (Scotland to be precise) and we have a service called the NHS whereby anybody and I mean anybody has a right to free medical treatment - this includes everything from surgery to seeing your GP.

I wonder why this cant be implemented across the globe.

  • Capitalism has proven its worth in such a spectacularly overwhelming fashion it almost feels unreal defending it in 2008. Capitalism is a theory of _production_. It doesn't matter if it's production of computers, potatoes or health care.

Capitalism is "survival of the fittest" in one sense, but not the way you seem to suggest. The best companies survive and bad _companies_ die. Human life on the other hand is prolonged and improved under capitalism.

  • Improved for some. SOL for others.

We're all human beings and we must not let people down just because there is something wrong with them. Sick people can't help it, and I'd rather pay tax and see that they're looked after. As long as money is not being wasted, so, that mean auditing and streamlining.

But not in the realm of capitalism I'm afraid.

  • A bit ironical: I just woke up and turn on my computer. The two top headlines at Sweden's second biggest newspaper SvD was about health care: "Folkpartiet wants to punish districts for cancelled operations" and "Chaos at hospitals -- hospital personnel leave the emergency room crying because of long waiting lines and patients who are forces to leave early or "tossed" around." Proof at s v d . s e

  • No, capitalism has improved life tremendously for everybody. Obviously you can't include non-capitalistic countries in "everybody" here. Working class people are in many respects richer than kings were just 300 years ago and would be much richer if we had had pure capitalism with a government that only protected individual rights.

    What does SOL mean?

I would engage in _voluntary_ charity under laissez-faire capitalism. The American people gave more than any state to the Tsunami victims.

  • In Sweden socialized health care is a big mess. The solution to the U.S. health care problem is CAPITALISM and FREEDOM. Not government and force. The health care market in the U.S. currently is the most regulated and distorted industry there why do you morons think MORE OF THE SAME is going to help? I despise Americans who don't support freedom. If you like big-government so much why don't move to such countries? Check out the We Stand Firm website and embrace individual rights in medicine.

  • You are wrong. Without control, companies will determine your destiny. If they know that they can't make money on you, they will deny you care. "Freedom" is not a simple answer. It "feels" free and happy and all, but it will lead to the survival of the fittest - is that what you want?

You really need to start using your brains.

  • Why not then make it voluntary? Why do you need to force me in to your system? I think you're stupid and you think I'm stupid. Let's see who is stupid and who is not. OK?

  • I don't think you're stupid but I don't agree with your standpoint. Your motivation is to be able to "buy" service as a foreigner. But imagine living in the USA. Imagine having a family member knocking on your door for surgery money, because there is a problem with his/her insurance company.

Don't worry, you will always be able to "buy" service in the US.

Also, it's not "socialized" healthcare, but a single state controlled insurance fund, like in Canada. It's not "socialized".

  • Actually my hope is to win on the green card lottery and become a US citizen. Sweden is going down. I don't think I can live under Sweden's tax pressure and afford to pay for care in the US. My freedom and life are thus restricted. I think every honest human regardless of economic status will benefit tremendously under a _completely_ capitalistic health care system. Just as a completely capitalistic computer industry is better for everybody, a completely capitalistic HC industry would be.

  • Jocke1776

"I think every honest human regardless of economic status will benefit tremendously under a _completely_ capitalistic health care system"

That doesn't even make sense. Do you know what capitalism is and how it works? Because obviously you have no idea.

  • Sophia is a very intelligent woman and i think she is concerned by the people who suffer for the lack of public systems ... it seems to me that she is really smart and down to earth

  • Canada has a public health system. We're plagued with ignorant right wing fools barfing up their rhetoric about how public healthcare is so bad. b.s.

I would not want an insurance system that spends 25+% of health dollars trying to deny you care.

    Down with privatized health care.

  • You have to wait 18 months for knee or hip replacement surgeries, eye care isn't covered, no one has a family doctor, sick people lay in the hallways because there is not enough room, you have no control over the types of treatments you receive, you CANNOT pay to have anything done that is provided by the public system. Canadian health = broken. We are going bankrupt trying to pay for it all.

  • dadeyis1: wait times are reducing. Eye care is covered under 18 (?) and over 65 (around there), family doctors ARE available but in some areas very difficult to find, true, laying in hallways is exaggerated, people are not qualified to "choose" treatment and if there is a choice you often DO get a choice where it makes sense. No need to pay because it's paid by tax dollars already.

It's not broken, but it has problems which is always a battle.

  • Here in Sweden it's a big mess too. Rationing is all over the place and I hate feeling like a criminal asking for certain treatments. I don't trust the Swedish health care to "be there for me" when I get old one bit. My only hope is that the Americans will stick to freedom so that I can get my health care over there. Screw the mess of socialized helth care. Google "We Stand Firm" everybody.

  • wow. Go Canada :D and SB

  • her voice is kind of irritating!

  • its not her fault. its because of the weather. she is in set 24 hours and its so cold in there. she said something about it in an interview.

  • It is always interesting to hear people on here use words like "capitalists" and act as if they know what they are talking about....it is only the fault of those who let this happen, not the fault of those who make it happen...as a majority people need to stand up and make a choice together and that is what makes the USA suck...we are so divided on noble causes that nothing ever gets resolved!

  • ?? she's talking about universal health care in canada, barack obama doesnt support that, hilary's position on health care is more similar to the system canada has.

  • love Sophia and totally agree with her! Obama 08!!!!

  • it seems like she's gonna cry..she has a little voice.I agree with her, i mean i'm french and in france we don't have this problem! love you sophia, i support you in everything because you make good choices, you R a good person you R intelligent <3

  • I love Sophia but i am a republican so i am going for mccain

  • sophia is so awesome!!

  • She is amazing. So smart, and caring.

  • HEALTH CARE IN USA sucks ...

  • ---- HEALTH CARE IN usa is CAPITALISTs fucking USA people ....

  • OMG! You'r my idol Sophia! Why HIM!!!!!!!

  • omg i love sophia bush alot..im going for obama beczz sophia bush is going for obama omg how much i love her....

  • OMG!!I LOVE HER

  • She is adorable

  • She is adorable

  • CANADIAN GIRL AHAH YES

  • im from scotland and we dont pay for our healthcare. sure you might have to wait a little longer for treatment but you always get the best service and you are always made sure your confortable i think that america should have free health care because too many people are suffering and its not as if the government cant afford it .

  • i love her when she's a actress and i love her when she's just being herself!

  • can you tell me what she said about her mother and grandmother, i don't understand speaking english. thank you

  • I agree that sometimes people have a problems such as these with national healthcare, but I think it is still the best option, rather than having millions uninsured because the premiums are too high. You guys talk about people coming over to the states because they have to wait in Canada, but what about people who can't afford the treatment here? Not everyone can come over from a foreign country and afford to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to be taken care of.

  • yay Sophia is half Canadian

  • lol no shes not

  • hum... yes she is!

Her dad is from Montreal and her mom is from Italia.

This makes her half Canadian (quebec yeah!) and half Italian, doesn't it?

  • Her dad is totally quebecer. And its awesome. I think her mom is only half italian though, which would make her a quarter italian.

  • yeah sophia !

  • i just love her so much!

she is such a good actress and such a good poeple!

    she is the best!!!!

  • i just love her so much!

she is such a good actress and such a good poeple!

    she is the best!!!!

  • i just love her so much!

she is such a good actress and such a good poeple!

    she is the best!!!!

  • I adore this woman, but I must disagree with her. Her grandmother in Canada was lucky, but there are so many reports of Canadians coming to the U.S. for health care because the wait times in Canada are just insane. There needs to be a middle ground between what we have and what Canada has.

Although I disagree with her, I commend her for speaking up and being involved in the elections.

  • yeah.... i totally agree with you. Im from Canada and I think its great... I know some rich people go to the US to get treatment cause they can get it there the day they arrive but in Canada they may have to wait a week(depending on what it is) but its just because in Canada is not only just the rich that get to have treatment and live. I think its great because it gives you the option if your rich go get it but if your not you wont die from not receiving treatment.

  • I am from Canada too and I totally agree, and Sophia is totally right.

  • I agree too!

Luv Sophia for this, and everything else she says et does! :P

  • Agreed. Her thoughts, however well intentioned are short sighted. If you need emergency surgery in places like Canada, england, etc. you may not get it right away. My 2nd cousin had a HUGE problem while in England when he needed major surgery. If my mom, sister, father etc were dying I'd be angry if they had to "wait a week"..what if they DIED in the mean time?! that is what will happen if we have a national health care system.

  • glad to hear her mom & grandma got better though ...that was heartfelt.

  • Sophia bush is beauty, brains, humility and eloquence. I love that girl. She's one of the few young Hollywood stars who has a good head on her shoulders.

  • Once again Sophia Bush amazes me, with her intelligence & eloquence. She is one of the ONLY people in Hollywood that I would ever want my own kids (someday) to look up to. Keep it up Sophia!

  • she is one amazing woman!

  • wow, I really couldn't emagine how that would be - i'm from Denmark and all health care is free here. But i love Sophia, this really touched me.

  • wow, I really couldn't emagine how that would be - i'm from Denmark and all health care is free here. But i love Sophia, this really touched me.

  • you just have to buy health care here..although many many many jobs offer it for free or at a vastly reduced cost. at least here in the states i dont have to wait at all if i need medical care. people from canada have actually come over to the states when they've needed medical attention and couldn't wait for the canadian medical care system to take care of them.. that's saying A LOT. national health care systems are hugely problematic.

  • LOVE HER! and good for her for supporting someone she believe in and stepping out like that. I hope to see a longer version of her appearance. thanks for the upload.

  • upload the whole thing please.

    thank you!

  • i love Sophia... she's so personable and so real. i'm glad both her mother and grandmother are alright... my mom is curently in remission from cancer and luckily she had a good health plan that wasn't too expensive but it certainly wasn't $12 a month. i feel for those who can't afford it.

  • It's so fantastic to see Sophia sharing her personal story, and supporting something she truly believes in. If only all of the young Hollywood crowd were as passionate and eloquent as she is.

  • are there more of this?

i want to see the whole thing!

  • I love sophia. =]

  • Wayu to go Soph

  • thanks for this!
