Jesus! do you people have to have such large ego's! we are all different and like different things, music being one one of em...if you dont like it, dont listen to it! stop being such haters! bet you couldnt go anywhere near pulling it off! This song is done with respect and love of the clash...FFS, its not a pay out!
great.....according to interviews Jakob has only 2 heroes musically in his life...The Clash and Elvis Costello....and here he is with Elvis playing the best Clash song ever
i dunno why but I can't say I like this version..I think it's the slide guitar in the mix..or the fact costello reminds me of bono a bit..or just that the original is so moving ..hats off for trying tho chaps.
KennyJB1963....Everyone can do their own tribute good or bad.I do mine every time I shower. The point is they are showing their respect to a great man and a great band...SIMPLES!!!!
this is not good - love all involved, but costello just can't do the clash - check out london calling on rock'n'roll hall of fame for further evidence. lily allen and mick jones do a far better version of this. of course, joe did it first and best.
jakob dylan really is the son of bob dylan lol the resemblance is outstanding. the hat, the face, the posture and stance, the style of singing...the son of one of my favourite musicians ever singing a classic by another one of my favourites ever. splendid.
It was the tenor of the day. Costello dissed the Clash too even though he said that "Watching the Detectives" was influenced by listening to the original Clash album over and over, and that Mick played guitar on "Big Tears." It's just what you did back then.
If Joe was still alive he'd be on an episode of EC's TV show and oh what a show that would be.
@sidekickdaz I don't see that as a diss at Elvis Costello. And just cause there was one line in a song about him, it doesn't mean that elvis doesn't appreciate the clash.
@sidekickdaz That's absolutely, 100% not a reference to Elvis Costello. "Groovy Times" was recorded less than a year after My Aim Is True was released. The songs would have been written before even then. Hardly enough time for Strummer to have felt EC let him/music/punk rock down in any way, shape or form. It's a reference to Bill Grundy.
That does make a lot more sense, when you take into consideration the "King of early evening ITV" line. I was only going by what was written in one of The Clash books.
I've been obsessed with the Wallflowers for years. They're my favorite band. And in interviews, Jakob Dylan always said how much he loved the Clash, so I checked them out and Jakob is totally the reason I got into the Clash. Thanks Jakob! (It's nice to see him covering this too.) I remember Jakob singing Brand New Cadillac once too. (I think he did so with the Wallflowers.)
Here mate i love the clash..in fact im a bit obsessed....but to call elvis costello a twat is ridiculous and jacob dylan, fellow artists and in costello a man who was part of the clash family by extension, its you who are a twat..its a good version not as goos as the original but a good tribute

Yes i know who they are and what they done and i don't care. Im still not imprest and still find this rubbish. If you are to obsesed with the clas and those twats that's your problem.
I was not impressed by the Wallflowers but I saw Jakob with his own band on Austin City Limits recently and thought it was excellent. Elvis Costello is legendary, and this is one of my favorite later Clash songs.
i am blown away!!! never saw this or knew it took place. this is awesome one of the best bands in the world, redone by one of the greatest artists of all time!
Yes, he was the lead singer for the Wallflowers and kind of kept his father out of his career. He once Said he wanted to be sure people liked his work because it was good, not because it was created by his dads son.

this is probabily my favorite song of all time.this cover version is stunning.a lot of clash fans would prob start raging but you gotta have an open mind on these things
I love the steel guitar freak out after the "mama san says" part. I was expecting it to go back into the sparse intro like on the original version and instead got a tidal wave of noise.
it was even more insane being there. from them talking about joe strummer, to the opening riffs of this song, to then starting singing it...my jaw was just dropping more and more in disbelief
Wow...that was soo boss! A great cover of my best-fave Clash song B-)

I always find it funny when Elvis Costello pays tribute to The Clash, considering they dissed him on "Groovy Times"
"THE INTAKE IS ON THE UPTAKE
THE ACCELERATION'S PRETTY GRIM
I CAN REMEMBER HIS FIRST APPEARANCE,
NOW LOOK WHAT'S HAPPENED TO HIM,
SO THEY PUT HIM IN A DOG SUIT
LIKE FROM 1964,
THE KING OF EARLY EVENING ITV,
GROOVY TIMES FOREVER MORE".
