  • @JohnnyThrozzles this is one youth that isn't

  • Every time someone tells me how awesome Sonic Youth is, I come and listen to one of their songs and I realize the person who told me that is retarded.

Also, one wonders if when these people get older they're embarrassed about how stupid they were. Talking about fascism without understanding it, calling things irony that are just coincidences ... hilarious.

  • @brainiacgames they were great but only before the Goo album. This particular track is from a bad album. Regarding your point I think repeating over and over "it's the song i hate" doesn't seem to have anything to do with fascism. if anyone disagrees i am all ears

  • All this arguing about politics...we should only be praising the pure awesomeness of Lee Ronaldo here

  • YOUTH AGAINST POLITICS!!

  • I believe Anita Hill.

  • Noise, Grunge, Alternative...who cares about the label? Labels are there to divide people and to create markets...the only thing that really matters is the music, whic his great!

  • @DerekMcA there r grunge bands out of seattle and the grunge did start around the same time as sonic youth, the first time it was mentioned was by the vocalist of the mudhoney in 81, the grunge you mention, was actualy the end of it when some bands got into the mainstream, and sonic youth is very related with grunge so it is acceptable to confuse or classify them as grunge. tolerance.

  • Grunge as in Nirvana, ala the Wipers, etc.., is catchy and has structure. This song has no structure and is not catchy.

  • Freedom brought me here.

  • wow, sonic youth really does suck.

  • cool bassline

  • Some songs are so good they don't even need a chorus. This isn't one of those songs.

  • Holy shit they were actually calling H.W. Bush a Nazi back then?

That tactic has been around for a while.

  • I like to see sonic youth actually see more videos like this and 100%

  • brilliant

  • Saw Mr. Moore put on one noisy show! Out-of-Site!

  • Young italians against Berlusconi

  • @ninhalo08 Ok i don't see that video, i'm new in this page. Do you mean who fascist vote Berlusconi, in Italy? I'm fascist and i think Berlusconi is a faggot. Bye

  • no, 'cause i'm italian and i know that who's fascist don't vote berlusconi

  • @ninhalo08 Sono italiano anche io.. allora ok..

  • .......young........and old......

  • Why does everyone get so defensive if someone 'labels' it grunge? Does it REALLY matter? So long as the music's appreciated, does it matter what you call it?

  • @alexwilliamson46 you should read 1984 from George Orwell to understand the importance of correctness of language and concepts

  • @airtobs And if you had ever read Shakespeare you would know that no matter what you call a rose, it would still smell as sweet. Calling this video grunge doesn't detract from its brilliance.

  • @alexwilliamson46 you're almost right. if you call it shit and them say to someone "go and smell a shit its great" and that someone does just that he's gonna think "this guy's crazy" or "he doesnt like me". music is an art of comunication and unqualifaible. jornalism is suposed to be correct and to qualify a music's group you should do it right because you're not playing music but reporting about it. and in the end it's almost grunge but it's not interely. but then again, just one more, who is?

  • ¨MY BLOOD IS BLACK¨

  • I think Sonic Youth's got a very pop-art feel to them

  • I believe Anita Hill too

  • ANTHEM! Totally awesome track in every respect. Couldn't give a shit what genre people classify this as,to an Aussie like me it's just straight late 80's US punk rock with some talented musicians involved most notably a very hot looking female bass player. And to hell with fascism.

  • this is the shit alright!

  • i think fascism works the best it has a bad rep but it is better than communism and demcracy

  • @greenpanic6 America is fascist! It's a Fascist democracy, it is just that!

  • I think Ian MacKaye plays guitar on this song.

  • Hey, I'm in this.

  • MUSIC AGAINST FASCISM > SONIC YOUTH!!! FOREVER!!!

  • YES! WIPE OUT ALL TYRANNY!

  • fuck berlusconi

  • kill the teachers pet !!

  • Amazing, really fucking good!!!!!

  • classic Youth...

  • Great track. Great band.

  • youth should be also against communism.....great song.

  • @kondor121

lol... communism is an utopian ideology, but in practice it was performed wrong... fascism is in it's roots a chauvinistic ideology which was doomed to fail...

  • @kondor121 el comunismo nunca se llevo bien a la practica, pero si no crees que el estado bajo control obrero es la solucion, el fascista aca sos vos.

  • My ALL-TIME UBER-MEGA-ULTRA RAVE-FAVE from the "Dirty" album.

    An absolute MASTERPIECE!

    Thanx fer it, m8

  • fuck Berlusconi

  • S.A.F - students against fascism

    join on facebook

  • I did find it amusing that the line "His shit is outta luck" is replaced by the even more provocative "I'm here to shoot him up!" Nice edit there.

  • Nothing is as fucking cool as Sonic Youth

  • it's the song i hate

  • it's too bad that in this version you can't hear the original lyrics! still thanks for posting it :)

  • No doubt...a *censored* song against *fascism*

None of us has ever heard the words "shit" and "fuck." Hell, I've never seen anyone naked, even myself.

  • 2 the supposedly British neo-fascist (always wondered what that "neo" stood 4, btw... a fascist is a fascist, whatever the times...) : since checking out yer conscience doesn't seem 2 b enough, just watch Visconti's "The damned" or the recent "Der untergang" : that'll tell you all you need 2 know about ego and self-importance. F R E E D O M ? Yeah, riiiiiight... "From Nuremberg to Nuremberg" (6 hr lasting French subtitled DVD) leaves no doubt about it...

  • Among other things, you can watch bulldozers cleaning up tons of human bodies outside the gas chambers (Hey, wait a minute : are Jews human ?...). Ah, these fucking Jews : the communist regime loved them so much it created the pogroms ! "Uh, the pogr.. wut" ? The pogroms, sucker ! Go study your history ! Might prevent you to look for scapegoats for your self-hate !

  • manso guachin !!!!

  • @Ceefax100 .........Yawn..

  • i agree with you

  • he's a warpig skunk ? really really?

  • SY's definitely part of the NY no wave. "Grunge" doesn't mean shit ! AFA the censorship issue is concerned, these were the Geffen years... "Goo" & "Dirty" were a lot more commercial than their previous albums (f.i. "Daydream Nation", "Sister" and of course the ultra experimental "Bad moon Rising").

  • Wait, dont you mean Ciccone Youth? Poser.

  • I'm sure it comes as a surprise to you, kiddo, but some people actually have some things to say...

  • To be honest, I didn't like Bad Moon Rising too much. It was a little repetitious, but I agree, their older albums before they went to Geffen were far better. I also find it somewhat ironic that a song against Fascism has a music video. Probably played on Mtv.

But I still love Dirty, it's actually a pretty good album, but Sister is far better.

  • My fav remains "Sonic Youth" (5 tracks, mainly instrumental), "Confusion is Sex" is quite groundbreaking 2 (check out the reprise of The Stooges "I wanna be your dog"), "Washing Machine" is grt 2, but I find their latest 2 commercial (They don't experiment enough any more), though their gigs remain an interesting experience. Pce, man !

  • I love their first album also. It was reminiscent of some of the 60's psychedelia, but with a heavy twist. I haven't given Confusion Is Sex enough of a good listen to have an opinion on it though.

  • Some of their original inspiration will return in "Washing Machine", though I tend to find their latest releases quite easy... Let's not forget, though, that Thurston and Kim are in their early 50's (if i'm not mistaken) and that they now have a teenage kid... gotta put things into perspective. For some less conventional (and sometimes breaktrhu) material, better check out their side projects (as well as Ranaldo's) :

  • music, but also artistic collages (Moore) or cinema appearances (mostly Gordon : check out Gus Van Sant's "Last Days"). Whatsoever, if you like power, Pablo, check out SY's reprise of The Stooges' "I wanna be Your Dog". My alltime SY favorite album remains their most atypical, but also their most mature one, the very well-balanced, and inspired by a lot of various music genres eponymic "Sonic Youth"... There, a little bit of SY encyclopedia for y'all !...

  • Comment removed

  • great song for great pogo!!!!for great years.....the 90's...

  • Thank you Sonic Youth for this song!!! I love this power!!!

  • Thurston looks so weary when he says "a humping battle-plan", like they literally crushed SY's spirits to make them agree to the censorship.

  • my favorite song on Dirty.

  • If someone else says this is grunge, I will chop my ear off... not that I care really, but using that phrase to describe a band that aren't from Seattle and formed 10 years before that movement is dumb...

  • @DerekMcA grunge is a sound, not a scene

  • @empirepromotions No it's not, the main grunge bands don't have a central sound at all. Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains sound nothing alike and all have different influences. I believe the sound is ALTERNATIVE ROCK. Ugh, I don't know why I'm bothering replying to you youtube degenerates, it's very rare I actually come across anyone who knows what they're talking about on this site.

  • @DerekMcA ok well, thats interesting. you say they dont have a central sound, then in the next breath say their sound is alternative rock....hey man even thurston moore has conceded sonic youth are grunge. HE EVEN WROTE A BOOK ABOUT IT and sonic youth are in it, so best you get YOUR facts straight...as for your lame attempt to denigrate others....that is a part of the fascist mindset that sonic youth hate so much in the above song....

  • Comment removed

  • @DerekMcA

Wait so let me get this straight, RATM are not hard rock because hard rock came from Britain 30 years earlier? No you are a fucking idiot.

  • Comment removed

  • @figaz555 What are you talking about? I said Sonic Youth came BEFORE the movement, RATM didn't come BEFORE hard rock. Learn to read you illiterate cunt.

  • @DerekMcA your just a troll who gets off on pertaining to be the allknowledgable ....

  • @empirepromotions I said grunge doesn't have a central sound, not alternative rock which is quite an umbrella term with many different sounding bands being described it. Sonic Youth are such a unique band with many facets to their sound that it is somewhat insulting to throw them in a box and describe them as 'grunge'. I'm not a troll at all and I know what I'm talking about, Sonic Youth have been my favourite band for years.

  • @DerekMcA thats all well and good, but when you actually have the members of the band profess their sound is grunge, well.....i do consider sonic youth in different categories depending on which song of theirs i am listening 2, sum art punk, sum grunge

neil young is widly considered the grandfather of grunge as the kinks are to punk and ike turner is to rock and roll

anyway, i dont buy into cringe factors when i hear the word 'grunge' as every single genre of music has some good and some bad:)

  • Comment removed

  • @DerekMcA I think using that media concocted label is lame all together.

  • @smedley Word.

  • @DerekMcA sorry but the grunge movement didn't form 10 year after sonic youth, when nirvana apeared it was aparently dead. So you can call this grunge

  • @Acronso Grunge was actually dead in 1994, when Kurt Cobain commited suicide and classic rock/so-called grunge band, Pearl Jam boycotted Ticketmaster. That's when Post-Grunge took over. Plus Sonic Youth's sound may have a grungey, dirty tone, but Grunge is really just a way to describe the flourishing music scene in Seattle, Aberdeen and Olympia during the late 80's and early 90's. And Sonic Youth is definately in the realm of those bands, so I can see why you are confused.

  • @DerekMcA First, the band can change her music style. Second, some grunge bands aren't from Seattle. Third, Sonic Youth is noise rock, not grunge anyways.

  • this is so good

  • fucking censorship.

  • I will try this song with the ORIGINAL with all the SUCKS & FUNCKING. Let me do it! Please! Thanx. FUCKING CENSORSHIP! FUCK MTV!!!

  • this song is so 1990s grunge riot

  • "grunge"?

This band has been around so long they're difficult to pigeonhole. In my home filing system I've put them in the "No Wave" pile.

  • TOD ZUM FASCHISMUS!!!

  • i prefer ismael serrano

  • youth against censorship, really.

it almost ruins this amazing song...

  • ian mackaye plays guitar on this song.

  • Really? Cool!

  • i love indie/underground/alternative music. this, Nirvana + SMashing pumpkins is the best

  • only the old smashing pumpkins... the new lineup sucks

  • I prefer the old pumpkins too but billy and jimmy are still the leaders of the group and ginger is a great bassist.

  • @piggyspoon The new line-up is more talented than the old one ever was.

  • Great song! I love the basslines. The lyrics are so powerfull.

  • it's the song I hate, it's the song I hate

it's the song I hate, it's the song I hate...

actually not: great great song! to me, one of their best!

  • Awesome Sonic!!!

  • I believe Anita Hill!

  • Never heard of her. Who is she?

  • Censorship! Proof we need a free space devoid of corporate turds like Rupert Murdoch and every other muthafucka who wishes to control free unadulterated expression

  • Pure irony! A song about fascism censored! I love this song! Lee Ranaldo set it free with the guitar!

  • censored lyrics?

  • erf

    you're right :(

    "Yeah the president SUCKS

    He's a war pig FUCK

His SHIT is out of luck

    It's the song I hate..."

  • I'm hungarian antifa ! I Hate To Naczi!!! GOOD NIGHT WHITE PRIDE!!!

  • hahaha i think you miss the point of the song..

  • lepiej być nazistą niż ćpunem

  • Tacy ludzie jak Ty doprowadzają ten kraj do upadku. Polska sie za was wstydzi.
