The largest br Bear killed by a Tiger (documented) was a young and fat female weighing appr 170 kg, killed while hybernating. On the other hand there are several cases of large male Tigers killed by Brown Bears. Since its obvious Bears dont hunt Tigers (they easily get away + difficult kill anyway), these killings happen after food disputes. Male Bears often follow Tigers in spring in order to take their kills from them. And most of the times Tigers have to give it up when the Bear arrives.

@Norwegian733 Yes, but Tigers arent brawlers like Lions, if a Lion was up against a Bear it would lose, because they are close combat fighters but Tigers, tigers are smart they will hurt an animal before killing it to make it easier. All those animated fights say that a tiger would often brawl a bear by trying to wrestle it and then try to go for the throat thats not true it would often try to stay away then suprise attack it or box the bear then kill it, although i respect your opinion.

@DynomiteKid65 I partly agree. If attacking a large animal it has to use surprice since the Tiger dont have stamnia. Their stamnina is terrible. It must kill its prey fast (neck bite) or give up. In India the population living around Tiger know Tigers will give up if only they can hold their stand for 15- 20 seconds. Animated fights at Discovery Ch. does not give a correct view of the fight, but its correct on the conclutoins.

In an actual fight fight the Tiger has little chance unless it can use it's speed to deliver a killing bite/blow before getting struck. A sloth bear stands no chance against a fully grown male bengal Tiger though, dunno how big Asiatic bears are.

A lion would be less likely to win, since it's more reliant on brute force, a field that it cannot compete with the bear in. Add a Lion pride and that's one dead bear:D

@Arnebananlolo That small part are old, female, or young brown bears, there is no way a tiger can take on a full grown brown bear head on. The power and weight difference is too much, also bears can stand on their back legs which gives them height and better mobility. Tigers might be faster, but bears are not slow either, all the bear needs is a single blow, i doubt the tiger could get to the bears neek before getting broken bones. By the way, a bears neek is very protected.

@sokozo You're right, I doubt a Tiger would win, even one of the giant Siberian ones. But if a Tiger brings a bear down, maybe by pouncing, I'd say it could win. Both are powerful animals, and you have to consider what kinds of animals a Tiger can bring down, gaurs for instance.

@sokozo As far as i know, and i may be wrong because I don't care enough to research this, but the Tiger and gaur populations that do coexist happen to have very low Tiger numbers.

Again, as far as i know, only Siberians and possibly Indochinese Tigers interact with gaurs, both of which are hard to even catch on camera let alone making a kill.

My point is, don't expect any footage from the 500 or so Tigers that actually coexist with gaur.

As for Siberian Tigers in Sikhote- Alin area in Siberia, the Tigers do kill Brown Bears on rare occations, but its either cubs or small females(less then 110 kg) mostly while hibernating. Br Bears dont get fully grown until they reach 5 yrs. But there are not even one documented case of a Tiger killing a fully grown Brown Bear.

What I'm seeing is a small male tiger yearling and what looks like a young Sloth bear in the background. Sloth bears are strange animals. They're highly aggressive towards tigers and this can mean they end up in the big cat's stomach since they are usually only 120 lbs to 300 lbs. Large male Sloth bears sometimes chase female tigers away because they can put up a better fight since they're 40 to almost 50% larger than females bears. When they attack people, they tend to bite off noses.
