Somehow I don't think all the entropy fly away into the universe. Almost all process we do have only 30-50% efficientcy. Everything else becomes heat and we don't bother getting them back. Now if they really escape the earth... We would be hella cold today, or hella hot if they stick around. Now if they don't escape the earth, where do they go? Who convert those entropy back?... well, it's not completely nailed down. For instance, if you have a 2d hot plate in colder surroundings and let it radiate and cool off you'll find (in normal theories) that of course the energy in the 3d space has been constant throughout whilst it has not been on the 2d plate itself. If there are actually (4+n) dimensions in our universe, we could find in some extreme situations that energy is not conserved in 4d though is in the bulk.

Zero-point energy is used by real scientists in order to explain phenomena such as the Casimir effect. There is no evidence to show that it can be exploited. A few 'thought experiments' have even suggested that, even if it were possible, it would not be an economically viable proposition. It is true that perpetual motion machines do not pollute; they cannot even exist!

Dirac first presented his concept of ZPE to a rather bored meeting in Bristol (UK) in the 1930s (not 100 years ago). It was later found to be useful for explaining certain phenomena (hence the interest at Cornell, etc.). No real scientists expect it to be a viable source of energy; only Puthoff and his pseudoscientific friends.
