I ended up buying the 13" MacBook Pro 2010 edition. Unfortunately i have gone though 4 of them. They keep having defective Motherboards. They last about 1 month to 2 months.

I am mad that over time, computers go slow the more you use it. And i use my macbook pro for video editing and internet and game playing and adobe products such as flash proffesional and their elements 8 (should be 9, but my mac died, they are getting me a new one, dont ask how it happend)
@MrSupershuttle As they get slow you need to reinstall the OS. The Hardware isn't the issue. I surprise people when i take a 5+ year old computer and make it new again without upgrading it. It is like a car you need to change the oil every so often, Reinstalling the OS is the oil change for computers.

and just to let you know, the standard ram the 13'3 comes with costs around $12 american a stick, you can upgrade ram ur self (n buy a better brand/performance) n that can range from $24-30

Perfect video for me, I have the 13" MacBook Pro, and really want to get a MacBook Air. I have the 2.5GHz, 8GB RAM version, and do like it, but like you, I feel I'll be happier with the lighter weight system - I have a Mini and iMac for home and work use, just want something more portable for on the go. The reason I said that was because you logic about how the more powerful mac needs "more ram" to execute the same tasks just because it has a higher spec processor is completly wrong. yes the slim design bares that extra wow factor, but before making the decision to trade did you ever consider that you may have just had a system with faulty parts and your performance issues could have been solved by returning it to apple or getting it fixed?

I do agree, but I wanted to keep a mac for my itunes collection. Now with the macbook air, and my external hard drive plugged into my apple basestation extreme, I find this set up perfect for me. I still would not spend 1800 for one of these, but I honestly have to say it is worth a grand
My external hard drive is hooked to my base station extreme, I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard coming too. So the only thing I would use the one usb port for is to hook up a camera or card reader once in a while. One usb is plenty for me.
I don't really think a MBA is better than a macbook pro especially the first generation, they have intel graphics what plagued my old white macbook, now I'm the owner of a 2.53Ghz 13'' macbook pro with 8GB RAM and its epic
8 gigs of ram would make any laptop good. My macbook pro was crap, there is no denying it, this air works ten times better than my pro did. The newer generations of the air run too hot for the processor, so they slow down so they won't overgeat, which means after ten minutes they run slower than these older air's.
no offense but are you sure it wasn't the hard drive in the MacBook pro, because honestly I don't see how something with a terrible intel graphics card, and a 1.6Ghz C2D, could beat something with almost dobule the cpu speed and 6 times the graphics performance
I mean I got a MacBook pro and before upgrading it to 8GB RAM, I ran a quick benchmark in ciniebench on my new MBP and my old 2.4Ghz MacBook with 4GB RAM and the old intel X3100 graphics and there was a massive difference in video rendering times it was over 3 times the speed on that test alone, it just looked to me after looking at your other videos, you had a faulty hard drive
these benchmark tests baffle me, I have used computers with high benchmark scores and have not found them any better than a regular pc. i don't care if macbook pro's score higher than air's, take it from me, the air runs a lot better, faster, and does not ask me for ram just to watch youtube videos
The great thing is, both of us got a good trade. He got something he could use in exchange for something he rarely used, and I got something that works better and is easier to carry

2nd of all, the original air's are terrible. They overheat (THE NEWER ONES DONT LOOK IT UP U HAVE NO IDEA WUT UR TALKING ABOUT) they have bad hinges that break after long use, and after a while, HD video begins to lag.

and i have been using this macbook air for up to eight hours a day and it does NOT overheat.

k u probably got the SSD then if you claim its faster. i might have been drunk when i posted that comment because i just got my are a few days ago and i love it. your MBA WIIL overheat if you got itunes, 2 web browsers, msn , and word on --> but ONLY when you are watching tv episodes/hd content, but if ur not watching any media ur right it wont overheat at all.

memory allocation has nothing to do with the hardware. its running the same operating system. so it should be the exact same in terms of memory allocation. and what were you comparing to ? the unibody macbook pro ? or the previous generation ?

Perfect video for me, I have the 13" MacBook Pro, and really want to get a MacBook Air. I have the 2.5GHz, 8GB RAM version, and do like it, but like you, I feel I'll be happier with the lighter weight system - I have a Mini and iMac for home and work use, just want something more portable for on the go. Thanks for idea, I'll give Craigslist a try.

Got the Air today and listed my MacBook Pro on Ebay ...don't think I'll miss them (maybe just the space, 320GB vs 128GB). It's weird how the Air seems quicker than the MacBook Pro, wonder if it's the SSD? Thanks for your review, it really helped me decide after seeing and hearing of an other MacBook Pro owner wanting to "downgrade" to a more portable, yet powerful, system.

Appologies for my earlier coment. The reason I said that was because you logic about how the more powerful mac needs "more ram" to execute the same tasks just because it has a higher spec processor is completly wrong. yes the slim design bares that extra wow factor, but before making the decision to trade did you ever consider that you may have just had a system with faulty parts and your performance issues could have been solved by returning it to apple or getting it fixed?

And are you telling me a quad core with Radeon graphics will run fine on 48mb of ram? no, it needs more ram just to run at all. the more powerful the graphics, the more ram you need, you can't understand that?

I think the only problem with your argument is that the Air uses the same major parts, and many slower.
The graphics is still the same NVidia integrated, the RAM is the same, the processor is much worse, and the harddrive is slower =\
It's not that the benchmarks aren't to be completely relied on, it's that the damn machine uses the same things as the Pro quite frankly.
Either way, it's good you found something you're happy with.

Facts are facts, my videos show the macbook pro was freezing up all the time, it was crap. This macbook air is ten times better. It NEVER asks for ram, the macbook pro would not run youtube without asking for ram.

I do agree, but I wanted to keep a mac for my itunes collection. Now with the macbook air, and my external hard drive plugged into my apple basestation extreme, I find this set up perfect for me. I still would not spend 1800 for one of these, but I honestly have to say it is worth a grand

My external hard drive is hooked to my base station extreme, I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard coming too. So the only thing I would use the one usb port for is to hook up a camera or card reader once in a while. One usb is plenty for me.

8 gigs of ram would make any laptop good. My macbook pro was crap, there is no denying it, this air works ten times better than my pro did. The newer generations of the air run too hot for the processor, so they slow down so they won't overgeat, which means after ten minutes they run slower than these older air's.

it is very simple, to run a cpu at 1.6 ghz with really nice graphics requires less than 2 gigs of ram, so it runs perfectly.
to run a cpu at 2.26 ghz with 6 times more graphics requires MORE than 2 gigs of ram, so it runs like crap.
the person who now has the macbook pro has upgraded the ram and it runs fine

I mean I got a MacBook pro and before upgrading it to 8GB RAM, I ran a quick benchmark in ciniebench on my new MBP and my old 2.4Ghz MacBook with 4GB RAM and the old intel X3100 graphics and there was a massive difference in video rendering times it was over 3 times the speed on that test alone, it just looked to me after looking at your other videos, you had a faulty hard drive

these benchmark tests baffle me, I have used computers with high benchmark scores and have not found them any better than a regular pc. i don't care if macbook pro's score higher than air's, take it from me, the air runs a lot better, faster, and does not ask me for ram just to watch youtube videos
